Spirit Soul

192 Briskandt

Even though the guards had no idea what Kyle wanted to do in the garrison, there was no lawful reason to reject him.

Instead, given the fact that Yasmine was with them, they were obliged to guide the unexpected visitors inside Birskandt, which was the name of the garrison.

It made them a bit uncomfortable to return to Briskandt with Kyle by their side, but seeing how he and the other two women were acting with each other, they felt much calmer.

The young man, whose appearance was oddly similar to that of an Aldra, looked kind, and he was talking calmly to everyone, ignoring the hostile gazes the guards threw at him.

Secretly, Kyle was glad that he was not instantaneously killed, which was also the reason he couldn't care less about the gazes directed at him.

In the worst-case scenario, he would just purchase a mask to hide his face, which should prevent others to feel uncomfortable around him.

However, instead of worrying about it further, he simply walked ahead and stepped inside the garrison.

This caused him to take a deep breath before he was subjected to a variety of tests.

In order to cross the second layer of the wall where citizens, lower-ranked merchants and some soldiers were living with their families, everyone had to be examined first.

Apparently, this was a necessity because a few diseases were spreading through the Sadorla forest.

Most of them originated from the Nasga race that was experimenting with viruses in order to create a virus their body was resistant to but target all other races that would succumb to it.

Hearing this, Kyle was appalled to see the extent to which the rivalry within races had festered, making them resort to inhumane methods to establish their superiority over the Sadorla forest.

But, he had no say in this political tug of war and simply outstretched his hand to let his blood drawn out and collected into a syringe to run some tests.

Additionally, a few other tests, requiring his saliva, urine, strands of his hair, traces of his Soul force that were stored in an energy storage device, and so on were also conducted.

Even his cultivation base was noted alongwith his exact appearance, post which he was led towards a room where nearly every inch of his body was inspected for anomalies and so on.

This clearly told Kyle that the situation was extremely tense, and far from the calm, he had expected to encounter.

It got even worse when he figured out that the guards that had been out for only a few minutes had to take the exact same test as their group.

'I guess the faint dome has its reason to envelop Briskandt…'

Initially, Kyle wanted to search for a way to leave the Sadorla forest right off the bat by searching for a mission that allowed them to officially enter the Lahin kingdom.

However, given the possible pandemic being spread by the Nasga race, he was not sure how safe it was to leave the garrison in order to enter the Lahin kingdom.

He didn't want to be a carrier of a deadly virus that would kill innocent people in the Lahin kingdom, after all.

Thinking about the situation, Kyle felt a little bit uncomfortable, but that didn't help him any further.

Instead, it diverted his attention from the other issues he had to solve.

First of all, his reputation was sub-zero.

This would have caused lots of issues had Yasmine not been by their side.

Fortunately, she was with them, giving them quite an advantage as some of the demihumans automatically assumed that Kyle was Yasmine's slave.

While she felt very uncomfortable about this assumption, Kyle couldn't care less of what others thought of him.

If it helped them to enter the Lahin kingdom, he might as well be considered Yasmine's slave, and a fashionable one at that!

The clothes he wore, his expression, the way he walked, and the presence Kyle radiated were poles apart from that of a slave, but it was as if the demihumans were blinded by the thought that he might be an Aldra.

It made them believe their first assumption was supposed to be the correct one, even if it couldn't be further from the truth.

Nevertheless, the mindset of the demihumans made things much easier for their group because they regarded Yasmine highly while ignoring Kyle.

This was perfectly fine with him as Yasmine knew what they were looking for.

As such, once they entered through the second gate, Yasmine was the center of attraction because her appearance was unique among the demihumans.

Meanwhile, Beatrice also made heads turn because it was rare for existences with an otherworldly beauty such as hers to appear in the garrison.

After all, they were in the center of a war zone that was infested with lethal dangers, and Beatrice's cultivation base was not exactly high.

Kyle might be handsome enough to receive one or another fleeting glance, but that was already it.

The demihumans didn't even think about paying him more attention than necessary, which suited him as well.

It allowed Kyle to observe the surroundings using his Nurture ability to perceive the hues of everyone around him.

Through this, he knew what kind of demihuman was talented, and possibly a threat, and what beings had already reached the limit of their cultivation potential.

There were a few more things he was able to perceive, but none of that was really important because most of the things he figured out were quite shocking.

From the looks of it, a few citizens of the garrison had already been infected with the disease the Nasga had spread, and the healers had been too late to stop the infection from spreading further.

If he was not perceiving anything wrongly, the citizens that had been infected lost the sense of the surrounding cultivation energies, while their cultivation vessel was slowly decaying.

Kyle imagined this to be extremely painful, but there was not really anything he could do about it. His Nurture ability would also lose potency when utilized multiple times on the same person.

And, even if despite this fact he would try something, the guards would behead him.

That was something Kyle was sure of.

As such, he prevented himself from inviting more trouble.

It would be really bad if something were to happen to him, and as long as others trusted him, Kyle wouldn't do anything.

Like others, he too held his life dearly, after all.

While Kyle scanned the demihumans in his surroundings and had figuring out that they were not spreading the Nasga disease anymore, but simply hurting themselves, Yasmine had found what she was looking for.

It was one of the biggest buildings within the area of the second wall, and Briskandt's guildhall.

The Guild was a recognized institution that had its branches across the Shalivra valley, and could be considered as the valley's superpower.

Understanding this was not difficult, and in order to prevent the guild, or its supporters to be enraged, they were allowed to build their Guildhall within every town, city, and even garrison as long as they wanted to.

As such, the guildhall was their final destination where they could request missions, and even avail temporary lodging facility as long as they were registered.

The lodging fee was not that big either, and the higher one's ranking the cheaper the fee was.

This was one of the big perks the guild provided to its adventurers!

With that in mind, Kyle was not even that bothered if they wouldn't find a suitable mission to enter the Lahin kingdom.

There were more than enough things he had to do, either way.

As such, he could focus on completing all kinds of daily tasks for a few months instead.

However, this didn't mean that he wanted to wait for that long.

Rather, he wanted to meet Selene again as it had already been more than a year since they had last seen each other.

Having undergone all kinds of trials, he was tired of feeling as if she was just a step away from him, only to figure that this one big step was similar to an entire ocean filled with vicious marine beasts!

Because of that, Kyle hoped for the best outcome as he looked through the mission board that had far more missions than their group first assumed.

Each wall on the side was filled with missions, which showed that there were too many tasks that needed to be completed and too few adventurers to solve everything.

This was quite advantageous for him because the moment they required cultivation resources he might as well leave the garrison to complete a batch of missions before returning.

According to the guards, they could leave the garrison as often as they wanted.

However, everytime that they returned, they would have to undergo the same examinations as before.

Kyle was not exactly bothered by this because he understood that they were only following a security protocol.

Unfortunately, even after everyone had looked through every single mission, not a single one appeared to be suitable for them.

There were a few missions that requested specialists to enter the Lahin kingdom for certain matters, but the conditions were always that the adventurers had to be Lohars.

Because nobody in the group of three belonged to the Lohar race, there was no point in finding a loophole in the requirements of the mission, to begin with.

It was quite complicated, but by now Kyle had figured out that entering the Lahin kingdom wouldn't be as easy as he had been hoping for.

As such, instead of attempting the impossible, and just barging through the Lahin kingdom's front gates, Kyle decided to calm himself by taking deep breaths to prevent him from acting recklessly.

This was quite important, and something he had to pay attention to because the consequence of doing something stupid was likely to be his beheading.

While he was deep in thoughts, running his eyes through the notes of missions once again, Arashi emerged from Kyle's chest.

Jumping on top of Kyle's head, he settled down on his usual spot and the only indication that he had shown up was the Spirit Soul's weight.

It didn't restrict him in any way.

As such, he let him sit down and proceeded with reading.

In fact, Kyle transmitted to Arashi asking him to pay attention to the notes and see if he could find something that would pave a way for him inside the Lahin kingdom, preferably in the center of the kingdom.

Yet, instead of finding something that had to do with the Lahin kingdom, Arashi's attention was drawn to somewhere else.

Several guards that were heavily armed in comparison to the guards they had seen earlier entered the guildhall.

Their bright shining and fiery emblem could be seen from every corner of the room as the Lohars wearing highly protective armors walked through the hall.

It was not difficult to perceive that they were confident in themselves, and when Kyle turned around in response to Arashi's warning, he couldn't help but feel stupefied.

"Arent's those the Blazing Legion Soldiers?!?"

He was unfamiliar with every single Lohar that had entered the building, but it didn't make a difference because Kyle was overly familiar with the insignia of the Lahin kingdom's elite military unit!

Having known the Blazing Legion from some time ago, his eyes began to gleam brightly as he recalled one particular person from Vila town.

'He won't be here, right? This…would be too much of a coincidence!
