Primordial Dimensions

Chapter 338 - Misconception

Had they just killed those the tower dungeon had asked them to protect?!

This thought was shocking, but Shane realized that he hadn't evaluated the situation properly before…

Despite that, the floor task was still not deemed a failure.

This was good, but the difficulty level must have gone up due to the big mistake they had made.

However, Shane thought that nothing was making sense.

The beings belonging to the Karn kingdom that were demons had obviously attacked the other kingdom.

Furthermore before he, his tamed beasts, and Ilya had appeared, they had been likely to win the battle.

At least, their chances had been much higher at that time. Several blue-skinned human-like existences had been required to kill one of the Beasts, let alone lesser demons.

Only Shane and the rest had it much easier, allowing them to use their higher combat prowess to kill them easily.

His mind was full of questions, but before he could make another big mistake, Shane heard the guard who stopped in front of him saying something.

"Sir. Please follow us behind the walls. The Karn kingdom can attack us anytime again!"

Shane just nodded his head as a rough plan formed in his mind.

He required more information! As such, entering enemy lands and cities might not be the worst idea.

Both Cosmo and Umbra returned to the Hidden Paradise, while Ilya appeared next to him.

She had been unaware of what they'd done, thus he sent her a few messages through the system messenger.

This function was not restricted to them and was the best to use to prevent others from hearing them.

Princess Ilya's liquefied body had stiffened for a moment after reading through the messages but she regained her composure fairly quickly.

'F*ck'

Her reaction was similar to Shane's but she was able to remain calmer than he did.

In less than a minute, she had already begun to question the city guard who was trying to answer his best.

From how the conflict between the two kingdoms had begun, to how the current state of both sides looked like, and if there were other kingdoms that were intervening in their war too, the guard narrated everything in no particular order to Ilya and Shane.

The answers were short and without any exact information.

Thus, Ilya could only grumble inwardly, while Shane was observing the battlefield and the other guards' behavior.

They simply collected the corpses of demon beasts and lesser demons.

However, while doing so, Shane could see a glint of greed and joy in their eyes.

Seeing this, it was evident that the corpses were extremely valuable.

The blue-skinned human-like race that called themselves [Ara] didn't seem to feel bad about their brethrens' death either!

All of that were signs that they were missing information and that the Ara race was not as good or worthy of being saved as initially expected.

In the end, the Karn kingdom's attack was even labeled as a blessing in disguise by the guard who had led them inside the city.

Both Shane and Ilya were glanced at weirdly for a second by the citizens, but after that their entire existence had been ignored.

It didn't take long before they had reached the center of the city where a magnificent cathedral was located.

The guard entered it without hesitation, and both Ilya and Shane, who had goosebumps covering their entire body, followed suit.

Every little detail he perceived was imprinted into his mind. From the looks of it, the Myn kingdom was controlled by religious authorities.

Because of the priests and other occupations, Shane was able to see every few meters, who were busy casting healing skills and using other means to heal the injured, the Ara race appeared to be gentle and empathetic.

But was that really the case?

Earlier, Shane's prejudice had deteriorated his judgment to determine the situation clearly, but that was not the case anymore.

After walking inside the cathedral, they had entered a large hall in which Shane had seen the priests which made everyone believe in the Ara race's gentle outer appearance.

But the exact opposite could be seen further in the back as he perceived how the carcasses of the demon beasts and lesser demons had been emptied of their blood, mana core, organs, and other valuable goods.

This was nothing special under normal circumstances.

However, the blue skin of the Ara that had dissected the demon beast's body had begun to glow faintly.

There were faint pitch-black runes shining on the Ara's body!

Shane squinted his eyes while inserting more mana into his [Eagle Eye] skill before he was able to see the runes in detail.

He was not sure what kind of runes they were, but only a moment later, Shane witnessed how the Ara gulped down a vial of the demon beast's blood.

The faint pitch-black runes glowed up for a moment before retracting back into the Ara's body.

'That was not a curse...I think...or was it?'

This was interesting, but also something that caused Shane's goosebumps that had just vanished to resurface.

Trying to make sense of what he had seen until now, he could only make assumptions.

Nothing had been proven and the crucial information that could separate the right from the wrong was still missing.

The connection between the demon blood and the pitch-black runes that retracted into the Ara's body was evident.

But what were the runes he had been able to see and was the existence of the runes on the Ara's body the reason for the war between the Karn and Myn kingdom?

Who was at fault? How could he solve the issue? Were morales and ethics even necessary to accomplish the fluare tower dungeons task of the third floor?

Nobody could answer these questions for Shane right now, and not knowing what to do was bothersome.

However, before he could continue to think about the answers to all of the questions that swirled through his mind they entered the second hall of the cathedral.

The room did not have much furniture and the biggest structure was the marble altar in the center of the room.

A huge magic circle that consisted of countless runes was engraved around the marble altar.

The marble altar had a small pit within, with black blood inside.

Just as Shane and Ilya entered the second room, one could see an old Ara, who looked like he had lived eons, push a crying Ara youngling inside the puddle of black blood.

Only a few seconds had passed before the old Ara lifted the youngling that had stopped crying out of the blood puddle.

Its entire body was suddenly etched with the same black runes Shane had seen earlier.

Just at that moment, Ilya's liquefied body and that of Shane's stiffened as an ominous aura permeated the entire second room.

Yet, before either of them was able to move or figure out what was going on, the ominous aura permeating the room was drawn to the pitch-black runes that were carved into the skin of the baby.

The suction force was even noticeable at a distance over 30 meters where Shane and Ilya stood, and Shane's eyes widened.

Just as the ominous aura had been absorbed by the Ara youngling, the black runes began to shine faintly, while its eyes turned crimson.

There was no trace of white left anymore, and Shane had to control himself so as to not blurt out anything inappropriate.
