The Blue Eyes

Hearing Selena's words that she would kill him, Joseph laughed loudly. His laughter even echoed throughout the laboratory.

"You want to kill me?" He asked condescendingly. "How can you kill me? You're alone here. Your dear son is not here with you. Ah, maybe my monster has killed him by now."

Selena's face grew tenser at what her husband said. "What are you planning?" Asked the lady anxiously.

Joseph did not immediately answer and instead walked towards one of the big monitors in the laboratory. His hand moved to press the transparent screen several times, and then a prototype of a werewolf monster with red fur appeared on the screen.

"This is the monster I created," Joseph began to explain. "It was specially created by me to fight the power generated by the formula I created seventeen years ago. I didn't want this to happen, but I anticipated that the formula would not end up in my hands. So, for the past seventeen years, I have been trying to come up with a formula that can counter that power, and my experiment finally succeeded not long ago. I finally managed to create a power stronger than yours, Selena."

Selena's jaw tightened at her husband's explanation. How sneaky. That old man sure had many plans to rule the world!

But, before long, Selena's expression changed, and she gave Joseph a disparaging smile. "What kind of power did you create for your new monster that you thought would be able to defeat Kevin's power?" The female professor asked.

Joseph smirked briefly and answered. "The formula I invented seventeen years ago causes the DNA to mutate so that the body can produce large-scale electrical energy which in turn develops into lightning. That's why the werewolf created by that formula will have white fur because lightning is generally white and that type of lightning is the most dangerous. Its eyes are blue because when lightning strikes an object, the object would burn by blue fire; the hottest flame. In essence, the formula has the elements of lightning that could create fire."

Selena just smiled calmly listening to her husband's explanation, which she would have known beforehand. She had witnessed how Joseph created the formula, so she knew very well how it worked.

"That's why I ended up creating a new power to match that power. The new monster's body I just created was made of a lightning rod system that's able to protect the monster from lightning strikes. The lightning will automatically flow to the ground where it steps through its body. So, as long as my monster steps on the ground, the lightning generated by your son's power won't be able to burn it."

Selena carefully listened to Joseph's explanation without intending to interrupt. Her face looked relaxed without the slightest sense of tension even though she just got new information about what kind of power the werewolf monster her husband had just created.

"You won, Jos," the woman finally complimented her husband. "You are indeed the most genius professor with all your creations, but I want to know one thing. Who is the human who received that power and is now attacking Kevin?"

Joseph smiled broadly at the praise given by his wife. "He's Mario Doxon. He volunteered to be the object of my experiment," he replied proudly.

Selena looked a little surprised after hearing Joseph's answer, and she glanced slightly at Mike, who had been silent after learning the true story of the Allaband family tragedy.

"Mario Doxon," Selena spoke again. "Isn't he your loyal accomplice since decades ago? It turns out that until now, he's still loyal to you?"

"Of course. I treated him well for decades, so he has always followed my orders until this moment."

Selena nodded slightly with a faint smile after hearing Joseph's answer. She then leaned forward slightly and whispered, "Including your order to kill Adley Allaband?"

Selena whispered as if she didn't want Mike to hear her question, but in truth, it was just a form of provocation against Mike. Of course, she knew that Mike could hear her voice because the werewolf had a sharp sense of hearing.

And sure enough. Mike reacted immediately upon hearing Selena's question.

"What do you mean by killing Adley? Didn't Adley die because she was killed by human soldiers?"

Now it was Selena's turn to smile triumphantly. "You can ask Joseph about that, Mike. But, if Joseph doesn't want to tell you again, then I will," the lady said casually.

Mike turned to Joseph, but Joseph looked away, seemingly having no intention of telling the story. That's what made Mike turn to Selena again and give her non-verbal cues to tell the story.

Selena smiled briefly, then began her story, "Seventeen years ago, the human army suddenly discovered the secret werewolf base and launched a massive attack on the base. Apart from that, the soldiers suddenly surrounded the laboratory where we were working at the mega project BLUE10122021. Who do you think leaked our locations to humans?"

Mike seemed to think for a moment, but then he replied, "Kris leaked it all. Mario reported that Kris had betrayed us by leaking the secret about our locations."

"Ah," Selena pretended to be shocked at Mike's answer. "Unfortunately, that's not true. What do you think a 10-year-old boy could do? Do you think he dared to report to the human soldiers, who were then armed with lethal weapons? That's not Kris, Mike. Adley did it."

Mike was again surprised to hear the truth that had just been revealed by Selena.

"And you know why Adley was so desperate to report it? It's because she's fed up with your plots! I admire her because she was much braver than me and could do all that. But of course, Joseph hated people like that. Of course, Joseph was eager to kill Adley. He had long asked Mario to finish off Adley if there was a chance, and it turned out that the opportunity came when human soldiers ambushed the werewolf base. Mario disguised himself as a human soldier and killed Adley mercilessly. Those are the facts."

Again Mike was shocked to death. This time, he even had difficulty breathing.

"My story isn't finished, Mike," Selena continued. "And why do you think Joseph and Mario insist on accusing Kris of being a traitor for what happened seventeen years ago? That's because Joseph deliberately wanted to set you and your only son against each other. Joseph wanted to see you kill Kris with your own hands."

Mike finally looked at Joseph with tears in his eyes after he figured it all out. "Why are you doing all this, Professor? Haven't I been loyal to you for decades?" Mike asked weakly.

Joseph met Mike's gaze. Not a look full of regret or anything like that, but a gaze full of hatred. "I did it because the Allaband family dumped me!" Said the old man with mounting anger.

This time, Selena chose to remain silent because she knew exactly what Joseph was going to say next.

"Your parents adopted me when I was a baby because they didn't have children even though they had been married for a long time. They loved me at that time, but after four years I was adopted by them, your older brother was born and made the Allaband family very happy. From then on, your parents ignored me and didn't care for me anymore. Until two years later when I was only 6 years old, they returned me to the orphanage where they adopted me. You think my heart didn't hurt because of that?"

Joseph said all this with mixed emotions. His wrinkled face even turned red because too much emotion had accumulated on his aged face. Sad, disappointed, angry, hate, all gathered together to produce such a pitiful expression.

Mike was speechless after hearing Joseph's story. He didn't remember anything about his past, but it seemed that Joseph had his trauma in his childhood so he did it all. Still, all that Joseph had done could not be justified. It had destroyed the lives of many people for decades.

The atmosphere in the laboratory was suddenly silent because three elderly people in the room chose to remain silent after Joseph expressed emotions that he may have endured for decades.

Only Selena knew about the matter. Only Selena knew that Joseph Beischel was once Joseph Allaband, and Selena knew very well that Joseph was in great pain for so many years.

"Talking about the past will never end," Selena finally broke the silence. "Jos, your secrets have been revealed. Don't you want to end your crimes and get back on the right path?"

Instead of choosing to consider his wife's words, Joseph immediately laughed sarcastically at her. "Back on the right path, you say?" He asked in a mocking tone. "Why do I have to do it when there is only an inch left before I can rule the world? The monster I created will kill your son, then it will destroy the world!"

Selena's expression looks sad at Joseph's words. She did not understand why Joseph wanted so badly to see his son die. Joseph had completely changed. She felt that she no longer recognized the man who had been with her for decades. The old man seemed to have lost his mind. All of his obsessions had driven him crazy.

"Mario won't be able to beat Kevin, Jos. Kevin's power is different from what you know." Selena once again speaking. "And about Kris, you took the wrong step because you didn't kill him a long time ago. Kris will be the main character."
