She was around twenty-eight and soaking wet. Her long curly hair stuck to her face and slim body, making her look quite indecent.

Her makeup was smeared—yet her defined features were still visible underneath the mess.

She watched the scene inside the window, feeling a mix of desperation and hatred. She grasped onto her phone tightly and kept dialing the same number. All she heard was the same robotic and cold voice at the other end, saying that the number she called wasn’t available.

Lu Qili wanted to march to Fu Huai’an’s door and ring the doorbell to ask him why he fired her. What did she do wrong? She was the best in the company! And the only one who was the most devoted towards him!

Was it because of the woman next to him?

The conversation she had with Lu Jinnan in the office that afternoon kept replaying itself in her head…

“Lu Qili—we both know why Chief Fu has been generous to you these years. I suggest you enjoy it while you can and get out of here with the recommendation letter and pay Kaide gave you. You can still make a living elsewhere!”

“You want me to quit? Did Fu Huai’an tell you this, or is it just you who was a problem with me? If it’s him, then he should be the one telling me. But if it’s you, then sorry but I won’t be quitting!” Lu Qili was shaking all over, yet she still tried to talk calmly.

Lu Jinnan smirked and leaned on the table as he whipped out a cigarette. He lit it up and drew a deep breath, tossing the match in the ashtray. He scratched his head and said condescendingly, “You expect the official CEO of Kaide Corporation to write a withdrawal letter for some random sales head? How shameless are you?”

“I’m different to Fu Huai’an! Fu Huai’an sponsored me until I graduated—I got into Kaide for Fu Huai’an as well!” Lu Qili said in a pale face as she clenched her fists tightly.

Lu Jinnan flicked his cigarette and looked at Lu Qili with contempt. “There are loads of women he sponsored. Who do you think you are? There are way too many women who want to sleep with him because of his generous sponsorships. The only thing that separates you from them is that your cousin was Lu Xiangsi! We all know this is the only reason you have some right to be in Chief Fu’s sight!”

Lu Qili could feel herself losing her composure as Lu Jinnan ruthlessly exposed her.

“I heard Chief Fu’s assistant mention you once wore the exact same clothes as Lu Xiangsi and stripped yourself in the car. Yet he rejected you flat. Do you know why?”

The most private and embarrassing matter for a lady was exposed, and Lu Qili felt her eyes growing wet.

Lu Jinnan spat a puff of air from the cigarette in Lu Qili’s direction. He whispered in her ear, “Because, try-hards fall hard. At the end of the day, dogs are still dogs, even if they wear something glamorous. How could you put yourself and Lu Xiangsi on the same level?”

“You!” Lu Qili pointed at Lu Jinnan furiously.

Lu Jinnan grasped Lu Qili by her wrist forcefully, and Lu Qili cried tears of pain.
