The Blue Eyes

Chapter 244 - KILLED HIS BROTHERS?

Six people were sitting in the living room of the orphanage this afternoon. Luke was ready with his tablet PC, but it wasn't a regular tablet PC as there were transparent screen extensions above the tablet after Luke used his finger to swipe the tablet's screen.

"Hey, Kevin," Luke called out to his colleague's name, and the colleague turned his head to him. "You asked me to retrieve the deleted footage, right?" He added, and the scientist nodded his head.

"Yeah," Kevin replied verbally. "It's possible if the culprit deleted the footage to remove all proof, right?"

Kevin knew that it was not an action movie where something like that was so easy for the criminals, but he believed that the kind of method was feasible.

However, Luke's expression remained flat after Kevin questioned him. "That's possible, but there is no deleted footage at all. I managed to hack all footage without needing to retrieve any data."

Luke's statement was unexpected for Kevin. The latter believed that there must be deleted footage because Steve said that there was no suspicious figure on the footage.

Kris believed in Steve's report, but Kevin suspected that there was something wrong with the report.

Now when Luke confirmed that there was no deleted footage, Kevin was confused about what he should do to prove his suspicion.

"And I've watched the footage before coming here, but I didn't find anything suspicious at all," Luke spoke again, and Kevin's face turned even darker.

Luke managed to get the surveillance camera footage, and he had watched the footage before they met today. But, if Luke didn't even find any clues, then what should they do to capture the real culprit?

"I think we should watch the footage ourselves to make sure, Kev," Kris's voice could be heard, and Kevin turned to his lover. "Can you play the footage during the period of the incident, Luke?" Kris added as he turned to Luke again.

He had ordered Luke to only hack the footage during the period of the incident, and Luke just did as instructed.

Without uttering any words, Luke started playing the video on the transparent screen. There were 24 videos on the screen, and the six people looked closely at each video with their sharp eyes.

Each video played every scene in every corner of the apartment building. There were also footages from the emergency exist because a place like that probably was used by the criminals to execute the plan.

All eyes were on the screen, and they could see some people were recorded by the cameras. They even saw how Steve arrived at the building and headed to their unit that night. Perhaps it was the period when Steve just arrived at the building after he was done with a task from Kris.

"See? There's nothing wrong with the footage, right?" Luke spoke again as he looked at Kevin and Kris.

The two men didn't immediately reply as their gazes were still on the screen. There were no suspicious figures at all, but they were still hesitant to tear their away gazes from the transparent screen.

"I think we should stop doubting Steve," Kris replied as he finally shifted his gaze away from the screen. He stared at Kevin, but his fiance still fixated his gaze on the screen. "Steve was telling the truth that the criminals managed to dodge the surveillance cameras. Even if we looked at the footage, we still didn't find anything, right?"

Kris didn't mean to feel proud of Steve because the latter was telling the truth to him, but he indeed feel relieved because his trusted subordinate didn't lie to him.

He couldn't imagine if Steve indeed betrayed him. Being betrayed by someone he trusted must be very hurtful for him, but he was glad that there was no proof about Steve's relation to the incident.

"What time was it when Steve call you to inform you about the incident, Kris?" Instead of responding to his fiance's question, Kevin questioned his fiance back without tearing his gaze away from the transparent screen.

Kris frowned upon hearing his fiance's question, but he still fished out his phone from his pants pocket and looked for the call logs. His finger only stopped moving when he found the one he was looking for.

"Steve called me at 11.52 PM, Kev," he answered his fiance's question before looking up from his phone screen.

Kevin didn't react upon hearing Kris's answer, and he just tore his gaze to Luke instead. That strange attitude confused Kris.

"Focus on camera 3 when Steve just arrived at the front of the building, Luke," Kevin sternly ordered the IT expert.

The five people were puzzled by Kevin's order, but Luke still used his hand to tap the footage of camera 3, causing the video to get bigger and fill up the whole screen. He then rewound the video until it arrived at the moment when Steve just arrived in front of the building.

"Pause the video, Luke!" Kevin instructed again, and the owner of the name complied with the order.

The video paused, and Kevin squinted his blue eyes at the left bottom corner of the video where the information of date and time were showing there.

"Luke arrived at the building at 10.16 PM, but he only called you at 11.52 PM, Kris? Why was he doing in the building in that period? He told you that when he arrived at our unit, the other guards already died, right? He would only need 6 minutes to walk to our unit from the front of the building, so he should have arrived at our unit at 10.22 PM, right?"

Kevin just voiced out something that bothered his mind ever since he found Steve's figure in the footage, and other people in the living room fell quiet upon hearing his questions.

Kris frowned at his fiance as he asked, "You want to say that Steve is the one who killed his brothers?"
