Vampire Nightlife

150 Unacknowledged

There was a time where magic reigned supreme and the technology that filled the city of Nyx was something that Rhea would find impossible to imagine. Rhealusvya, the Eater of Dreams, found herself in a new world that was far more advanced than her own.

"All of these… who would have thought of such things?" Rhea asked as she flew past passersby and people enjoying their time in the peaceful city.

The Dream Eater gazed up at the sky and saw it decorated with the tapestry of black ink dotted with a multitude of stars.

They seemed real, but the longer you stared at them, the more you'd realize that they were fake.

A mimicry of what an actual night sky looked like.

"I've seen better night skies on the days where I actually roamed free in paradise." Rhea muttered to herself. She didn't know why she was bothering on doing errands for someone younger than her, but something pulsed within her.

And she knew the reason why.

There was a connection between the two of them and while she felt satisfied enough to just be around by his side without any issue–the thought of being given more blood filled her with joy.

"Argh!" Rhea shouted into the air. "I'm an ethereal spirit! A being made of dreams and… certainly not blood!"

But there was a certain weight that tied her down into the world far more than she thought was possible.

It was like being trapped in that crystal gem, similarly she was chained to one man.

"And that is why I refuse to bring up what I've seen." Rhea murmured to herself crossly. "He'll have to discover them by himself. I won't offer it for free."

There were things that even a Vampire forgot, buried in their subconscious and dreams–he was bound to learn of it.

Eventually.

***

Yes, there were things that a Vampire refused to acknowledge and when they chose to block it out, to erase it from their mind and pretend that such terrible things never happened?

They made it so.

"But I miss him… I wish he'd at least come see me." the old woman tenderly said, her gaze flickered to Chaerin.

And for a moment, Chaerin was tempted to say something but bit down on her tongue.

Waiting, and maybe silently pleading.

Charlotte's eyes widened a fraction, but then she placed a hand to her forehead.

"Dear me, my head is not making me feel well. Junia, and our two lovely guests, would you please excuse me now? I'll retire to my bedroom and can't stay here any longer."

Junia looked worriedly at her grandmother and helplessly assisted the woman out of the living room.

It left Lukas and Chaerin by themselves.

Lukas took it as a chance to squeeze Chaerin's hand.

He didn't say anything, but that was enough comfort for the girl.

"... I really don't know why I came here." Chaerin admitted. "I could have forced her to give me those passes, but… maybe a part of me really did want to come here after all these years."

"When was the last time?" Lukas asked. Did your grandmother ever see you as her grandchild?

He kept that question to himself, but a tired smile appeared on Chaerin's face.

Almost as if she knew what he wanted to ask.

"She… she was actually right about my father leaving this place." Chaerin said quietly as she folded her hands. "There… there was something about it that really didn't seem right to him, and that was when he met my mother. I guess, they were just two people who didn't fit here, and so they went to Lux. Since grandmother never approved of mother, we never really visited–until the time where they both passed away. Being kids and all that, we were brought here to Nyx to stay with our relatives… but it didn't work out."

"I see…" Lukas watched the shadow on Chaerin's face, and she was very still.

"She refused us." Chaerin chuckled quietly.

Lukas' blood ran cold and he stared at her.

He hated that she had a reason to mask her pain with that sound.

Wished that he could say something, but for now, he just listened.

"She didn't want her granddaughters, she had wanted her son back and didn't want to accept things. And if she didn't want us, then there was no reason for us to stay in a place where we didn't belong–"

"What are you doing here?!"

Lukas and Chaerin looked up to see a Vampire couple step into the room.

Chaerin's aunt and uncle arrived, and they looked at her in horror.

"That's not how you greet someone at your home at all." Lukas coldly said, gaze narrowed at them.

That one look sent shivers down the spine of the two, there was something about it that directed a strange energy around them and swirled treacherously.

Chaerin grabbed Lukas' arm.

"It's okay." Chaerin said. "Don't blame them for being so surprised."

"This is…" Lukas sighed.

Was it possible to hate a person? Multiple?

Because to Lukas, all of this was only because of one individual.

Charlotte Atticus had a dear and innocent smile on her face earlier, not even aware that the person she was speaking to was her granddaughter.

No.

Lukas refused that.

A part of her saw the similarities, and even said them herself but refused to make the connection. And even though a part of him knew that it was out of heartbreak–it still didn't justify the pain that her granddaughters had to go through.

"Apologies, I… I did not expect to see you after all these years." Junia's mother looked apologetic, a hand on her chest as she looked at Chaerin.

"You look exactly like your father." Chaerin's uncle said and tried to go for a smile. "And yet you have your mother's eyes. We recognized you the instant you came here, even after so long. What made you come here all of a sudden?"

"Mother, Father…" Junia frowned at her parents, coming out of her grandmother's room.

The two adults shared a look, caught by their own daughter. Tried to remedy it.

"How are you doing my dear? Are you the only one here? Where is your sister?"
