The Blue Eyes

Chapter 161 - THE EXAMINATION

The government was so enthusiastic to see the result of the antidote created by Selena Beischel. They had seen the effectiveness of the antidote on ordinary werewolves, but they had not seen the antidote work on the stronger werewolves.

In addition, they were also so eager to officially announce to the world that there was no werewolf anymore. In short, they were only so impatient to get praised by the public.

That was why the representative of the government couldn't stop smiling as they gathered in one of the Orka's laboratories. There was the head of Orka, the head of the Military, and also a representative of the Intelligence Agency.

But, the representative of the Intelligence Agency was not smiling, though. Her expression looked tense when she waited for the examination process.

Kevin, Kris, Blue, and Jack were also at the laboratory. The last three names had changed into a gown, and they were ready for the examination today.

Yes, only three people would go through examination today because the government had decided to stop doubting Kevin even though his blue eyes remained. The antidote had been taken from his body, so they decided to take it as proof that Kevin was a normal human again now.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience, Kevin," the head of Orka, Callum Conor, started with the pleasantries. "We trust you and your ability, but we have to write a scientific report about this matter. We have no other choice than to do this examination."

Kevin just smiled professionally at his boss. "I understand, Sir. I also want to make sure that the antidote had successfully worked on them. We can't tolerate any mistake, right?" He asked the boss.

The boss just laughed as he nodded.

"You are so sensible, Kevin," the head of the Military, Benny Craig, suddenly chimed in. "You become a hero at a young age, but you are so humble like this. I don't understand why the head of the Intelligence Agency slandered you at our last meeting."

Kevin's smile vanished as he peeked at the lady who was standing not so far from them. The lady surely could hear their conversation.

"Mrs. Hasler just wanted to do things based on procedure, Sir. She didn't mean anything bad," Kevin replied as he turned to Benny Craig again.

"She is just too arrogant because of his father's power," Benny Craig replied sternly as he glanced at the silent lady. "She insisted on examining the werewolves today, but she didn't even come and only sent a representative. That's pretty rude."

Kevin just smiled sheepishly and didn't say anything. Benny Craig was right, after all. Grace Hasler didn't come to the laboratory today despite her strong wish to do a comprehensive examination on the werewolves' bodies after the antidote injection. She only sent Julia Concord as a representative.

"No need to talk about someone behind her back," Callum Conor suddenly butted in. "We better start the examination now. The government wants to announce to the public as soon as possible, right? We shouldn't delay the process."

Yes, that was the main purpose of the activity today. The government wanted the world to acknowledge their ability in handling werewolves. They wanted to show that they had found the long-sought antidote that could return werewolves to normal humans. The government just wanted to brag.

But, as ordinary citizens, Kevin and the rest could only obey them. That was why they agreed to do the examination today.

Callum Conor called out a young scientist, and the scientist immediately approached him. He instructed the scientist, and the scientist nodded in understanding.

The young scientist then walked over to Blue and led her to a vertical cylinder glass. The glass size was big enough for a human to enter.

The young scientist guided Blue to enter the transparent glass, and he closed the glass tightly after Blue was already inside.

There was a monitor with a keyboard beside the glass, and the scientist was pressing some keys before a blue light started to appear in the big glass. The blue light moved up from Blue feet slowly. It continued to move past the legs, the waist, the chest, and up to the head. Once it passed the head, the light stopped moving.

The young scientist seemed to be typing on the keyboard, and the monitor showed a word "EXAMINING" that flashed in green color.

The process was not done, and the spectators waited for the result with a nervous expression. Even Kevin looked nervous as he squeezed his fingers randomly.

A few minutes passed, and the monitor finally showed the result.

[100% HUMAN. NO DEVIATION WAS FOUND ON THE DNA.]

The writings were big enough to be seen by everyone, and they finally could breathe a sigh of relief.

But Kevin was the one who looked the most relieved after seeing the results. He even closed his eyes for a moment while heaving a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, a wide smile spread on the two old men's faces.

"Very good!" Callum Conor exclaimed joyfully. "Professor Selena Beischel is truly a genius!"

The other people just nodded in agreement as they saw a young scientist helped Blue to come out of the giant glass.

Blue then walked over to Kevin and Kris. She received a pat on her back from the former.

"Let's continue with Mr. Allaband," Callum spoke again as he stared at Kris.

Kris didn't have any objections as he nodded curtly. He then let the young scientist lead him to the examination glass. He turned over to Kevin for a moment and found the latter smiled fondly at him. He returned the smile before entering the big glass.

The procedure was not different from the previous procedure. A blue light started scanning Kris's body from toe to the head. The light then stopped, and they waited for the result.

Not long after, the monitor showed the same writings.

[100% HUMAN. NO DEVIATION WAS FOUND ON THE DNA.]

The spectators smiled broadly when they saw the result.

"Very good. It seems that the antidote is very effective," Callum Conor praised the antidote again. "Then, do we need to do the next examination on Mr. Madris as well? It seems that the result will be the same."

Kris already came back to Kevin's side, but he didn't say anything.

"Of course, we still have to do the next examination," Benny Craig replied. "It's not like we don't believe in Kevin, but we have to do this for the sake of the procedure."

Kevin just smiled calmly when he observed how the two men conversed. He didn't have any intention to interrupt.

"Alright then," Callum Conor finally gave in before he turned to Jack. "Mr. Madris, I apologize for the inconvenience, but we have to examine your body as well."

Jack looked relaxed and didn't seem to bother at all. He just simply nodded as he followed the lead of the young scientist to the examination glass.

After Jack got inside the glass, Kevin suddenly spoke, "I need to use a restroom, Sirs."

The two men looked at him and nodded their heads simultaneously.

Kevin smiled before thanking them. He then immediately excused himself to the restroom.

The restroom was outside the laboratory, so he had to walk out of the laboratory first. He then walked down the corridor with a light heart. He was happy that everything went smoothly without any hurdles.

"Kevin!"

A call coming from behind halted his steps. He turned around and found Julia Concord walked over to him.

"What's wrong, Jule? You don't look well since earlier," he asked the pregnant lady while furrowing his eyebrows.

He noticed how Julia kept silent when they were in the laboratory. Julia couldn't stop squirming when they were inside the laboratory, and the attitude didn't go unnoticed. He could sense that something was not right with the lady, but he couldn't tell what was that something.

Julia suddenly glanced around her surroundings, even looking up to the ceiling and every nook and cranny at the corridor. It seemed that she was very cautious.

"You said that someone might have a bad scheme on you and your ally, right?" She asked while looking up at him. Her voice was soft and low as if she didn't want other people to hear her question.

Now Kevin understood why Julia glanced around earlier. She made sure that no one was nearby, and also made sure that there was no surveillance camera in the area.

Kevin was still frowning when he answered, "Yeah. That's why we are investigating the case secretly."

"You do know that there's still a threat in the world, but you and your ally are willing to let go of your powers. Isn't that too risky? Without your powers, how can you defeat the hidden villain?"

Finally, Kevin could understand Julia's worries. He could understand why Julia looked uneasy the whole time.

"Do you think I don't have a backup plan, Julia?" He asked the lady as he smiled mysteriously. He then leaned forward a little as he whispered, "Let me tell you something." His face suddenly looked dangerous and dark.. "This examination is a part of my plan."
