MMORPG : Ancient WORLD
444 Siege
The situation at the fortress was much worse than Alex expected, as beside his regiment, only two more regiments came for help, their number barely crossing four hundred, with the total number of defenders barely reaching two thousand, making the enemy outnumber them two to one.
When Alex and his regiment reached the fortress, which they did so an hour and twenty minutes after the summon, the battle between the two forces for control was already at its peak.
There was no Major present to confront the enemy leader, but even if there was one, it wouldn't change the situation much as the enemy ranks held many more strong individuals on their side.
While the fortress soldier quickly informed Alex of incoming aid from Easkerton Keep within an hour, he understood that it was unlikely when he could see on the map that Easkerton Fortress was also under siege.
Alex knew that it was up to him to save the fortress, so he began thinking of a way to even the battlefield, knowing even if he took care of the enemy major, the chance of victory would be slim because of the overwhelming difference in the strength of the two sides.
Alex, with his regiment, engaged against the enemy group whose sole purpose was to keep them at bay while their main force breached through the defenses of the fortress and took control of it.
Alex knew that the enemy's sole focus for the time being was to conquer the fortress, but once the fortress fell, the full force of their firepower would turn against his and his ally's regiments.
At that moment, survival would be grim, offering little chance for meaningful resistance before they faced certain annihilation.
The fortress was located at the base of a towering mountain, protected from three sides, only leaving the front to defend, and with there being a unidirectional barrier in place that made attacks from inside leave without resistance and defended against outside attacks, so the fortress was not going down for at least another half an hour to fifty minutes.
So Alex knew he needed to do something to level the playing field in time, or his men would face death and a desperate retreat for survival, and while there was a chance of reinforcement coming, he harbored little hope for such a fortunate turn of events.
'I Can not create an avalanche as it will bury everyone. Taking out the captain won't do anything, even if I can get past the dozen of Sixth Rank captains by his side.'
'The same is true with using the majority of options available in the event shop,' Alex thought as he silently observed the event shop.
It was not that the event shop didn't have items available that could take out a decent sum of the enemy forces in a matter of minutes, but they were all expensive, as even the cheapest, the set of ten advance shock bombs, cost six hundred thousand points.
The advance shock bombs could be used to create an avalanche or even an intense earthquake, with intensity riveling an early Seventh Rank attack, but it will bring untamed destruction, doing more damage than good.
'A medium scale, Hailstone Cyclones, will cost me 800k while a Glacial Thunderstorm will cost 1.1 million, with the latter doing a much better job at doing serious damage,' Alex thought as he considered his options.
The third stage was all about the sacrifice of points, and while every time a player was in a place to use points, it also presented him with the opportunity to make his spent point and then some, but even in a perfect scenario, a mistake could lead to disaster.
The current scenario was the same, and it didn't matter if Alex spent a million or two, his tricks wouldn't do much harm to those who were strong among the enemy and would also leave the majority of the enemy standing, ready for battle.
So, while the things available in the event shop could make any situation easy, it still required the player's own means to win the battle or lose what he had invested, and that is what was happening for the majority of players.
Alex bought the Glacial Thunderstorm, giving him eleven scrolls, and swiftly began moving to place the eleven scrolls in a circle to cover the majority of the enemy forces.
As the final scroll came to life, all eleven scrolls began devouring the surrounding mana like hungry beasts, and mere moments later, a circular wall of wind that stretched toward the sky manifested, creating a barely visible barrier that cloaked around 80% of the enemy forces, trapping them within.
The sky erupted into a symphony of natural fury as dense clouds of white billowed and roared, punctuated by pulses of lightning and furious gusts of wind that made it appear the sky was being torn open.
A wave of panic swept through the enemy ranks as they felt the chilling winds intensify, carrying with them a freezing bite that seemed to grow stronger by the moment.
In their panicked state, the disciplined lines faltered as soldiers scrambled to escape the confines of the wind barrier that was seemingly keeping the growing disaster from leaving its confines, and witnessing their comrades easily exit the seemingly impenetrable barrier only fueled their panic further.
The enemy troops were sandwiched between the icy walls of the two towering mountains, so the only escape was to the front into the wolly of attacks raining down on them by the fortress defender or back out and struggle for space with their own people.
So the escape was far from an option, and panic and horror-
filled cries grew only to be drowned under the raging storm that had grown to take the shame of a massive storm of wind, snow, and lighting stretching for close to four hundred meters in width and two hundred meters in length.
"Young Master, How, How did you?" Cleutos, The assassin, asked, his words broken by his overwhelming shock.
"I will take care of the enemy commander," Alex said, seeing that all three captains under his command had rushed to his side, and after hearing his wild statement, their collective reaction was one of disbelief.
"I know it's hard to believe, but I will show you," Alex said, knowing in their eyes he was just a Fifth Rank individual with a good brain on his shoulder and many tricks up his sleeve.
"This attack will undoubtedly cause the enemy to lose at least a tenth of their forces, with many more severely injured, and this presents the perfect chance to strike them with full force."
"Coordinate with the other regiment commanders to block their retreat path and crush them with a pincer formation," Alex uttered as he watched the towering tornado of icy wind and lightning reach its peak state, destroying the land and surrounding mountain walls and devouring the heavy chunks of ice to grow in size.
"Do you guys need an invitation from the enemy to attack?" Alex questioned, seeing all three commanders and his two attendants standing with their eyes shifting between him and the ongoing storm.
"Young Master, " Cleutos uttered but stopped seeing Alex calmly walk ahead toward the lines of the adversary who stood with surprise and fear evident in their eyes.
