Primordial Dimensions
Chapter 115 - Rejecting
Shane was overjoyed to see that he was already able to pick a [Platinum] quality occupation, and he was immediately curious to take a look.
However, when he did look at the catalog, he sewed his mouth shut in order to prevent himself from exclaiming loudly.
"Thousand dimension….merchant?!? What is this bullshit!!!" Seeing the [Thousand dimension Merchant (Platinum)], Shane was rendered speechless for a moment, but it was obvious that the platinum occupation in front of him was not a combat-oriented occupation.
Even if it would most likely benefit him a lot, like amplifying his memory capacity or other aspects that were important for a merchant, it wouldn't really amplify his strength or combat prowess per se.
The only thing that might work is that a platinum-quality merchant occupation might even amplify his intelligence by refining his brain, but it was still unclear.
Other than that, the [Thousand dimension] didn't tell him anything, with the sole exception that he hoped to receive certain skills that would help him trade with other races.
Maybe his shop would even receive a boost, but what was the use of it, if he wanted to have a combat occupation?
Without the one-time ticket which gave him the opportunity to choose a second occupation, it would be entirely useless for him to pick any platinum quality lifestyle occupation.
Shane would most likely even reject a [Diamond] quality merchant occupation because it simply didn't meet his expectations.
Pondering over the reason behind receiving a high-quality merchant occupation, he could only think that it was most likely because he accumulated more than 7,000 gold coins while being at the mortal stage, or maybe it was due to him accumulating a lot of gold coins in a certain period.
In the end, the requirements for all kinds of occupations were different and only the requirements of a few gold quality occupations were figured out by mankind after gathering the information of thousands of people who picked the same occupation while comparing the common traits..
If Shane wanted to, he could just search for a particular occupation that was best suited for him and fulfill the requirements in order to obtain the opportunity to choose it as his final occupation, but was that really what he wanted?
Looking at the three [Gold] quality occupations [Orcan Archer], [Ferocious Berserker], and [Wise Tamer] in front of him, he couldn't bring himself to choose any of them, even if it would boost his combat prowess almost immediately.
Clenching his fist and opening it in succession, he felt his physical strength surge through him.
'Why am I even establishing a perfect foundation, if I can't even wait for a better occupation to appear?..... Even if affinities and an amplification in my physical strength and enlargement in my mana pool size are important, is that really more important than my future goal?'
Considering that he might not even be able to obtain enough supreme tickets to purchase the second occupation ticket, Shane would have only one single chance to pick an occupation.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime choice and impatiently picking an occupation would only fill him with regret the more time passed, as the gap of strength with each rank he attained towards higher quality occupations would only widen.
Making up his mind, Shane decided to reject all occupations he could currently choose, and he told himself that he would wait as long as possible to choose an occupation, even if he would have already established a perfect foundation at that time.
There were only two scenarios where he saw himself choose an occupation too early, without using his fullest potential.
One was the possibility of him dying due to any unforeseen incident, like him being surrounded by hostile foreign races, which were much stronger and in high numbers, without him being able to find a single way out of their clutches.
After trying everything possible, he would pick an occupation to heighten his combat prowess, as his last means to survive.
Meanwhile, the second excuse he could accept was the possibility of him receiving an 'impossible' mission once he requested the [Tier-2 (Mythic)] Mana purifying technique (100%).
In his opinion, the amplification he would receive, after ascending into the Master stage with a mana purity of 100%, instead of 95% for example, had to be poles apart!
Shane was unsure how much of a difference it was, but he imagined it to be more important than his occupation-a single quality rank which was worse than what he initially wanted.
The latter excuse was still something, he was unsure of, but even after accepting a [Gold] quality occupation, it would be unlikely for him to suddenly accomplish an 'impossible' mission.
In his opinion, accomplishing an 'impossible' mission, had to be either the perfectly suited [Platinum] quality occupation or an [Diamond] occupation.
As such, he wouldn't really lose out, even if the perfect solution would be picking an [Mythic] occupation.
However, It was unlikely for him to even find a Diamond quality occupation to find in a short amount of time, and an [Mythic] occupation even less.
In the end, Shane would even be satisfied with a [Platinum] quality occupation, as long as it suited him perfectly, and if he was able to pick the second occupation ticket, even more so.
Only time would tell if he would ever find such an occupation.
Glancing at the time on his system, Shane noticed that it was already Sunday and early in the morning at that, which meant he had already spent the entire night outside the dorm, causing a deep furrow to appear in between his brows.
He sighed, thinking about the taunts and comments from his roommates about the possible meetings he might have been in, throughout the night.
Shane shook his head in frustration.
He wanted to start cultivating in order to consolidate his advancement into the 1st Apprentice stage when a sudden thought emerged in his mind.
Shane felt Umbra use the [soul conjunction] ability to figure out what was the change that it could feel within him.
Noticing this he felt a little strange because Umbra shouldn't have noticed a change when he transmitted the thought of him becoming a stronger one again.
At the same time, the evolution progress bar that was almost filled, regressed slightly, telling him that the same incident that had already occurred before, repeated itself.
Apparently, something advanced Umbra's quality once again, and Shane stood there asking himself, what the change could be. There were multiple answers because his breakthrough into the Apprentice stage had changed a few things previously, that he had completely forgotten!
Not only, did he have an Innate Skill, with the ability called [Cultivation-link], which allowed his innate skill to break through its limits by allowing him to tame stronger and more beasts than a common tamer, but he also had his mothers heirloom, that was bound to him and sealed in order to adjust itself to his strength.
Shane couldn't help but feel enlightened when he recalled the two changes he had completely forgotten, as he had only been focused on his occupation. He opened his status panel in order to take a look at the upgrade to his taming skill.
[Taming |Common-★★ (+)|
→ Beasts tamed [1/2]
→ Limit: [High-Elite]
The last time he took a look at the limits his tamed beast was allowed to reach, and the number of possible tamed beasts, was when he barely reached the 8th Mortal stage.
At that time, his limit was at the Mid-Elite stage, which didn't seem to have progressed further, but the most important factor that changed was that he was able to tame his second beast!
Seeing this, he was obviously overjoyed, but in the end, he couldn't afford to nurture a second beast right now.
Shane had still more than 1300 gold coins left, but this fortune would vanish faster than he could take a look, because he wanted to reach the peak Apprentice stage in both cultivation and body refining soon, in order to request a [Tier-1 (Mythic)] mission to receive his second perfect body refining manual.
As such, 1300 gold coins were nothing and he couldn't afford to bring a weak beast he nurtured into the wilderness, as he did it with Umbra, simply because Shane had learned a lesson from his extremely stupid and dangerous mistake.
Fortunately, they only entered relatively secure places without many elite and awakened beasts, but this would change now because he was able to fight Elite beasts head-on without any problems!
Thinking about this, the only possible solutions would be, either to not tame a second beast altogether or tame a second beast and purchase another beast sealing card with a soul connection or even an extension to his current beast sealing card, that would allow both beasts to stay within the same space.
Shane had no idea of the space required by Umbra once it would fully mature into a Horned Darkness-Snake so he could only pray to Artemis that the 50 cubic meter space would be enough for the moment.
That was at least until he was able to afford a more expensive beast sealing card or even a miniature world which he could enlarge with enough resources if required.
In the end, a taming occupation would be the best choice, but he wanted to enhance his combat strength with his occupation and not only his taming abilities.
He never heard about an occupation that combined taming and combat, and it was a difficult choice Shane would have to make in the future.
Shaking his head, Shane decided to be patient and take his time, and tackle one issue at a time.
After looking through the updates that his Taming skill had received, with the increase of his possible tamed beasts being the most interesting, Shane figured out that his mother's heirloom, the [Ancient ring of the Susurro], was most likely the reason for Umbra to have a sudden amplification in its quality once again.
Taking a look at the ring's statistics, he couldn't help but read it multiple times, before he whistled quietly, and mumbled to himself
"Not bad!"
