Chapter 1035 - Second Time at the Dog Market

Just like always, Zhang Zian didn’t have much planned today and was just as free as a jobless man. It shouldn’t be too much of an issue for him to go to the dog market today. It was just a drive away, and he had a car.

But he couldn’t agree so easily. If he agreed the moment people suggested something, where should all his pride go?

If he couldn’t earn money at the dog market, then he at least had to gain some pride.

He pointed to the Merc G-class outside, asking a question he already knew the answer to. “That car’s yours?”

“Hm? Yeah.” Blackie nodded his head dumbly.

“I don’t mind bringing you to the dog market, but I want to drive.” Zhang Zian was determined to at least experience driving a luxury car. Driving wasn’t his motive, but instead, it was to take a few selfies in the driver’s seat, showing off the logo “unintentionally,” and then post it on his social media. Maybe some chick would be attracted.

Of course, he couldn’t hide his intentions from everyone else on site and the audience in the live stream, other than Blackie. Especially the audience; they couldn’t help but throw some sarcasm at him.

“Manager Weak Bird… I suggest you don’t try it. Girls now don’t take it that seriously, they might even think you’re a worker from a car wash…”

“That’s right! I think driving the Wuling Hong Guang MVP makes him look a lot cooler!”

“It’s his aura, he just doesn’t match up to the car. A weak man driving a strong car, just like a bear trying to raw the earth!”

Zhang Zian knew that the audience definitely had nothing nice to say, so he ignored them.

Blackie, still in the dark about the truth, brought out his key and threw it over, agreeing easily, “No problem.”

Vladimir, who was planning to leave at this time, went back to his original spot to lie down. Since Zhang Zian was going to the dog market too, he could just hitchhike, and he wouldn’t have to break his legs walking there.

Zhang Zian still had some things to finish first, and couldn’t leave immediately. It wouldn’t be appropriate for him to push everything to his employees to finish.

It was great that Snowy and Blackie were both not in a rush for time. Snowy stood behind Lu Yiyun, showing her audience the process of a professional artist’s artwork. Blackie gathered with the movie lovers by Famous. He didn’t know much about dogs, but he just listened in as the movie lovers commented, joining in the fun.

After finishing up all of his work, Zhang Zian waved his hand. “Let’s go!”

Vlamidir immediately bounced up, following behind them quickly.

Zhang Zian wasn’t too surprised to see it follow after them. Every time he went somewhere further, Vlamidir would always enthusiastically come with him, most likely to build his Meow Meow Branch Organization there.

Seated in the car, Zhang Zian was still a little pumped and made sure he took enough selfies from every single angle before finally turning on the car and driving towards the dog market. Blackie sat in the passenger’s seat. Snowy left Snowball back at the pet shop and sat in the backseat with Vladimir.

A luxury car was just different, and they had turned so many heads. He couldn’t help but feel that all of the beauties on the road were turning their heads back to look—of course, they might not be taking a second look at the car, but instead his sexy side profile. Mm, that must be it!

“Oh right, Snowy, I saw you in the Forbidden City recently when I went to the capital.”

After the excitement had worn off, Zhang Zian joked.

“Huh?” Snowy’s eyes widened in confusion. “I didn’t head to the capital, did you see that person wrongly?”

“I didn’t see ‘a person’ wrongly, but more like ‘a cat’ wrongly.”

Since they had nothing to do on the way to the dog market, he had just spoken about how he had met the stray Snowy.

“What a coincidence!” Snowy was surprised and elated. “I had been to the Forbidden City before, but all the houses seemed to be quite similar. It felt pretty boring, and I didn’t notice whether there were strays too.”

“That’s because strays don’t like to be around tourists. You can either go there really early, or walk away from the crowd, to the quieter palaces in the east and west to meet strays.” Zhang Zian told her what the Forbidden City staff had taught him. “Of course, if you could enter the restricted areas like me, you could find even more strays there.”

Snowy said that she was jealous, and she really was. When she went to the Forbidden City, she was only there to look at the scenery. She really didn’t think that there would be all kinds of strays in there, and even a cat that shared her name.

“The next time I go, I won’t come back until I take a photo with the stray Snowy!” she declared.

With the tales about the Forbidden City to pass the time, it felt like they were approaching the dog market not too long later.

Zhang Zian and Snowy had both been born and raised here, and they had been here before. So, they had chatted all the way here, and Zhang Zian was also focused on the situation on the road, making sure to not get into any accidents.

It was the first time Blackie had come to Binhai City, and the first time at a dog market too, so everything seemed new and interesting to him. Other than occasionally jumping into the conversation with a few words, he spent most of his time observing this unfamiliar city through the glass.

“Speaking of strays… Does Binhai City have a lot of strays?”

When there was a lull in Zhang Zian and Snowy’s conversation, he suddenly cut in with a question.

Strays had recently become a bit of a sensitive topic, due to the fact that the Holy Cat statue could always be linked to it.

Both Snowy and Zhang Zian paused.

“Quite a lot, why?” Snowy asked back.

Blackie pointed outside. “Look, there’s at least two or three stray cats no matter where we look… Strange, they all seem to be moving towards the same direction, did something happen?”

Zhang Zian slowed down the car, looking out the sides with Snowy.

Blackie wasn’t exaggerating. No matter where they looked, in the streets, or on the roofs, a few stray cats would enter their view. The strangest part was that they all seemed to be running in a common direction. They weren’t confined to roads like cars were, and they weaved in between the streets, going in a similar direction, the dog market, as quickly as they could.

“Weird, what are all these strays doing?” Snowy leaned her head onto the glass, muttering confusedly, “Is someone feeding them at a fixed time, so they’re all gathering there for food?”

There was a certain plausibility to her assumption, but the feeding must have been massive in order to attract this many strays. Unless it was an animal protection organization or a charity, a single person would most likely not be able to support feeding these many cats—unless they were filthy rich.

Zhang Zian hadn’t been to the dog market for a long time, and he didn’t dare to deny the possibility of her words. But according to the law of parsimony, Snowy’s explanation was way too complex and required too many prerequisites. There most likely was a simpler reason to explain all of this. There might be a simpler reason for all of these.

He looked at Vladimir through the rearview mirror. The reason for this huge gathering of troops might just be in the car.

Vladimir looked silently out the window, a half-smile on its features, softly murmuring, “A storm is brewing in the dog market, millions of cats coming to its rescue!”
