Picking Up Attributes From Today
Chapter 113 - Strengths And Weaknesses, The Ruler Descends
Panda Novel
Even stuff of legends like Colossal Dragons and Titans existed, so… Why couldn’t deities exist, too?
When he thought of it that way, Meng Lei was able to reconcile himself with the idea. However, after that, another doubt surfaced in his mind—since deities existed, could humans become deities?
If they can, then am I able to become a deity?
“Humans can become deities, of course!” Ol’ Amos gave Meng Lei a definite answer to his query. “Or rather, every lifeform in Heaven’s Vault Continent has the chance to become a deity.”
Ol’ Amos looked up at the starry sky. As he gazed at the dazzling Milky Way shining so brilliantly, he gave a carefree sigh and said, “It’s said that many of the high and mighty deities were once lower lifeforms that became deities through cultivation.”
So, it’s possible!
Meng Lei became excited at once. “How do I become one?”
Ol’ Amos twisted his beard and replied with a smile, “According to old ancient records, there are many ways one can become a deity, but for the vast majority of lifeforms, there’s only one route to becoming a deity, and that is—the laws of nature.
“Deities are also known as the controllers of the laws of nature. In other words, as long as you can control the laws of nature, you are a deity.”
“Control the laws of nature?” Meng Lei murmured softly.
“The laws of nature are the truth and essence of everything in the universe and are also the rules and laws that everything in the world must follow. Nothing can break away from the laws of nature during their operation. The laws are supreme and contain inconceivable might!”
Ol’ Amos couldn’t help but let out a laugh. He said, “It’s exactly because the deities can control the laws of nature that they are omnipotent and eternal.”
Meng Lei asked, “In that case, how does one control the laws of nature, Ol’ President?”
“You’re already thinking about controlling the laws of nature when you haven’t even figured out the universe’s momentum? You’re biting off more than you can chew.” Ol’ Amos chided him in amusement.
His response dumbfounded Meng Lei.
“The universe’s momentum is the outward appearance of the laws of nature. If you want to comprehend the laws of nature, then you must be able to control the universe’s momentum first.” Ol’ Amos’ smile disappeared as he said, “It’s only when you can part the fog surrounding the universe’s momentum that you can access laws on a deeper level.”
Meng Lei looked thoughtful at his words.
“To put it simply, one controls the universe’s momentum at ninth-grade,” said Ol’ Amos in conclusion. “While they can only begin to study the laws of nature after they reach Saint Domain level. No matter what, grasping the universe’s momentum will always be a prerequisite.”
“I understand now.” Meng Lei nodded slowly, already starting to come up with plans in his mind.
By spending gold coins in the system, he could also break through the ninth-grade limits to become a Saint Domain.
In other words, it was possible for him to attain Saint Domain level without needing to control the universe’s momentum.
By right, this should have been something positive. However, Meng Lei suddenly realized that even if he did become a Saint Domain, it was very likely that he’d just end up becoming a pseudo-Saint Domain that had the corresponding body sturdiness, spiritual power, and magic power reserves, but not the actual spiritual realm.
It was just like when he had clearly possessed a body comparable to a Ninth-Grade Warrior previously but didn’t have the corresponding Battle Aura cultivation level.
He could only be considered… A pseudo-Ninth-Grade Warrior.
Going by the same vein, it was highly likely that he would really turn into a pseudo-Saint Domain.
In that case, won’t I have the living daylights beaten out of me if I were to run into a real Saint Domain? After all that’s said and done, I still have to comprehend the universe’s momentum, isn’t it? Damn, that’s annoying.
Meng Lei was rather troubled over this. Although spending gold coins in the system could improve his body, spiritual power, and magic power reserves, it couldn’t boost his comprehension of the universe’s momentum and laws of nature.
This means that I’ll have to comprehend the universe’s momentum and nature’s laws step by step properly like other people in the future? How miserable… What’s the use of this lousy system, then?!
Meng Lei cursed silently. Then, he asked, “Ol’ President, what must I do in order to control the universe’s momentum?”
“You’ll have to slowly figure that out on your own.” Ol’ Amos shook his head. “The universe’s momentum is invisible and non-tactile. If you comprehend it, you comprehend it. If you can’t, then there’s no other way. Nobody can help you with that!”
Meng Lei’s brows drew together tightly.
Is it that deep and profound?
“However…” Ol’ Amos twisted his beard with a smile. “You’ve become a Great Ninth-Grade Magician at such a young age—this is your biggest strength.”
“Uh… Is that even considered a strength?” Meng Lei frowned slightly.
“Duh, of course!”
Ol’ Amos snorted and explained, “Life is short, and one’s lifespan is limited. Even a Great Ninth-Grade Magician only has a short lifespan of 100 years or so. It’s so fleeting that it’s practically ridiculous.
“For a lot of people, by the time they’ve cultivated till the ninth-grade realm, their hair has already turned white from old age. How much time do they have left to comprehend the universe’s momentum?”
Meng Lei nodded. He made a lot of sense there.
“Because you don’t need to worry about dying from old age so soon, you have ample time to comprehend the universe’s momentum. You’re not just a mere step ahead of others.” Ol’ Amos stroked his beard as he gazed at Meng Lei. “However, your biggest weakness is that your magic talent is too good, and you actually have four types of elemental affinities—thunder, fire, earth, and wood—at the same time.”
“Is that a weakness?” Meng Lei was dumbfounded.
“Of course!” Ol’ Amos’ countenance was stern as he explained, “Having four types of magic talent means that you’ll need to spend four times, perhaps even longer, the amount of time others need in order to comprehend the universe’s momentum. That’s a huge rise in the difficulty level.”
Meng Lei’s brows drew together.
“Therefore, I’d suggest that you give up three of them and choose only one type to comprehend.” Ol’ Amos said with a smile, “You have excellent talent. If you cultivate only one element, I have confidence that you can start to see the laws of nature’s vague outlines and successfully break through to Saint Domain.”
Choosing only one element from among thunder, fire, earth, and wood?
Meng Lei fell silent.
Frankly speaking, he didn’t want to give up any of them. These were elemental affinities that he had only picked up after so much trouble. What a waste it would be to discard them…
“Let me think about this,” Meng Lei replied with a shake of his head.
“Think about it properly, brat.”
Ol’ Amos didn’t press him further but smiled and twisted his beard instead.
He understood very well how Meng Lei felt. Nobody that had four types of elemental affinities at the same time like him would want to give up any of them.
However, at times like this, one must learn how to make a choice.
Otherwise, there was a high chance that they would end up inhibiting both sides and end up wasting a great amount of time. To Great Ninth-Grade Magicians with such short lifespans, this was unacceptable.
“Alright, I understand.”
Meng Lei nodded lightly and changed the depressing subject. He asked, “Ol’ President, what happened after the deities descended? Did they kill off all the Golden Gods-Slaying Ants?”
“Yes!”
Ol’ Amos nodded lightly. “The Golden Gods-Slaying Ants may be strong—among which, some of them could even contend with the deities—but they ultimately weren’t a match for the deities’ joint siege on them.
“In the end, the Golden Gods-Slaying Ants were completely annihilated by the deities. In fact, to prevent the Golden Gods-Slaying Ants from making a comeback, the deities even wiped out every single offspring that had inherited the Golden Gods-Slaying Ants’ bloodline.”
At this point, the way Ol’ Amos looked at Meng Lei turned complex at once. “Unfortunately, there were still some that had slipped through the cracks, and you… are evidently one of them.”
“There must be a lot of them that got away. Who knows just how many there are concretely?”
Meng Lei touched his nose, wishing he could say that the one that had truly slipped through the cracks was actually Little Gold and not him.
I’m just an idle onlooker that accidentally picked up the Golden Gods-Slaying Ant bloodline.
“Brat, you must keep this in mind.” Ol’ Amos suddenly became very stern, unprecedentedly so. “No matter when, you must never let anyone know that you have the Golden Gods-Slaying Ant bloodline in you. Otherwise, a great disaster will befall upon you.”
“I understand, Ol’ President.”
Mildly alarmed, Meng Lei nodded to indicate that he’d understood. His life was at stake here; he had to be cautious about it.
Ol’ Amos nodded lightly. “I’m glad you understand.”
At that moment, the ground suddenly began to shake. As if thousands upon thousands of horses were running across the ground, it emitted deep, dull, and varied explosions.
“Has the ant tide come?”
Meng Lei raised his head and looked around him.
“No, it’s not the ant tide!” Ol’ Amos shook his head. “The commotion is too great; it must be some kind of creature that’s even bigger. You must be careful and stay vigilant.”
True enough, Ol’ Amos was right.
The shaking in the ground intensified further and further. As trees broke and splintered, repulsive, savage-looking Underground Cave Magical Spiders with eight legs each and over a dozen meters long showed up one by one.
Their numbers were astonishing, and one couldn’t see till the end of them. They surrounded Meng Lei on all sides and thoroughly sealed off all his escape routes.
“Underground Cave Magical Spiders!”
The corners of Meng Lei’s lips quirked upward. “Are they here to send themselves to death’s door?”
Screech!
A sharp, ear-piercing cry suddenly rang out, and the Underground Cave Magical Spiders parted to make way.
Thud, thud, thud!
Amid deep, dull, and inseparably close thuds, a blood-red monster and taller than a 20-story building slowly walked in.
“Pinnacle-level Ninth-Grade Magical Beast, the Underground Cave Magical Spider Emperor!”
