Chapter 774 v4c145p2
It's Not A Coincidence
Devard seemed as if he lost all his tolerance and roared out in anger, his face was full of indignation as if he had seen an implacable enemy. Faced with such a Hawk, Brendel felt innocent. He even felt that it was too much of a coincidence. When they first met, he cut off one of the other party's hand;, the second time they met, the other party almost died on the battlefield; and this time, it was clear that the next thing to happen would be something this man wouldn't like to see.
Brendel felt pity for the Highlander's Hawk in his heart, but that didn't stop him from saying what he had to say next, "Mr. Devard, has your hand grown back?"
"Count Trentheim, you deserve to die!" Devard's face was as gloomy as black tar. Brendel could feel his anger. If this anger was turned into substance, then at this moment Brendel would have already been wounded, but unfortunately, the Hawk was still far from being able to kill from a thousand miles away with consciousness, so Brendel had nothing to worry about at the moment.
Of course, Mr. Devard's courage was unquestionable because if he could, he would have drawn his longsword and dismembered Brendel, or at least sacrifice his life upon killing Brendel in order to avenge his shame. But now Devard felt as if his legs were heavily planted into the ground, not to mention to fight with Brendel, it would be difficult for him to even take a step forward.
Because Brendel was leading the two giant Wandering Magic Lords behind him, and a tidal wave of Revitalizing Magic - the Icy Breaths were coming directly towards them. As long as one's intellect was still sound, one would understand what this Count Trentheim had in mind. After all, it was not a very impressive ploy with such a move.
But here's the thing…
Devard found that there was only one way left for them to deal with this despicable ploy. "Vile bastards!" He cursed and turned around, giving the single most impeccable order to deal with the situation at hand, "Retreat!"
Brendel laughed inside. Just as Devard had realized, it was also how he had planned long ago- what both parties were going to do now was run a torturing race. They did not need to run extremely fast, they just needed to be faster than each other. But it was not easy for Devard to slip away one step ahead of him. Brendel snapped his fingers and spun his index finger in the air, then the black-robed knights who were retreating suddenly felt their feet go numb, and the originally solid ground seemed to turn into a rotten mud floor.
Secondary Quicksand Spell, a tier one earth element spell which only effect was to soften the ground. Because the spell's effect was on the ground and not the people walking on it, the black-robed knights didn't even have the chance to resist the spell with magic resistance. Although in general, this spell itself was not necessary to resist, because it only makes the ground a little softer, and not like the real Quicksand Spell that would swallow things up. Except to limit the cavalry on a battlefield, this spell's effect was minimal. Furthermore, the range of the spell was so small that unless hundreds of Mages cast it together, it would be meaningless on a battlefield that could be miles wide.
However, wouldn't it be better for a few hundred Mages to cast some other spell to deal with cavalry?
This spell had a minimal effect even on the black-robed knights. Although their speed inevitably slowed down on the soft ground, the change in speed was so minimal that it did not hurt. Devard heard someone snort softly, obviously feeling some disdain at Brendel's childish move. If this happened six months earlier, he might have thought the same thing too. It was totally ridiculous to use a tier one spell against beings of Elemental Activation.
But now he was alarmed. Was the other party easy to deal with? The scar on his arm was the answer to this question.
What happened next immediately confirmed his thoughts.
The next thing that happened was that airflow stagnation, turbulent wind, secondary rust, ice feet, chains of inflammation, accelerated fatigue, slightly increased gravity, one after another tier one spells fell upon everyone. Though each spell's effect was minimal, the good thing was that it did not require casting time. Brendel was almost running all the time while casting these low-level spells, throwing them at the black-robed knight, not needing to succeed in penetrating the black-robed knight's magic resistance every time. But as soon as one spell took effect, these high-ranking devotees of All For One would slow down.
Normally, this slowdown would be almost meaningless because it was short-term and just as time-consuming, but at the moment, for all the black-robed knights, it was a death knell. One by one, Brendel surpassed the knights he had slowed down, and the giant Wandering Magic Lords that followed him as well as the countless Icy Breaths swallowed them up in an instant, like stones thrown into the sea, disappearing in the sea of monsters.
"Vile!"
The senior believers of All For One were normally perceived as the most sinister, cunning, and ruthless existence by mortals, but at this moment in their hearts, Brendel was the real evil. The Nine Phoenix had an old saying, which is called being a helper of the evil, and this was exactly the kind of role Brendel was playing in their minds right now. If it was just Brendel, they could easily defeat him by joining forces, at least that's what the black-robed knights thought. But unfortunately, Brendel obviously would not give them this opportunity, instead, he would only cast spells over them and let the Icy Breaths behind finish them off one by one.
This was simply a fox borrowing the majesty of the tiger. [Note: A fox borrowing the majesty of the tiger (Chinese idiom)= relying on other's power to confront other people.)
Of course, there were a few black-robed knights who can't stand the humiliation and returned with their swords drawn, wanting to put their lives on line and attack Brendel. But unfortunately, they soon realized a problem- Brendel was a pent-up Elementalist, but his swordsmanship was surprisingly good. Then with such astonishing thoughts, they were swept into the group of monsters behind by Brendel's Nine Luminaries.
One by one, the numbers of knights reduced, and soon, only Devard was left alone in Brendel's field of vision.
The Hawk was worthy to be Arreck's sidekick. Brendel felt that the opponent might have the Meditation Amulet, or secondary Spell Resisting Brooch-class magic equipment because when tier one or tier two spells hit him, they would instantly disappeared without trace. So Brendel tried releasing a tier three fire vector, staggering the opponent and leaving a scorched black mark on his back armor. It was indeed the Meditation Amulet because the secondary Spell Resisting Brooch was resistant to spells below tier four. But Brendel shook his head as he only knew the fire vector from tier three spells, and he didn't have enough EP to repeatedly use it. After all, to rely on tier three spells to kill an Elemental Activated opponent was ridiculous.
If only he had the tier three Wind Bondage that could hold Devard back for even just a second, would be enough for him to suffer.
Brendel had to admit he was an unqualified Elementalist. Activating tier two spells was already a struggle to him, not to mention it was with the help of high Willpower, activating tier three spells had been a real challenge. And obviously, he could not stand still to cast the spells.
And now Brendel had to face two problems.
One, Devard could run faster than him. And two, he seemed to have no way to slow down Devard down.
Obviously, Mr. Hawk knew this too after Brendel's multiple attempts. He couldn't help but gave Brendel a smug look and although looking a little wretched, he still turned back and mocked loudly, "You're crazy, do you know what you're really doing? Could it be that you plan to keep running away like this? Haha, then you will definitely die before me!"
After Devard shouted these words, he felt a burst of happiness inside, as if ever since facing Brendel, this was the first time he was at advantage. But this complacency did not have time to been shown on his face before it died out. He froze when he saw Brendel looking at him pitifully.
If anyone else looked at him like that, he would have felt angry, insulted, and belittled.
But Devard was alarmed because the one looking at him like that now was Brendel.
He must be up to something!
He must be planning to lure me into some trap!
Devard was simply too familiar with this young man. Although they've only gotten to know who the biggest beneficiary of the battle was, that the other party had planned their failure as if predicted, and toyed around with them as well as the Duke. If there is anything in this world that he can consider to be evil, then the other party's face must be the same face in front of him now.
Devard felt the goosebumps on his skin. He was focused on Brendel's every move, immediately rehearsing all kinds of counterattacks in his mind with every slightest movement Brendel made.
But Brendel only made one move.
He spoke one sentence to him in lip language.
Mr. Hawk was slightly stunned. It wasn't that he didn't know how to read lips, but what Brendel said to him was too strange.
"Watch out in front?"
"Watch out for what in front?"
