The Sacred Ruins

837 Last Wish

The yellow-furred fox's whole body had become hairless long ago. He looked as though he had experienced the hardships of many years. His bleak eyes carried sentiment.

He had followed his almighty master for many years, yet in the end he had fallen to this world. He was not allowed to return ever, so this area became his burial grounds. He was incomparably depressed.

"Yes, he has given up this world. Originally he had put a lot of effort into refining this world into a spatial treasure on the basis of a refining method, which was written on a broken diagram taken from a forbidden area. He had used many magical items and threw in too much care and effort. Yet in the end he gave up as soon as he said it."

The reason for all of this was because of the grey-colored substance. It was as strong as the yellow-furred fox's master, the almighty from the Yang Realm. It was also terrifying.

The grey substance in this world was boundless and even the Yang Realm almighty feared it and it chilled his heart. He had refined this world for many years. It was almost finished and he was waiting for the treasure to mature.

Yet he was afraid of the grey-colored substance. The yellow-furred fox had once seen his master's hand tremble, his innermost heart disturbed. In the end he gave up painfully.

"He refined this world into a spatial treasure according to a broken diagram?" Chu Feng was quite alarmed and astounded.

"That's right. By chance he was fortunate to dig out the fragments of an old broken diagram in a forbidden area. Luckily he hadn't disturbed the beings hibernating in the area and successfully fled with the broken diagram. According to it he refined this world into a spatial treasure."

Chu Feng took in a gasp of cold air as he heard this. What great magical abilities did this Yang Realm almighty actually have? Furthermore that forbidden area must have unfathomable, inestimable depths since it actually had a broken diagram of this kind.

In the end Chu Feng became more fearful of these fallen lands. One can imagine how severe the problem was if even a powerful almighty from the Yang Realm, the master of a petrified fox, would give up this world.

In particular he thought of the green leather calabash he still had on him. It was full of the grey substance. This thing… it caused the people from the Yang Realm to feel dizzy. Was he courting disaster?

"Senior, please have a look at this." Chu feng took out the green leather calabash.

"Ah, a divine object from the beginning of time, created within the primal chaos. You are quite lucky."

One could tell how he had seen the world's horrors as the yellow-furred had such an attitude in the face of a calabash borne from the Time Immemorial Spirit Root. He wasn't alarmed and was immune to this sort of thing.

In addition this was a most valuable treasure in the universe of the Yang Realm.

"Senior, I have collected a calabash of the grey-colored substance," said Chu Feng.

"You…" The hairs on the crippled fox stood upright when he heard this. He couldn't help but fall backwards and said, "People avoid that kind of substance and fear it, yet you collect it."

He sighed gently and told Chu Feng that once infected it was something very difficult to be rid of. In the future he mustn't let the grey substance in this calabash corrode his spirit beam, or else there would be great trouble.

The yellow-furred fox looked towards this world and said, "You and I can't see it, but in reality the grey substance is pervading through this entire world. This is what I think is the most terrible thing about living here. The entire world is ill from this and it paves the way for its ruin."

According to his words the grey-colored substance probably has a great influence. He had watched his master's finger tremble that day. Perhaps he had discovered some clues.

But the yellow-furred fox said his master had disregarded him when he asked about it.

"Through this substance one could see a certain truth… then the Yang Realm almighty was astonished!"

Chu Feng was puzzled. The more he pondered over it the more he thought there was a lot more to this.

Then he thought of the purgatory, the Radiant City of Death, and the cave at the end of the Reincarnation Path again. Were these set up by humans?

In addition he recalled how the Little Daoist had mentioned that there was a first restricted area in their world, as well as in Yang Realm and in the Little Daoist's world. The area could produce a certain kind of old rune.

This rune was almost like a token, but also seemed like it contained a supreme fortune. With it one could even pass through the Reincarnation Path.

Immediately Chu Feng's scalp ached slightly. He was thinking ahead a bit. One could choose to be reincarnated and completely 'format' themselves if infected by the grey substance?

He could see an intangible hand. Reincarnation could also be man-made, not naturally formed, and the runes could be tokens, hidden within the most fearful forbidden area in the Yang Realm.

Furthermore behind the grey substance there seemed to be some sort of great terror, which had alarmed the almighty form the Yang Realm.

All of these... it was as if there were some lines, some very weak strands linking them all together with connections hard to explain clearly.

These things and energy involved the abyss of time and have done so ever since the ancient times.

It involved the Yang Realm's abandoned worlds, which covered everywhere.

Chu Feng's heart was unsettled. The more he thought deeply the more his heart shook. He had fearlessly made a reincarnation trip since he hadn't known.

This kind of behaviour was paramount to charging into a massive trap without reason. One misstep and he would've beyond redemption as his strength was too lacking.

Thankfully the trap was quite big and those behind wouldn't be paying constant attention. They would easily cut across millions of years, circulating through the ages.

"I must go to the Yang Realm!" Chu Feng felt that his own universe was too inaccessible, bleak and desolate in comparison. There was nothing there.

In fact he suddenly recalled how it wasn't even qualified to go head-on against others.

At least in the Yang Realm there were all sorts of orthodoxies, who had easily existed for hundreds upon thousands of years. There were even the Deity Sect, whom had been defeated through the ages, and the Dynasty of Evolved Beings, who had been established since ancient times.

These influences had several dormant almighties. At the very least there were goals to reach and powerful evolvers to ask for help from.

"Right, you can only go to the Yang Realm if you release yourself from everything. Otherwise your ending may be rather bitter. Infected by the grey substance, something big could happen to you in the process of coming to this world."

The yellow-furred fox advised him too.

Then, as the yellow-furred fox found out which universe Chu Feng had came from, he even sighed and said, "That's a graveyard, not a true evolutionary civilization."

Although people from the Yang Realm couldn't pass over and delve into the Yin Realm, the universe Chu Feng was situated on seemed too miserable.

"After all is said, they're all Yin spirits. With regards to their vital levels, it's even less than those of the Yang Realm creatures." The yellow-furred fox commented.

He believed that Chu Feng became a true man when he broke away from the Yin universe and emerged within the Yang Realm. Otherwise before this he wouldn't even have the most basic qualities of being a Yang Realm being.

Then Chu Feng inquired after some further matters regarding the Yang Realm. He was even thick-skinned enough to mention breathing techniques, divine methods etc. In the end the yellow-furred fox was speechless.

"I don't dare pass on my technique. If you master it you won't be safe even if you hide within the Yin Realm as my master could kill you regardless of Yin and Yang!"

"He's that powerful?"

The yellow-furred fox nodded earnestly and said, "He is far stronger than imagined. If he found out he would definitely find a way."

Chu Feng could sense that the yellow-furred fox had a cruel master. He would most certainly return any hostility and was not someone to be provoked.

In reality, if he was a liberal and broad-minded master he wouldn't have gone so far as to disable his own disciple and put him in a desolated area, never releasing him and letting him return.

With the kind of place this was, that Yang Realm almighty shocked even himself in the end and abandoned this treasure. Yet one could see how ruthless he was with his treatment towards his own disciple.

For a moment the yellow-furred fox was rather quiet. The petrified lower half of his body was becoming fainter. Even his eyes were muddy.

"The path of evolution is too dangerous. We relished in the transformations and changes in vital levels throughout the early stages, yet later on these become terrifying ordeals. This is because, like my master, you don't know what you will transform into!"

In the end the yellow-furred mentioned some of his master's matters, but didn't dare talk about them in depth.

It was as if he was afraid of his master listening even though they were separated by universes. How terrifying could he be?

"Because our ancestors have experienced it, we know what will happen on the path of normal evolution. But once we reach the end of the path, we could only rely on ourselves to discover further evolution and grow stronger. It's very hard to say what you'll transform into. You could become a supreme existence, but could also become a great terror…"

The yellow-furred fox mentioned this again. It seemed like it was related to his master.

He didn't have a lot of words, but it gave Chu Feng a chill. He was sensitive and noticed something.

Regardless of how Chu Feng inquired and consulted him, the yellow-furred fox remained quiet.

"Senior, tell me my fortune." As he saw he wasn't saying anything, Chu Feng asked him to predict his fortune. The memory of that time many years ago was still new in his mind. The yellow-furred fox had said the Little Daoist would meet a bloody encounter, and indeed he did. He said a divine battle would take place in the wastelands near the abyss and in the end it soon occurred with the old Vermillion Bird sweeping across the world.

"My fortune-telling is not accurate. I have watched you for a long time and couldn't predict the future." The yellow-furred fox said in a very direct manner.

Chu Feng was shocked. Wasn't he a god-like fortune-teller? Had he lost his powers?

"If I can predict your everything then I wouldn't mention so much to you. I think there'll be unpredictable changes, hence why I have a slight expectation of you."

The yellow-furred fox was quite honest however.

Then he asked if Chu Feng had anything peculiar on him, or had experienced anything strange.

As he heard this, he was scared to bring up the stone box and the three seeds as these items concerned too much. All along he felt that they were somewhat connected to the great situations and karmas he had suffered a headache from pondering over earlier.

He truly didn't dare leak any information out, even if the fox was almost petrified and had been honest with him being crippled. He was still not brave enough to talk too much.

"I have been to the land of reincarnation and met a clay idol." Chu Feng told him this secret after careful consideration. He was actually using it as a test.

"What, you managed to reach there?! There was a…. alay idol? Don't mention it, it's best to erase everything about him from your memories!"

The yellow-furred fox gave a big response, which was unexpected. He seemed fearful.

"The matters here are too deep. Those who are unaware are fearless and can talk about it, but those who have been involved will be.... terrified and scared!"

He spoke in this way, then clearly informed Chu Feng that even his master was afraid of this and hadn't dared speak carelessly.

"The higher their level and the more they know, the more they revere them with fear. Perhaps my master was qualified to join them."

Being high-levelled didn't ascertain whether or not they were qualified to join. Even he had once considered themselves to be a deity!

In the end the yellow-furred fox sighed. He said this was exactly how his life was. He had nothing to live for as his path was already cut. His heart was like dead ashes.

"My only grit is that I want to return to the Yang Realm. If you, my friend, have the power to do so in the future, could you come here, take my skeleton and bury it in the Yang Realm?"

This was his last wish. At the same time the yellow-furred fox told Chu Feng that he wouldn't make him do this without a reward.

"If I have that kind of ability I will of course assist you," nodded Chu Feng.

"That's great. I'll confide in you a location, which you must remember. I buried something my master and I originally took out from a certain forbidden region in a particular location in the Yang Realm. I have never told anyone about it."

In fact, he surmised that mis master could be seeking for this item.

Yet his master had crippled him and thrown him here, so it was impossible for him not to have some resentment. As such he hadn't reported it to his master.

Chu Feng took a note of the location's coordinates.

He then sighed again and said, "I have a last wish too. I promised Yaoyao that I would pluck a divine medicine for her, but now I am not certain of it. Could you help me?"

The yellow-furred fox glanced at him, his eyes turbid and indistinct. Finally he sighed and said, "I have found you have a very good attribute and are quite suitable for progressing in the Yang Realm."

Chu Feng was shocked. He was quite interested and asked which attribute this was.

"So thick-skinned!" The yellow-furred fox commented. He had only just met him and they were only slightly familiar with each other but he had already asked him for help shamelessly. In addition he was very as ease.

From his point of view this was an innate talent.

Chu Feng's face immediately darkened. Was he praising him?

"The Yang Realm is terrifying and there's all kinds of cruel matters. If you want to survive and live well, being brazen is one of the most basic and simple characteristics needed. Back then I wasn't so harsh and cruel, and I have previously reflected upon myself for a long time."

Chu Feng was speechless. He didn't care about this, so he asked again, "Senior, you can help me. I really do just have one last wish."

"This is your talent. No matter what I say about you and how I mock you in your face, you don't seem to care. You are just too thick-skinned."
