The Great Thief
Chapter 1832 - Extreme Happiness to Extreme Sorrow
Lu Li, who had changed to human form, immediately became famous in all the Cenarion Circle.
“He said Remulos!”
“Is it the Remulos I know?”
“It must be him, no one would dare blaspheme the holiness of the true name!”
“Respected excellency, the Keeper of the Grove, has sent someone here. We…looks like there’s a hope of coming back, although I already planned to die in battle or from old age. If I could live to again kiss the land of Azeroth with my own lips…”
Things went further than what Lu Li expected. He never thought that the name of Remulos was so powerful. All Lu Li knew was that the Cenarion Expedition was an exploration team sent by the Cenarion Circle to the Outland to research lifeforms. At the very beginning, it was a small group of soldiers under the Cenarion Circle. After The Dark Portal was opened, the team rapidly increased in size and even reached autonomy. But now, The Dark Portal couldn’t be used properly, so this was a hopeless place that didn’t have a tomorrow.
“His excellency Remulos, along with the others haven’t forgotten us here. There’ll be more and more people going through The Dark Portal. We can defeat our enemies, we can traverse through all the roads to the Outland. You can also see Shattrath, we can open a portal there to join with Azeroth…” From his memory, Lu Li described the near future to this isolated fighting group of heroes in this foreign land.
Unexpectedly, no one really believed Lu Li.
However, everyone longed to follow such a beautiful plan to work. Everyone crowded around Lu Li enthusiastically. After speaking and speaking, Lu Li realised a way for the quest to appear.
If it was Hachi Chan, the NPC would probably have actively issued a quest since his charisma was quite high. There was no way that the system could treat everyone in the same way when It came to charisma and issuing quests.
“Fred has already been missing for three days. How many have we lost? Who else has gone missing?” an NPC said sorrowfully.
“The 13th one, but Fred won’t die so easily. My friends, don’t forget that he was our most distinguished Shadow Hider out of us,” another opposed.
“We have to go find him, maybe Fred hasn’t died!”
“That…” Lu LI raised his hand, interrupting their discussion, “I think I’m willing to help. I’m a Thief, so I can look for your Freddy. If he’s still alive, I can definitely find him.”
“Are you sure you want to go find Fred?” a green-haired Elf asked.
“Yes, I really respect you all, I’m willing to contribute some of my own power. As long as Fred is not dead, I’ll definitely find him,” Lu Li said, justly and sternly.
“But this is really dangerous, and you…” the Elf didn’t seem to trust Lu Li. Given the many years that Elves lived, Lu Li was still a baby.
“I also have lots of friends, and we’re not afraid of anything.” Lu Li was a bit desperate.
They looked like they were thinking about him. But actually, they didn’t want to issue the quest to him.
The few NPCs discussed quietly for hours, until finally, someone called Lethyn Moonfire, an old druid, issued the quest to Lu Li. What was more? He issued two at once. One was to find Fred, the other was called ‘The Dying Balance’. The description for the quest read –
Have you observed your surroundings closely, friend? This is an ailing landscape, struggling to keep itself in balance and losing the fight. If you know where to look, you can see the symptoms. Members of some species rapidly outgrow their peers and become more aggressive.
A good example of this uncontrolled growth is the Marshtrekker Boglash. If you wish to see it for yourself, look no further than the waterways south of the refuge. Be prepared to defend yourself. The creature knows no mercy.
Fred was lost because of that Marshtrekker Boglash. If Lu Li finished the quest, then these researchers wouldn’t have to brave the danger to look for clues for the quest.
Right before Lu Li left, they gave him a few bottles of natural resistance potions. There wasn’t really anything else apart from this.
Actually, Lu Li had a plan too. He knew this NPC Fred. He did Fred’s quest in his last life. He was in a dry well in a marsh. There were Marshtrekker Boglashes all around blocking him so that he didn’t dare come out.
Others might’ve had to spend a lot of effort to find him, but for Lu Li, these two quests were a piece of cake.
But he purposely didn’t say it out loud. After all, the reward for the quests in Dawn were closely interlinked. If he just made a quest look super easy, there certainly wouldn’t be too big a reward.
Now, Lu Li had to make a grand exit, dropping the act about being so sure of helping you find Fred. Only this way, after he finished the quest, would there be a massive XP reward – these poor Cenarion Expeditioners simply couldn’t give out rewards, but they dished out XP generously.
Lu Li chose such quests to level up quickly.
The marsh was extremely dangerous. Not only were there monsters hiding around in the mud, if players fell into a muddy ditch, there was no hope for them. They couldn’t even retrieve their corpse, since you couldn’t find your own corpse.
What was more, at the very beginning, your HP would decrease very slowly when you fell in the mud. Players might be stuck in the mud for a long time before they could die.
Quite a few people were very against this idea, thinking that the content wasn’t good for the players’ physical and mental health. Among them were psychology experts that had society’s best interests at heart. They maneuvered around the gaming company and got some updated changes. As long as players fell in as deep as their shoulders, and they hadn’t gotten outside help, the system would judge that they had already died.
Lu Li wasn’t worried about this since he could fly.
Being able to fly, he really could do whatever he wanted.
A cute flying dance occurred in the colourful sky above the marsh. Phosphorescent air bubbles made this as beautiful as a fantasy land. Lots of players liked this place, because it was good for selfies – tourist companies were like this. They didn’t need you to be so pretty or beautiful, as long as you could take good pictures for girls, it was fine.
A saying goes, that when you’re on cloud nine, that’s when you fall.
Lu Li soon fulfilled this principle.
A flash of light flashed out and hit him. Shame that his crow had no defence and he fell right there. Good thing by this point he had lots of HP, so he didn’t die straight away. He still had a layer of defence on him.
Marshtrekker Boglash!
It was a type of spore that didn’t really look like a lifeform. It had a big head but no body. Under its head, there were things that looked like long legs or feelers. The whole organism looked like it was suspended in the marsh.
