Lu Li lived in Darnassus, so he didn't go to Stormwind City often. However, his reputation in the Alliance was relatively high, so the guard holding a long weapon answered his questions politely.
Sir Flintley was a relatively average gentleman in Stormwind City, one who you wouldn't be able to pick out if he was in a crowd.
In smaller groups he was often brought up because of his beautiful and polite daughter. The Duke of Fulham had once proposed to her, but Sir Flintley had already promised her to someone else.
However, the real reason everyone know about them was because of their tragedy.
The guard looked frightened as he described how he was in charge of patrolling the city. He had followed the Chief and was met with the horrible fate of Sir Flintley. Even his famous daughter was also dead.
"Who killed them?" Lu Li's brow furrowed.
This quest was so difficult; they had to solve so many mysteries. If they didn't carefully analyze every clue, they likely would have been stopped halfway.
"The murderer still hasn't been caught, but what a pity it was for his beautiful daughter," the guard said with a look of regret.
"Are there no clues, or any suspects?" Lu Li asked.
"There is one suspect, but his whereabouts are unknown. The Brotherhood is very strong right now and no one has time to deal with that. It happened quite a few years ago. I advise you not to waste your time, but I need to get back to my patrols," the guard replied dismissively.
"Yes, that person is Stalvan right, their tutor?" Lu Li pressed on.
"Oh, how do you know?" the guard asked as he looked at Lu Li with surprise.
"If you help me, these are yours," Lu Li said as he took out a handful of at least twenty to thirty gold coins.
The guard hesitated for a few seconds before coming to a decision.
"Alright, but you have to wait a bit."
Lu Li and Sesame Rice Ball waited for more than ten minutes before the guard came back.
"I don't know if this is important, but it was very risky for me to get it…"
"If I tell the council about this, you'll probably get executed. You know, greed is an unforgivable crime," Lu Li said rudely.
This kind of greed was prevalent among guards everywhere. Stormwind City had long since been corrupted by the aristocrats who lived there. If you gave them an inch, they would take a mile.
"Yeah, yeah, that's it," the guard said dryly. "I was just trying to remind you that you needed to keep it a secret. Come on now, give me what I deserve."
Lu Li took the document and handed the gold coins over the guard.
The record was old and out of order; it even had a serious musty smell. Lu Li opened it and found a tattered letter within it.
This is my second month living at Flintley's house and there are some things I can't help but write down.
There is a boy named Tyler who is terrible and will prove to be a challenge, but his older sister Tilloa is a very intelligent child. Her beauty is also particularly eye-catching.
I get along well with Tilloa and I found that I liked her. She always looked at me silently with understanding and as time went on, we could read each other's eyes.
I think I really have fallen in love. She admired my knowledge and I didn't think I was much older than her.
As I tutor Tyler, Tilloa would be out taking care of her garden outside and listening to me talk about the local customs of Azeroth. Once, she came in and placed a bright red begonia in my palm before smiling at me. I felt my heart beat violently…
The letter had already rotted and had been eaten away by bugs in some places, so Lu Li had to guess some parts of it.
However, he had already discovered the most important clue. They needed to go to the Summer Villa near the Eastvale Logging Camp in Elwynn Forest!
"Do we need to go there?" Sesame Rice Ball asked as his face went a bit pale.
"Congratulations, you got it right, but too bad there's no prize," Lu Li sighed then continued, "Just treat it as a fun adventure. I'm curious to see if Stalvan killed his own employer and why he did it."
The Eastvale Logging Camp was also a famous horse farm that bred a large number of military-grade horses. This was the first time Lu Li had been here, but he had come into contact with the horses from this place before. The NPCs here hired players to feed their horses for some EXP and a gold coin.
Such an easy task to yield a gold coin was a great joy for those who were financial struggling.
"Young lads, you should be out fighting for your future and not dealing with horse dung," Marshal Haggard said slyly with a smile.
"Hrm, I do know about Flintley. There was a ranch fire one night and I sent someone to rebuild the ranch. But, you should know that no one has been there for a number of years and that means the wood would have been eroded by years of rain…" Haggard continued on.
"Oh my heavens," Lu Li's sighed as his legs went soft and he fell in front of the old man.
This was the property of Stormwind City – how did this uncle get the position of Marshall?
Haggard avoided eye contact with Lu Li and mumbled, "Flintley didn't have any heirs, so accoriding to the rules, the nearest power is allowed to take all his resources. This means it was all for the Alliance!"
Lu Li's blood was boiling as he weakly asked, "Did you pay attention to this Stalvan person while you were cleaning up the villa?"
"Not very clearly; the place has been looted more than once," Haggard said, then suddenly seemed to think of something before recalling, "I remember now; I had picked up a box of things which was filled with books and things. Most people around here are illiterate, so they have no interest in that…"
"Take us there to have a look," Lu Li interrupted him, hoping that this was the clue to the next step.
Haggard took the two men into the cellar and rummaged through a pile of dusty debris to find what was supposed to be the last of Flintley's family belongings.
After searching for a long time, Lu Li discovered a piece of paper held by a book.
It was in Stalvan's handwriting, but the anger in his words could be seen through how disorderly they were.
