At the beginning, Mrs. Gu did have some hope in her heart.

In her mind, Gu Zhenkang had a space for her, so both Ruxue and Yunhe were his favorite children whilst Ms. Lin’s daughter could only be demeaned. However, Gu Zhenkang changed his attitudes towards Gu Chaoyan, just because she was the Princess Consort whilst Ruxue was only the Equal Princess Consort.

So she asked Gu Zhenkang to suck up to the bitch.

When Ruxue’s real identity as the Phoenix Girl was announced, Gu Chaoyan was definitely not going to steal her father away from Ruxue.

He was Ruxue’s father and he should love Ruxue only.

It was always miserable to get something and then lose it directly.

Mrs. Gu had a very proud smile as she looked at Gu Chaoyan.

Seeing Mrs. Gu’s indifferent look, Gu Zhenkang was not pleased. He tugged at her and suggested that she should behave properly too. Mrs. Gu turned around, saying nothing. Gu Zhenkang could not force her to do anything either.

Instead, he said, “Your Second Sister is marrying Lord Ling, so you should be home for the wedding. You are the lineal daughter and the Elder Miss of the Gu Mansion, so you need to back up your Second Sister. You don’t have much to do at Saint College, so you should stay at home for a couple of days. We have cleaned up your Qiong Pavilion, or you can move to the front yard if you want.”

Gu Chaoyan shook her head.

Gu Zhenkang might look flattering, but she did not believe that Gu Zhenkang was doing this because he treated her as the real daughter. He was doing this only because of Zhou Huaijin.

“I am staying at the Qiong Pavilion.” Gu Chaoyan answered, looking cold.

Gu Zhenkang was displeased inwardly… How dare this girl show arrogance in front of him, when he was doing everything for her sake? However, he did not dare to utter a word at all.

“I will ask Chen Fu to keep you company there.” He said coldly.

Gu Chaoyan nodded. Then they started to head towards the Qiong Pavilion.

Gu Zhenkang and Mrs. Gu remained, with Gu Zhenkang looking displeased.

“See, you are sucking up for nothing!” Mrs. Gu snapped ironically.

“What are you talking about? I am doing all of this for you guys, for the whole Gu Mansion!” Gu Zhenkang snapped.

Mrs. Gu snorted and left.

Gu Zhenkang pursed his lips and left too.

Gu Chaoyan did not hear their conversation. As she came back to the Qiong Pavilion, she saw the Pavilion had been cleaned up by someone before. With Qing gone, it must have been servants from the Gu Mansion that had done the cleaning.

Chen Fu said with a lowered head as he accompanied her to the Qiong Pavilion. “Elder Miss, you can walk in now, I will be off.”

“Hang on.” Gu Chaoyan took out a medicine bottle. “This is medical cream and it works well, you can use it if you want to.” Then she placed the bottle into Chen Fu’s hands.

Chen Fu was surprised. Obviously, he had not expected that Gu Chaoyan would offer him the medical cream.

His hands were shivering as he was holding the medical bottle. He looked at the medical bottle and then at Gu Chaoyan.

Tears gushed out of his eyes, and he looked very saddened. He mumbled. “I am sorry, Elder Miss, I am so, sorry.”

“Sorry?” Gu Chaoyan looked at Chen Fu with a searching look.

Chen Fu was the housekeeper, but he had never done anything evil. What was he sorry for?
