99 The Lock Skill

As far as Arthur knew, even the best appraisal skills had limits to them.

They could tell the stats and skills of creatures as well as items, but when it came to history or detailed information, only the information about items could be obtained.

'But for it to give some history about the Adult Black Scruff Wolf leader…' Arthur could think of several scenarios where he would be able to take advantage of it.

After all, there were many quests that forced the players to explore and learn about various NPCs or other characters.

But if one could find out more about them by just taking a look?

Things would become a lot easier.

While Arthur was thinking all this though, the Adult Black Scruff Wolf leader had decided to act.

"Oh? So you were getting them to spread out…" Arthur saw that the wolves that were in front of him were now surrounding him.

There was still some distance between them, but it was enough for the normal player to be threatened. To Arthur though, this was still not an issue, has his stats were still superior.

"Let's get started then!" Arthur said as he quickly charged forward.

He directly targeted the Adult Black Scruff Wolf leader intending to weaken him first.

The wolf leader was not one to back down and retaliated as well. The other the Adult Black Scruff Wolves also rushed towards Arthur, lagging behind by a few moments. Their speed couldn't reach his, allowing Arthur to reach the Wolf Leader before them.

'You only made it easier.' Arthur thought as he thrust the spear forward. "Lock!" he spoke.

>Weapon Skill Lock has been activated!<

And as soon as he did, the tassels that were hanging from the spear head glowed. Then in the next moment, long strings of magical energy rose from them. The strings were of the same color as the gemstones, being red, yellow and blue.

'This…' Arthur who saw it was amazed.

The strings of magical energy were made up of fine runes. These were the very same runes that Arthur had seen floating inside each of the gemstones that the tassels were made from.

The mesmerizing light from the tassels was enough to surprise the Adult Black scruff wolves as not only was it glaring, but the magical aura coming from it was also intimidating.

The Adult Black scruff wolves were forced to slow down, as they could sense hints of danger from it. Even if their leader was currently being threatened, they couldn't overpower the feeling of fear they were getting.

The strings of magical energy rising from the tassels quickly reached the Adult Black scruff wolf leader. There they tapped on its body. The tap was light, almost like that of a feather and yet the tap brought forth a profound change.

A magic circle manifested around the body of the Adult Black scruff wolf leader. The magic circle had several concentric circles within it, each having a different size.

Here, the strings attached concentric circles within the magic circle. One string attached to one circle, until all the circles were connected.

~HONG~

A humming sound was heard, as the strings moved. Some of the strings moved in a clockwise direction while some moved in the counterclockwise direction. This caused the concentric circles to rotate as well.

The entire series of events looked like the lock of a vault turning.

Arthur saw the skill work and was impressed by the effectiveness.

'The agility of the Adult Black Scurf leader is now below mine and its vitality is just 6.' Arthur saw the changes.

As far as Arthur could remember, debuff skills like these were rare outside of magic users. At the very least, those that could directly affect the stats were quite rare.

Not to mention, Lock was a skill that worked on all stats unlike the debuff skills that would only work on particular stats.

While Arthur was impressed by the Lock Skill, the Adult Black Scruff wolf leader was confused and nervous. He couldn't tell what had happened, but the feeling of sudden weakness that filled his body was alarming to it.

~GRRR~

But seeing that Arthur was so close to him, the wolf leader lunged at him.

'So that's the Wolf Lunge skill.' Arthur identified.

~CLANG~

The skill allowed the wolf to have a moment of great speed, allowing it to overcome the limits of agility. But even then, it wasn't able to overcome the Key Spear Dietrich.

Arthur merely had to hold the spear diagonally to prevent the Adult Black Scruff wolf leader from getting closer. The beast ended up slamming into the spear, making Arthur take a step back.

But despite that, he was uninjured, allowing him to act again. On the other hand, the Adult Black Scruff wolf leader had just hit the solid shaft of the spear, causing it to feel a bit dazed from the impact.

Arthur had used the momentum of the Adult Black Scruff wolf leader against him.

He twisted the Spear, allowing it to push the wolf back while also cutting across its back with the sharp spear head.

~Whimper~

The beast let out a cry of pain as damage notification popped up.

[-12% HP]

Even though it was only a surface level wound, it was still enough to deplete more than one tenth of the beast's HP.

~BARK~

But by now the other Adult Black Scruff wolves were also near. They rushed towards Arthur, forcing him to take a defensive stance.

~WHOOSH~

Arthur quickly moved Dietrich in an arc, causing the wolves that were closest to get hit by the sharp spear head.
