"In your dreams… I'm not giving the cigarette back to you… If I find out that you're smoking again, I'm going to…"

"What are you going to do?" Huo Mian laughed and asked Su Yu before he could finish his thought.

"Forget it. You're so omnipotent, no one can do anything to you, just get going…" Then, Su Yu turned around and went back into his room, while Huo Mian followed the waiter into Rick's office.

- VIP Room -

Su Yu carefully removed the cigarette from his ear and touched it carefully, unwilling to let go.

He remembered all of her words and movements just now; whenever he thought of her, his expression would immediately soften.

- The top floor of Seductive Fox -

Huo Mian was surprised that Rick asked to see her, since he always contacted Qin Chu directly. Therefore, on the way to his office, she wondered if something happened to her husband.

After going in, she saw Rick sitting on the couch and holding his phone, seemingly up to something. Upon seeing Huo Mian, he stood up. "You're here."

"Mhm."

"Have a seat first."

Huo Mian sat down and Rick's assistant immediately poured Huo Mian a cup of hot coffee.

"Did you speak with Qin Chu?"

"Yeah, we call each other every day." Huo Mian nodded.

"Did he tell you how dire the situation in T City is?"

"He didn't, but it was an easy guess, or else he wouldn't still be there," Huo Mian replied calmly.

"The truth is, Qin Chu and I have been investigating someone…" Rick slowly said.

"Huo Siqian?"

"Smart…" Rick nodded.

"Did you find anything?"

"I think he's controlling Jiang Linyue, but I don't know how they contact each other, they've been really discreet… The people I sent to tail Huo Siqian haven't gotten any useful information either."

"Will the problem be resolved if you find Jiang Linyue?"

"You can say that, we also need her to change her testimony to clear Qin Chu's name. We also need to know if the contractors in her stamped documents really participated in the forced demolition. That way, we'll find out if GK really participated, or if someone else did something so heartless and blamed GK for it. Qin Chu really cares about this accident… after all, five people died."

"Yeah, death is a big deal. I know he's been trying to deal with this incident."

"There are two things I wanted to talk to you about today."

"Go ahead." Huo Mian felt soberer as she looked at Rick, listening to him intently.

"One… you need to be cautious towards Huo Siqian."

"I've always been cautious."

"It's not enough… you probably have no idea how dangerous he really is… Overall, you really need to keep as much distance away from him as possible."

"I will." Huo Mian nodded; she knew Rick wouldn't say something like that for no reason. "What's the second thing?" she asked.

After a few seconds of silence…

Rick slowly asked, "I wanted to know… what's a good gift to give a girl on Valentine's Day?"

"Is it a present for your girlfriend Xixi?" Huo Mian laughed; she was shocked by how out-of-context Rick's question was.

Feeling shy, Rick nodded.

"Fresh flowers, of course. If she's your first love, then give her pink roses. If you are in your honeymoon phase, then red roses. If she's the love of your life, then blue roses. A rich man like you should at least buy 999 roses, right?"

"What else should I give her that'll make her happy?"

🙄🙄😑😑 Seriously Mian, I don't know what to say when it comes to you anymore. Look how that action of yours made Su Yu think about you even more…. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ So annoying.. And smart Rick? Anybody could figure that out.. *bitter towards Mian mode* 😂

Serious topic turns into comedy one

This was Rick's first time being in a relationship - he didn't know how to woo a girl, nor did he know what to give her.

Therefore, he idiotically gave Xixi a bank card that had a million yuan in it, but she threw it in his face…

Not all women liked being hit with money, but Rick didn't know that; to him, money was a great present, because she could buy anything she wanted to.

"You mean… you want to melt her heart with your sincerity?" Huo Mian seemed to understand what he wanted.

Upon hearing this, Rick nodded heavily; he looked at her with the eyes of an innocent child.

Huo Mian perfectly guessed what he wanted…

"I think you should do something you've never done before," Huo Mian suggested.

"Like that?"

"Like… cooking for her. Think about it… you're basically giving her your first time. But you need to do your homework and find out what she likes to eat. It's called 'catering to her pleasure'."

Rick nodded, digesting what she said, and replied, "Okay, I'll do that. Thanks, Huo Mian."

"No problem."

"If anything happens while Qin Chu's not here or if you need something done, just tell me…" Rick reminded her, and Huo Mian nodded. "I will."

"You should head back, your clients are still in the room."

"Oh, right, I have to go back…" Only then did Huo Mian remember that the Liu Couple was still inside the VIP room. Therefore, after her conversation with Rick, she headed right back…

She had a few more drinks and sang a few songs with them before concluding the schedule that night. She was going to go see her father-in-law at the hospital, but her head was spinning.

Bella said from the driver's seat, "Young Madam, I'll drive you home first."

"Okay."

Just as Bella was about to start the car, an ordinary-looking man walked up to them. Then, he said to Huo Mian, who was sitting in the passenger's seat, "President Su asked me to give this to you."

Then, before Huo Mian could say anything, that man left…

Huo Mian picked up the bottle he handed her - it was a drink that helped with sobering up and falling asleep.

This drink wasn't sold on the market yet, but it was a drink that Su Financial Bank developed that was only distributed amongst family and friends. It contained expensive nerve-calming Chinese medicines and was a precious existence in the wealthy circle…

Touched, Huo Mian realized that although Su Yu seemed careless, he could be incredibly diligent as well.

Opening the bottle, she took two giant swigs before leaning back on her seat. "Let's go, Bella."

"Yes, Young Madam."

Bella thought the Young Madam asked her to come so she could be the interpreter or drink for her. After all, many company executives asked their employees to do stuff like that.

However, Huo Mian did everything herself. When they were heading back, Huo Mian felt too tipsy and couldn't drive, so she was going to call a designated driver, but Bella was worried and therefore insisted on driving Huo Mian home.

She realized that the Young Madam was a good person who never acted pretentious because she was Qin Chu's wife. Moreover, she didn't treat her employees like they were just an asset.

Like President Qin, she respected and placed her trust in GK's employees.

Bella pressed a button in the car and music began to play…

It was Huo Mian's favorite song, Hotel California.

It was such a beautiful night, and Bella felt free of worry as she listened to this song. She glanced over at the Young Madam - her eyes were closed, and she looked like a kid.

Although she wasn't the most beautiful woman on earth, Huo Mian was easy on the eyes. The more Bella looked at her, the prettier she seemed.

Bella thought that President Qin indeed had a good wife… The Young Madam would set aside her own matters and help him whenever the company needed her.

She really did love her husband, didn't she?

The next morning, Huo Mian arrived at the company bright and early. The company was going to conduct a press conference at 9 AM explaining the scandal in T City. She and Qin Chu had come to this decision last night.

But just as she was about to head to the hotel… Yang suddenly called her.

"Young Madam, President Qin said to cancel the press conference."

"Why?" Huo Mian froze.

"15 minutes ago, Jiang Linyue was found dead in her apartment. President Qin was arrested by the police, and they're looking into this case as we speak."

"What?" Huo Mian felt like a strike of lightning had hit her on a sunny day; Jiang Linyue was dead, and Qin Chu was arrested pending investigation? Did… he have something to do with her death?

Wt the hell is dis one after one

(ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू) Here it comes everybody, the start of the storm.. HSQ, your the one who killed that woman aren't you? Damn, why are people pointing the blame on QC..

"How… did she die?" Huo Mian really wasn't prepared for this at all; although she disliked Jiang Linyue, she never wished for the latter's death.

That feeling of someone she knew dying spread to the bottom of her heart, giving her chills…

To Huo Mian, T City was an incredibly unsafe city, since Qin Chu's opponent was a devil who murdered people without blinking.

If the death of the family of five during the forced demolition was an accident, then Jiang Linyue's death was a deliberate act of murder… Moreover, the murderer had an obvious intention…

"Young Madam, don't worry, President Qin is still at the police station and I'm heading there right now. I'll update you when he's released."

"Okay, remember to keep me updated on the issue," Huo Mian said with worry.

- T City Police Bureau -

When Yang arrived, Qin Chu had just begun recording his testimony.

He was a powerful man of special status, so he wasn't locked up and interrogated in a small black room.

"Mr. Qin… where were you last night from 1 AM to 3 AM?"

"I was sleeping at the Marriott Hotel."

"Who was there with you?"

"My assistant, Mr. Yang."

"Did you ever leave the hotel?" the police asked.

"No."

"How can you prove that?"

"The hotel has surveillance cameras at the front and back entrance, so you would see me if I left. Feel free to bring up the footage from last night."

"The victim, Jiang Linyue died in her own apartment. When we found her, she had been dead for a while. According to forensics, she died between 1 AM and 3 AM last night from asphyxiation by a foreign object. We searched the entire apartment but couldn't find any clues related to her death… We looked into her social circle and noticed that she worked in your company."

"Yes, she's the general manager of our branch here." Qin Chu nodded.

"That's not important. Most importantly, the last text before her death was to you…"

"I never received a text." Qin Chu froze upon hearing what the policeman said; he really didn't get a text from her, so he was just as shocked when he heard that she was dead.

The police then took out a cell phone wrapped in a plastic bag.

"She didn't get the chance to send out this text, it's not even a complete sentence. It just says, 'President Qin'. Our assumption is that she wanted to tell you something."

"What did she say?" Qin Chu was curious.

"Just three words, 'President Qin, I…', but I guess we'll never know what she wanted to type…"

"Is there a chance that the murderer left this message on purpose to confuse you?" Qin Chu asked calmly.

"That's a possibility as well, but right now we only found the victim's fingerprints on the phone, so we don't know yet… we're sending the cellphone to the lab tonight to check for residual dandruff."

"Oh…" Qin Chu thought about it and nodded.

"Has this employee been behaving weirdly recently?" the policeman probed, and Qin Chu answered truthfully, "She betrayed the company and stole confidential material. She publicized those documents, defamed the company, and affected my reputation. I've been trying to get in touch with her, but my attempts had been unsuccessful."

"So, there was a conflict between the two of you, right?"

"Yes." Qin Chu nodded.

"So, there is probable motive to suspect you for murder…"

Yang went crazy before Qin Chu had a chance to respond. He glared at the police. "What are you talking about? President Qin was at the hotel with me all night, he didn't even have time to commit murder!"

Damn these police men are useless. QC was at the hotel he was with somebody. And that text message is very misleading, maybe she wanted to tell him the truth and apologize. We will never know. But what motive? He has none…🙄😑

creator, i think this chapter is too short…

"But he can order others to do it, he didn't have to do it himself."

"Watch your mouth, you're making false charges against President Qin!" Yang had never been more furious in his life; were the policemen here f*cking idiots?

How could they suspect President Qin?

Qin Chu pulled the corner of Yang's shirt. "Calm down and sit."

"But President Qin… they…"

"I told you to sit down."

Yang immediately sat down upon realizing that Qin Chu was mad.

"I understand why you're suspecting me… I'll cooperate with the police while you search for evidence, and I hope you can solve this case as soon as possible. I didn't want my employee to die either. After all, there are so many questions I still wanted to ask her. Her death is a burden on me as well."

"Okay, this case is currently our number one priority, we will solve it as soon as possible."

Although the police officers suspected Qin Chu, they didn't have enough proof to detain him. Therefore, he could go about his business and sleep in his own hotel room.

However, because of his current situation, he couldn't leave T City.

Things soon became more complicated than ever. That night, someone posted an article online titled, 'GK's manager was murdered, the young president is involved'.

The article was written in detail and explained how Jiang Linyue was investigated by GK because she had too many secrets on her hands. However, she mysteriously died and therefore, Qin Chu must be the culprit.

As soon as this article was posted, the media began sharing it and it quickly went viral.

More and more netizens began bashing on Qin Chu, immediately blowing Jiang Linyue's death out of context.

Qin Chu was busy the entire day and didn't get back to his hotel room until 8 PM that evening.

As soon as he went in, he sent Huo Mian a video request.

"Honey…" Huo Mian calmed down upon seeing her husband's face.

"Don't worry, Honey. I'm okay."

He always sounded so nonchalant, as if he could handle everything.

"How did Jiang Linyue die?"

"Asphyxiation."

"She suffocated?" Huo Mian was surprised.

"Mhm, apparently it was asphyxiation by a foreign object. There wasn't direct evidence, so the police didn't say what killed her. But I think someone suffocated her with a pillow, handkerchief, or something like that."

"This is terrible… I have a feeling that Jiang Linyue's murderer framed you to ruin your reputation."

"I feel the same." Qin Chu smiled.

"How can you still be smiling?" Huo Mian blamed Qin Chu.

"When I see your face, I don't care about anything anymore… really." The truth was, Qin Chu had been in a foul mood for the past few days. However, no matter how bad of a mood he was in, he always adjusted himself before video-chatting Huo Mian.

He didn't want the woman he loved to worry about him…

"Honey… when can you come back? I miss you." Huo Mian looked at Qin Chu's face, feeling heartbroken that he had lost weight.

"Soon… I'll head back as soon as I'm done here."

"Did you see that article from last night?"

"Don't worry about it. Someone's trying to make this incident a bigger deal than it is."

"Should we issue a statement?"

"No, the more we explain, the guiltier we'll seem. Time will prove everything."

"Honey… you need to be careful. Jiang Linyue's dead… this just proves how ruthless your enemies are. They're completely devoid of humanity and capable of killing people like they don't matter… I'm really worried about you," Anxious, Huo Mian reminded Qin Chu again and again.
