Liberia's tyrant Doe is dead. Has the country's political arena returned to a clear state?

Obviously not.

Liberia has not seen peaceful development since then. Different factions in this disaster-stricken land have fought for power and their own goals. The seven-year civil war has caused 150,000 deaths and 850,000 refugees, completely destroying Liberia's economy.

People's lives have become more miserable.

In 1996, Liberia's GDP fell to 132 million US dollars. Charles Taylor, who overthrew Doe, was forced to resign in 2003 after serving as president for seven years...

On October 1, 2003, the United Nations peacekeeping force took over Liberia and began to disarm the parties in the civil war.

On August 18, 2003, the Bula government and various political parties and associations jointly signed the Accra Peace Agreement and formed a national transitional government in mid-October.

Charles Gyude Bryant was elected as the Chairman of the National Transitional Government and was sworn in on October 14.

On December 27, 2017, George Weah defeated the Democratic Change Congress and Unity Party candidate, the current Vice President of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, and became the new President of Liberia.

Yes, you read it right. The current President of Liberia is a former famous football star.

George Weah started his football career in Liberia at the age of 14.

In 1987, Weah transferred to the Yaounde Perak Football Club in Cameroon.

In 1988, Weah landed in the European League and joined Monaco in Ligue 1. Later, he played for Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City and Marseille.

In 2001, Weah transferred to Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.

During his career, Weah won two Serie A titles, one Ligue 1 title, and one FA Cup title, and in 1995, he won the Ballon d'Or and the World Footballer of the Year.

In 2003, Weah announced his retirement.

In 2017, the football star became the 25th president of Liberia.

And in 2018, this year, George Weah ran into big trouble.

I don't know if humans are all forgetful.

The Liberians who once violently overthrew the "tyrant" Doe began to brew a riot because of their dissatisfaction with their current poor life.

And the leader they elected was the nephew of the former tyrant Doe, Makarila Doe.

They killed one Doe and found another Doe.

The war broke out again.

George Weah was overwhelmed and terrified.

Having lived in the civilized world of Europe for many years, he did not like the barbarism and cruelty of this country at all, especially when this barbarism might be directed at him.

So he decided to ask for help.

He originallyHe wanted to ask for help from Egypt, the "dominant power" in Africa, but Egypt was too far away.

Then he wanted to ask for help from Mali, a big country in West Africa, but Mali said, "My own country is still in civil strife, and I can't help you."

Finally, he thought of Guinea, a small country in West Africa that has developed very rapidly in the past decade.

"Liberia asked us to send troops to help suppress the rebellion in the country?"

Martin was surprised.

Then his eyes lit up.

Like Guinea in the past, Liberia is the least developed country in the world, but its mineral resources are very rich.

The local iron ore reserves are large, and there are also rich deposits of diamonds, gold, bauxite, copper, lead, manganese, zinc, nickel, barite and kyanite.

And this country is very suitable for growing rice and cassava. Before the civil war broke out, it was a rice exporter.

"Granary" + "Rich in minerals" = Must be taken.

September 12, 2018.

Guinea Conakry Air Force Base.

Delta wing, all-moving horizontal tail tilted 23 degrees, the folding outer wing section of the main wing tilted 12 degrees, the air intake with boundary layer partition plate, variable sweep wing layout... Parked on the runway is the fighter plane introduced by Guinea from the United States - F4 Phantom.

Sitting in the large bubble cockpit, Karage Ritz "lays" on the flight seat and carefully checks all the instruments.

Karaage Ritz is the pilot of this "F4 Phantom".

This former Iraqi Air Force captain is now a major in the Guinean Air Force and the commander of the 165th Fighter Squadron.

Although the difference between the Phantom fighter and the most advanced F16 is like the gap between a tractor and a Mercedes-Benz or BMW, Karage Ritz is still very satisfied with his car.

At least it is much easier to control than the Soviet-made MiG-29 fighter that I flew back then. The electronic system of the Soviet-made fighter is much more backward than that of the American fighter, and many places require manual control by the driver.

In air combat, a second of negligence often results in the destruction of the aircraft and the death of people.

Iraq during Saddam's period was the leading air force in the Middle East, with hundreds of fighters, and even independently developed and equipped special aircraft such as large airborne early warning aircraft.

However, there was a reason why Iraq did not introduce American fighters (Iraq was equipped with a large number of Soviet-made MiG-29 and Chinese-made J-7M fighters at that time). Although the American fighters at that time had the best performance, they were also the most complex in structure and the most expensive to maintain, but this was not important.

Iraq was not short of money at that time.

What is important is that the relatively harsh climate environment in the Middle East, especially the huge wind and sand, is not friendly to such sophisticated American fighters.

In 1998, the United States signed an agreement with Iraq to provide Iraq with 36 F-16 fighter jets.

In 2002, the Balad Air Force Base in Iraq finally welcomed its first F-16 fighter jet, and subsequently provided a total of34, and 2 were lost during training in the United States.

The United States provided Iraq with F-16IQ fighters, whose prototype was the US military's F-16C/DBlock52 fighter, including 30 single-seat fighters and 4 two-seat combat trainers, forming the 9th Fighter Squadron of the Iraqi Air Force.

The F-16IQ fighter inherited many features of the F-16C/DBlock52 fighter. It can be equipped with conformal fuel tanks above the wings. The two-seat model also has a protruding square back structure to accommodate new electronic equipment, and the pilot is equipped with a joint helmet display system.

But the Americans tampered with the aircraft and provided only a castrated version of the aircraft.

They cancelled the (good money) (good money) beyond visual range combat capability of this batch of fighters, making them lose the ability to launch AIM-120 active radar-guided medium-range air-to-air missiles, and the short-range air-to-air missiles delivered to the Iraqi Air Force were also the older AIM-9M, and the air combat capability was even worse than the Soviet MiG-29 fighters equipped by the Iraqi Air Force in the past.

In terms of ground attack capability, the United States mainly provided Iraq with MK82 unguided air bombs, and the number of air-to-ground missiles and laser-guided bombs was very limited.

The actions of the United States obviously did not want the Iraqi Air Force to pose a threat to Israel, which they supported.

However, the advanced American fighters were not acclimatized after entering Iraq. Because of the perennial wind and sand climate, only 7 of the 34 fighters could fly after a year, and even needed to remove spare parts from other aircraft to maintain airworthiness.

This is also the reason why Iraq later began to buy Huaxia and Polar Bear fighters.
