MMORPG: Rebirth as an Alchemist

168 Millionaire Overnight

While every guild was busy organizing their registration and land, and the others were PKing their fellow players, a notification popped on their screen.

Some ignored it while some accidentally pressed it, and most were curious because it came from Arcadia's Auction House. Even though they knew that the past few items Auctioned there were only regular items. The rare equipment was either sold on the black market or equipped by the players.

But for big guilds, they have someone managing this kind of stuff and reporting it to the higher-ups. They made sure to check every notification and news, no matter how trivial it was.

And when they pressed the notification with little to no expectation, they did a twice over. Some blinked and rubbed their eyes while some stared at their screen in a daze before all of them jumped to their toes.

A SPELL BOOK!

A Spell Book was very rare since it could only be obtained by getting firstblood. It contained a spell that was unique to a class and one of a kind. It wouldn't be exaggerated to say that a single Sell Book would set you apart from all the millions of players. The reason why most used it right away.

So there was a big shock when that item appeared in the Auction House! They even questioned the sanity of the player who was willing to sell it.

Their shock was only temporary, and they immediately contacted their higher-ups. Some were already betting hundred of thousand until some rich guy bet a million. They had to act quickly before the seller decided to close the Auction after he was satisfied with the numbers.

Money could be earned back, but that [Spell Book] wouldn't even reach thousand in numbers in the whole of Arcadia.

----

Meanwhile, Ren's ears were ringing with notifications nonstop.

[Your Item SPELL BOOK has a NEW OFFER!]

[Your Item BASILISK SHIELD has a NEW OFFER!]

[Your Item PHANTOM's REVENGER has a NEW OFFER!]

The notification wouldn't stop until Ren got dizzy with the annoying sounds and turned it off. He then checked his items in the Auction and was stunned at what he saw.

[SPELL BOOK = 1 000 050 gil Highest Bid and counting . . .]

[Basilisk Shield = 10 025 gil Highest Bid and counting . . .]

[Phantom's Revenger = 12 550 gil Highest Bid and counting . . .]

Ren was surprised because it hadn't even been a second, and the price for the [Spell Book] had already reached a million!

How crazy was that?

Ren couldn't contain his laughter, and the NPC all looked at him weirdly.

He didn't care. He closed his screen and blocked all notifications from the Auction House. He'd wait until those numbers increased some more.

Whistling his way out of the building, Ren was thinking of what he would do. The Guild War would start next month since everyone was still busy organizing their base and members. So he couldn't offer his mercenary job to those guilds. At the same time, everyone was busy with guilds and PvP to go to dungeons.

There was a number restrictions in every dungeon, so he couldn't possibly attempt it alone. Besides, he was not in the mood to explore and grind.

Ren was thinking of what he would do next, but his mind only thought of buying that unit in Diamond Palace and nothing else.

Since everyone was still busy with the guild, Ren decided to give it some time and log off. He would ask Leonel to have dinner to celebrate being a millionaire overnight.

It was only before seven in the real world, and they had all night to rejoice.

The moment he got out of his Pod, it was that exact moment that Leonel's call registered on his phone.

The moment Ren picked up, Leonel's shouts strangled his ears, and he immediately took his phone away from his ears.

"Ren! Ren! My Account! My Account in the bank has millions! Am I dreaming?! I'm definitely dreaming! This will never happen in reality! Please come over and punch me and tell me that I'm not dreaming!"

"Leo . . ." Ren tried to calm his friend while laughing a little. "You're not dreaming. In fact, let's go out all night and celebrate at becoming a millionaire."

". . ." Leonel was silent for a moment before Ren was surprised when he burst into tears that he literary heard him choke.

"I – I can't . . . I can't believe it. I thought that this was all just a dream . . . Imagine how much money I have? I can buy a house. I can pay my tuition. I can even pay for my sibling's schooling, and my mother will finally acknowledge his son that he is not a failure."

Ren laughed a little and took a deep breath to contain his own emotions. He knew how Leonel felt. It was Relief. In the future, they didn't have to starve or stress about where to get money for shelter and food. They have money that only in their wildest dreams they could have, all thanks to COVENANT. And every possibility suddenly opened to them that wasn't there when they didn't have anything in their name.

"Don't rejoice just yet. Money disappears fast if you don't know what you're doing."

"R-right! But . . . I don't even know what to do with it. It's my first time having this much money in my hands."

"No worries. We'll go to a financial advisor and other experts to consult about this stuff. We can even ask Ragnar."

"Right! That man is managing a whole corporation! He would certainly know what to do with it!"

Ragnar only managed a certain part of that corporation since he still had other siblings and relatives. But Ren didn't bother correcting Leonel.

"Let's celebrate first. Let's go to an expensive steak house and enjoy all the expensive food," Ren said with a hint of excitement in his voice. They deserved that much.

"That's a good idea! Let's meet at your place! There are many delicious restaurants there than in my area."

After Ren and Leonel talked some more, they ended the call, and Ren waited for Leonel while he watched the news on his phone.

It was not only them who became millionaires overnight but others as well. This prompted everyone, youths, middle-aged, and even elders, to buy a Pod and try the game when they realized that they could make big bucks out of it.

But what they didn't know, it would be harder now after the update since the value of everything dropped significantly. The drop of a hundred gil per monster kill was now only at one or two depending on difficulty and ATP.

And because of the sudden surge of orders, the Pod became scarce once more. Good thing that Ren told Leonel to order his early.

While watching the news, Ren heard the doorbell ring, and he wondered why Leonel was so fast in reaching his place. Was he already on his way to him when they were still talking over the phone?

Ren already talked to the reception that he was expecting a friend and gave Leonel's complete name. The place welcomed visitors as long as he informed the lobby beforehand. And as long as Leonel had his identification card with him, there wouldn't be any problem.

Ren really thought that it was Leonel outside his door, only to be surprised that it was Roni's face peeking at his spyhole.
