Taking a look at Jin Shengping who was still on the ground, Jin Xianglan took a deep breath. Then, she reached out and pressed the alarm on the watch.

Soon, sirens were set off in the research center. Security guards arrived at the scene at once.

As soon as they entered the lab, they saw Jin Xianglan squatted on the ground, with her hair messy, performing external chest compression on Jin Shengping.

“What is going on? What happened to Academician Jin?” The researchers asked in a haste as they rushed over.

While continuing with the external chest compression, Jin Xianglan briefed them, “My father has had a heart attack. Get Dr. John here. Quickly… And, C0001A and my brother are missing. Hurry up and find them!”

Just as Jin Xianglan finished those words, the security guards were notified that the surveillance system was acting up. Then, a few security guards received the order. They left the lab and the search effort commenced at once.

A white male reminded Jin Xianglan, “Dr. John is on a business trip today. I think.”

That took Jin Xianglan by surprise. Breathing heavily, she said, “Send out a notification to ready the helicopters. We need to send my father to the hospital now!”

“Okay. I will call them right away!” The white man replied.

With the help of security guards, Jin Xianglan carried Jin Shengping to the testbed. She rolled him out from the lab. In the long corridor, she heard the sounds made by the wheels and their footsteps.

Since this was an urgent matter, they had to use the emergency exit. It was a shortcut but requires a higher level of security clearance.

To pass the first door, Jin Xianglan scanned her eyes to get through the eye-authentication process. The door was open. After over a dozen meters, there came another door. Again, there was an eye-authentication process. Passing that door, she took a left turn at the elevator.

Jin Xianglan’s facial expression suggested that she was flustered but from her eyes, there was imperceptible vigilance. Coming up next would be a full-body scan in the elevator. In other words, if any part of her body did not match the image in the database, not only would the alarm go off in the elevator, it would turn into a prison on site.

Jin Xianglan looked at her wristwatch. She was mentally disturbed. The elevator door was opened slowly. Jin Xianglan tightened her grasp on the trolley and then rolled Jin Shenping into the elevator.

The alarm did not go off. The real Jin Xianglan must have turned off the alarm system of the full-body scanner at the predetermined time.

The elevator went up and up and up. Lu Jia’er, who was disguised as Jin Xianglan, was still nervous and anxious. Jin Xianglan told her that after they went into the elevator, she would only have forty seconds. If they did not leave the elevator after forty seconds, then the escape plan would have failed.

Forty seconds! Two-thirds of a minute! A suffocatingly small amount of time!

Lu Jia’er did not know how many seconds had passed before she stepped into the elevator. Her heart was stuck in her throat.

Ever since she came into the elevator, she had been counting the seconds in her heart. One, two, three… twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three. Finally, the elevator arrived.

Lu Jia’er, who looked like Jin Xianglan, felt as though her heartbeat could not go any faster. Twenty-four seconds. Twenty-five seconds. The door was opening slowly. Twenty-six seconds. Twenty-seven seconds…

Lu Jia’er’s hand on the stainless steel railing of the trolley began to sweat. When she counted to twenty-eight seconds, she exerted strength and pushed the trolley out.

Finally, she was out of the elevator. That was the most difficult step! Sweat was creeping out from her forehead as well.

Then, the hurried footsteps and the wheels were making noises again.

She went along the walkway and arrived at the final stage of screening. It was fingerprint recognition.

Lu Jia’er put her finger on it. She thought she would go past this just as smoothly as before. However, as soon as her hand touched the instrument, the alarm went off.
