His lips formed into a smile at the thought of that. "What are you doing here, though? It's getting late; should I take you home?"

"I have something to ask you." She took a step closer to him and met his gaze squarely with a serious look. "It won't take long, so can you spare me a moment?"

While she sat waiting in the living room, the man brewed her a cup of tea and brought it to her. He then picked up an apple from the table and asked patiently, "Do you want an apple? I can peel it for you."

"Sure…" The woman smiled somewhat bitterly at him.

He, thus, sat by her side and started slowly peeling its skin.
