Primordial Dimensions
Chapter 308 - Carnage
Shane's mood had hit rock bottom, and his desire to obliterate the system increased with each passing day!
Around five months had passed, yet his search for the other two shelters that should have been somewhere around him hadn't given him any solid leads.
In the end, he didn't find anything, and it was only after four months that Shane decided to take matters into his own hand.
Instead of wasting more time, he had ordered Umbra to search for the Destar race's shelter and asked his tamed beast to take him to it as he roughly knew the direction in which they had to go in order to find it.
Yet, even after a month had passed he couldn't find their shelter either!
The only fact that prevented Shane from giving up was that there were huge blood puddles and man-made objects every now and then on his journey to the Destar race's shelter.
Shane was not sure what exactly those structures were, it looked like if one were to call the weird constructions of pillars and wood that looked more like someone had just thrown everything haphazardly together, but he knew that someone had made them.
And it was definitely not beasts who had constructed that!
As such, the more constructions he found, the better Shane's mood became, until he found the outlines of the first shelter after five months had passed.
Finally, after feeling useless for five months in which he had done almost nothing except doing research and learning more things that might be useful for the future, a shelter came into his sight.
Yet, Shane knew that he couldn't just rush into the shelter and start questioning the Destar race about their two accomplices in the RadiantRing Overlord beast tide!
It was unlikely that every single member of the race knew about the plans made by their head!
As such, there had to be someone from the military or at least the shelter captain whom he had to question and look for answers.
This was easier said than done, but Shane already had a plan in his mind.
If the Destar race was allowed to play around with other races' lives, why shouldn't he do the same?
With that in mind, Shane allowed Umbra to enter the Hidden Paradise that was filled with thousands of Nightshade flowers before he chose a spot to hide and waited in the dark.
Shane's purpose was not special, and neither was his plan but sometimes a simple trick could do what a strategic plan couldn't!
At least, that was what he thought.
As long as someone from the Destar race were to leave their shelter, Shane would pursue and ambush them.
The strongest amongst them would be allowed to stay alive because he would know the most answers to his question, but other than that, nothing much would happen.
In the first few days, nobody should notice him, but that was fine.
However, contrary to his expectations and the plan he had set up, Shane who had activated the [Eagle Eye] skill was able to see something that was completely different from his wildest assumptions!
A large number of several Destars had left the shelter and were marching in his direction! They were well-armed and Shane felt as if their purpose was to kill him!
First, he didn't realize how they could have spotted him, but after thinking about it for some time, he couldn't help but recall the weird-looking structures.
"Were those radars..or a transmission mast???" Shane felt extremely stupid to have not thought about this, however, instead of being worried, he couldn't help but feel that the person he believed to be the Destar shelter captain was throwing himself towards him!
He believed that a common shelter captain wouldn't have a mana purity above 90% because that would be a waste of one's talent.
As such, Umbra should be able to take care of the captain's shelter within a short amount of time.
Other than that, the remaining soldiers should be at or slightly above mankind's shelter guards.
It was highly likely that they had a mana purity of 70%.
Yet, both assumptions were nothing like predictions and not something he could take for granted.
Thus, Shane remained vigilant as he took out the bow of destruction, Alaran, and a quiver manifested in his other hand. He then smoothly knocked an arrow at the bowstring before he pulled it back.
Thanks to the [Eagle Eye] skill, he had no problem seeing his opponents clearly.
After he adjusted the angle of his bow, he loosened the grasp around the bowstring and the arrow flew in a smooth curve through the air issuing faint noises.
*surr*
Shane did not look whether his arrow had hit the target or not.
He simply nocked another arrow at the bowstring of his bow before he smoothly pulled the string back.
Within the next half-minute, Shane had been able to shoot four more times, and it was only then that the small combat unit of the Destar race had dared to disperse.
Out of the large group, four Destar had been killed by Shane's arrows, and he had yet to store his bow away.
The distance between him and the closest Destar was still more than 500 meters and it would be foolish to waste such a great opportunity to decimate his opponents.
As such, Shane continued to shoot the arrows that were amplified by the [Double Impact] effect of his bow, which increased the lethality of every single arrow he had shot!
It was only after Shane had shot another three arrows in quick succession that he had to store his bow and the quiver in his spatial ring.
Taking a deep breath, he summoned his sword before Cosmo appeared on his shoulder.
Despite being too weak to attack physically, his small companion, whose size had increased by a few centimeters after his quality upgrade, wanted to help!
As such, Shane allowed Cosmo to teleport him through the rows of opponents once the time was ripe.
The Destar race's combat unit was slowly gathering at one place again when their distance to Shane had decreased to 100 meters to overwhelm him.
Earlier, he had been a little bit worried, but what caused his dejected mood of five months to lift was the Destar race's shelter captain's expression!
At least, he assumed the strongest Destar to be the shelter captain, and by scanning through his and the other Destars' mana pool, Shane figured out that he had overestimated their race's capabilities.
'They're only slightly above our guards' average strength...only the shelter captain can be considered to be stronger than ours!'
This shouldn't have surprised him, but Shane had to acknowledge that his standards might have been too high.
Since he had refined two stages of his physique perfectly and acquired the Hidden Paradise that allowed him to execute more mana than it would normally be possible, Shane found that his standards had increased.
This should have been Aisha, Frer, and Miriam's fault too because their strength was considered to be mankind's cream of the crop.
At least, within the basic dimensions.
Shane was unable to suppress a faint smile when he noticed his opponents' strength.
Initially, the Destar race's combat unit was told to follow the shelter captain to take care of two stray beasts that had approached their shelter.
Yet, instead of two beasts, what they found was a bipedal being from a foreign race, with a small beast on his shoulder.
The bipedal being was smiling at them, after killing six of their brethren which ignited their wrath.
This caused the guards to be enraged and after they noticed that their strength was likely above Shane's, they simply charged at him.
The Shelter captain instructed them to attack in an orderly manner and pay attention to their opponent, but nobody paid heed to him whatsoever.
It was only when four spatial portals appeared at the exact time that everyone noticed that something was wrong.
Everyone stiffened, when Umbra emerged from the Hidden Paradise, shooting straight in one of the spatial portals that led him to the shelter captain, who was at the rear end, trying to control his own combat unit.
Yet, instead of being able to do so, Umbra had unleashed his entire combat prowess that was much higher than the shelter captain's.
Within a second he had released a dense fog of darkness that enveloped Umbras' entire being along with everything within a radius of ten meters around him.
Shane was not sure what exactly was going on within the enshrouding of darkness, but he simply charged towards the other spatial portal that allowed him to land right in the center of the several dozen Destar race guards.
The moment he emerged, Shane released his [Mana membrane] skill, along with both martial art techniques that were at the profound mastery.
At the same time, his entire body was enveloped in thick bloodlust-killing intent while a small amount of mana was transferred from the Hidden Paradise into his mana pool.
This mana was utilized to circulate through his body and sharpen his sword further.
The blade of his sword was razor-sharp and Shane had already sliced Mydra through the necks of those Destars who had been too slow to turn around to defend against his attack.
Only a moment later, the spatial portal behind him dispersed as another one appeared in front of him.
He stepped through it again, and this time he emerged in front of the foremost Destar guards who had already turned in the direction of his last position.
Given his fast pace and the momentum on his side, the Destar guards were unable to match his speed and turn towards him before their entire body seemed to become heavy.
Their sight blurred and it was only now that they understood the real dangers of underestimating their opponent.
It wasn't that Shane was too strong for them to overwhelm, but his mind games and the intimidation had distorted their senses, allowing Shane to subdue them easily!
In the end, the fight against the Destar race's guards was a simple carnage and was heavily one-sided. Shane couldn't help but understand why they didn't dare to attack another race's shelter directly.
"They're not strong enough to take care of a simple shelter without their strongest prodigies...exactly like our race!"
