The wedding, which had been a dull affair in the first place, became even more dreadful after the chaos at the host table.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen a wedding like this…” Bai Xiaonian commented as she held up her glass of orange juice and took a sip. At that moment, the bride and groom were exchanging their vows and rings.

Bai Xiaonian pursed her lips and looked towards the stage. She found the sight of Gu Hanyan proclaiming ‘I do’ with teary eyes offensive.

Bai Xiaonian left the table in the middle of the ceremony to answer a call. When she returned, she said to Lin Nuan, “Will Fu Huai’an be fetching you from your house later?”

Lin Nuan raised her head and looked at Bai Xiaonian. “Yes… Why?”

She had arranged to meet Fu Huai’an at two p.m. It would be one p.m. when the wedding ended, and Lin Nuan intended to return home for a change of clothes and put on some light makeup.

“I will be running an errand nearby. You can have the car,” said Bai Xiaonian as she passed the keys of the Audi A4 to Lin Nuan.

Lin Nuan didn’t reach out for the keys. It was a short car ride from there back to her house, and Bai Xiaonian had to go to the hospital later. Lin Nuan didn’t want to hold her up.

Bai Xiaonian squinted her eyes at the sight of Wen Moshen helping Gu Hanyan to get down from the stage. She told Lin Nuan, “The wedding is over, I’ll leave now.”

“Alright,” said Lin Nuan as she placed her phone into her bag, “I’ll be leaving too after I have a few words with my brother.”

Lin Nuan had attended the wedding for the sake of Wen Moshen, but she was uncomfortable with the idea of toasting Gu Hanyan if the bride were to come around.

Lin Nuan was there to convey her congratulations and best wishes to Wen Moshen, but she didn’t intend to stay for long.

Across the T-shaped stage, Lu Jinnan spotted Lin Nuan getting up from her seat, but his attention was drawn to Bai Xiaonian’s slender and graceful figure.

Someone from his table saw Lu Jinnan gazing in Bai Xiaonian’s direction, sizing up Bai Xiaonian as she bid farewell to Lin Nuan. The person said, “That’s Bai Xiaonian, the morning news broadcaster of Haicheng television station. Tsk tsk… Most women have remarked that Bai Xiaonian looks seductive, I bet she will be sensational in bed. If Mr. Lu is interested in her, I can help to hook the two of you up!”

Lu Jinnan threw his cigarette butt into the ashtray and puffed out a trail of white smoke. He replied with a knowing look in his eye, “I don’t wish to trouble you, Mr. Xu…”

That meant that Lu Jinnan intended to achieve the conquest himself. The person nodded and answered tactfully, “Yes, of course, once Mr. Lu has set his sights on someone, he will surely be able to seal the deal!”

Bai Xiaonian went to the restroom before departing. When she came out of the restroom, she saw Wen Moshen smoking by the bin.

Wen Moshen had removed his white blazer and was decked in a white vest and shirt with white trousers and white leather shoes, and his tie had been unfastened and stuffed into his trouser pocket. He stood there with one hand in his pocket and his shirt collar wide open. Even though he didn’t have a single hair out of place, he still emanated a strong sense of decadence.

As Bai Xiaonian flung the water droplets from her hands, she saw Wen Moshen’s piercing gaze turn to look in her direction.

They were within close proximity, but Bai Xiaonian ignored Wen Moshen as he lifted his leg. When she brushed past him, Wen Moshen asked hoarsely, “Where is Nuan Nuan?”

Bai Xiaonian stopped in her tracks, clenching her damp fingers. She leaned her head and saw that Wen Moshen had put out his half-lit cigarette in the ashtray on top of the bin. Amid the white smoke, she could see that his expression was grieved and sorrowful.

She looked at the marble floor stained with cigarette ashes and blurted out without answering his question, “I meant to tell you something before you married Gu Hanyan.”
