Medical Master

Chapter 924 - The Medical Conference Will Be Postponed

“What do you think about it? Is it okay?”

Chen Xiaogang and Zhao Rulong immediately asked after seeing that Fang Qiu finished reading the script.

“Well, not bad,” Fang Qiu nodded.

He was very satisfied with the plot of the script, which showed the righteousness of the young Yang Yizhi.

“When I just finished it, I’m very confident in it, but now, I think I should make some changes to it.”

Getting Fang Qiu’s recognition, Zhao Rulong smiled with satisfaction. He looked at He Gaoming and the others before saying, “This script is created based on the work of Eighth Master Li’s team. I didn’t expect that the martial arts instructor you brought over could make the action part so wonderful. Since I’ve seen this, I must go to talk with them and make some changes to the script.”

“Okay.”

Fang Qiu nodded.

He knew that the script had been almost completed, and they just needed to make some changes to the action part and how it would be shown. These changes would only improve the quality of the script, so Fang Qiu was not worried about it.

“Mr. He.”

Chen Xiaogang immediately shouted at He Gaoming after talking to Fang Qiu. Then, he beckoned He Gaoming to come over.

“What’s the matter, Director Chen?”

He Gaoming walked over, put his arm around Fang Qiu’s shoulder, and asked with a smile.

“Oh, the screenwriter is looking for you.”

Fang Qiu glanced at He Gaoming, pulled his hand off his shoulder, and said, “The script of the movie has been finished, and I think it’s good, but your performance is so wonderful that the screenwriter wants to talk to you and see if he can improve the quality of the script.”

“No problem.”

He Gaoming immediately nodded and said, “This is my duty to perform my part well. Mr. Zhao, if you have any question to ask me, just say it and I’ll tell you whatever I know.”

“Thank you.”

Zhao Rulong nodded with a smile.

“I also have something to say,” Chen Xiaogang chimed in. “Although there is still some time before the start of the shooting, we need to make the best use of our time to design some wonderful martial moves. This will also make the shooting more efficient.”

“Okay. We’re free these days, so we’ll stay here as long as you can provide food and accommodation for me and my crew,” He Gaoming agreed readily.

“Of course. Shall we start now?”

Zhao Rulong took He Gaoming’s hand and walked aside hurriedly. Then, they began to talk.

“Can I leave now?” Fang Qiu asked after He Gaoming and the others left.

“Yes,” Chen Xiaogang nodded and hesitated for a moment before adding quickly, “but I have one thing to discuss with you.”

“What is it?” Fang Qiu asked curiously.

“Your remuneration.”

Chen Xiaogang laughed and said, “I was planning to spend a day discussing it with you, but judging from what you said just now, you may not have that much time for me, so I decided to discuss it with you right now. I think it’s better to talk to you face to face since you don’t have an agent.”

“Okay,” Fang Qiu nodded.

“I’ve thought about it. Though you don’t have much experience in this industry, you’re as popular as an A-list star, so we’re thinking about paying you 15 million yuan as your remuneration. What do you think?” Chen Xiaogang asked with a smile.

Chen Xiaogang was telling the truth.

An A-list start would get at least 10 million yuan for playing a role in a movie. Though Fang Qiu didn’t have much experience in this industry, he was even more popular than some A-list stars. Besides, he just performed at the New Year’s Gala and his popularity was still growing. Thus, 15 million yuan was a reasonable number and even lower than what he deserved.

“I’m okay with that.”

Fang Qiu agreed without hesitation since he didn’t make a living by that.

“Good.”

Chen Xiaogang laughed and said, “I have already drafted up the contract. Would you like to take a look now?”

With that, Chen Xiaogang took out the contract he had prepared in advance.

Fang Qiu didn’t bother to read it himself. He called He Xue, who had just returned to Huaxia, sent a picture of the contract to her, and asked her to have someone check out the contract.

He Xue received the contract at the cultivation base in Beijiang and read it. She was surprised to find that Fang Qiu could earn 15 million yuan from playing a role in a movie.

“Earning 15 million yuan in a month? Does he earn so much by making movies?” He Xue murmured in surprise.

She had the staff of the legal department check the contract carefully.

After making sure that there was no problem with the contract, she called Fang Qiu.

“How is it?” Fang Qiu picked up the phone and asked directly.

“I’m sure that there’s nothing wrong with this contract.”

Curious, He Xue added, “I’m curious about one thing. You’re famous now, and the remuneration is reasonable. But why would you accept a fixed remuneration? You could have asked for a share of the final earnings of the movie, and you will earn a lot.”

“Well, I don’t make a living by that.”

Fang Qiu smiled and said, “Besides, this is my first cooperation with Director Chen, so I’ll just take it as a chance to make friends with him.”

“How could you miss such a good opportunity to make fortune? You fool!” He Xue complained.

“If there’s no problem with the contract, I’m hanging up,” Fang Qiu replied with a smile and then hung up.

“So you have an agent team?”

After Fang Qiu hung up the phone, Chen Xiaogang asked curiously, “Why didn’t you bring them with you?”

“No, it’s just a friend,” Fang Qiu replied.

“I see.”

Chen Xiaogang nodded his head in understanding.

“The contract is fine. I’ll sign it right now.”

After saying that, Fang Qiu found a pen and signed his name on the contract that Chen Xiaogang had prepared beforehand.

After that, he said, “If there is nothing else, I’m leaving now. I’ll come back on time in ten days.”

“Okay, have a nice journey.”

Chen Xiaogang waved goodbye to Fang Qiu and even specially had a staff member see Fang Qiu off.

“Beep, beep, beep…”

On the way back to the capital from Yanqi Shooting Base, Fang Qiu’s cell phone in his trouser pocket suddenly rang.

The phone call was from Xu Miaolin.

Fang Qiu took out his phone and when he saw the caller ID, his heart suddenly skipped a beat. He was a little flustered and had a bad foreboding.

“Hello?”

Without hesitation, Fang Qiu answered the phone.

“Fang Qiu.”

Xu Miaolin’s voice came from the other end of the line. “I just got the news that the medical conference won’t be held in advance and it’s unlikely that it will be held on time. Possibly, it will be postponed for two years!”

“What?”

Fang Qiu’s mind went blank after he heard this. He was stunned and couldn’t control his feelings. “Why?” he asked in a tone of shock and anger.

Xu Miaolin knew why Fang Qiu would react like that. He also knew that Fang Qiu had been looking forward to the medical conference and his body condition was fine now. However, since Fang Qiu had spent so much time studying Chinese Medicine and been working hard to become a highly-skilled doctor, he must have his reasons. Besides, the symptom Xu Miaolin found from Fang Qiu could be of those who had a close relationship with him even if it was not Fang Qiu’s.

Therefore, Xu Miaolin called Fang Qiu as soon as he heard the news.

Because he knew that Fang Qiu wanted to attend the medical conference eagerly, Xu Miaolin was not angry at Fang Qiu’s reaction. Instead, he replied in a gentle tone, “It’s because of your book, Chinese Medicine in Human Body.”

“What do you mean?”

Fang Qiu was dumbfounded.

“Because of my book, the medical conference will be delayed for two years? How could this be? Why?” he wondered.

“You may not know it yourself.”

Xu Miaolin sighed softly and continued, “As I said, once your book is circulated on the market, it will inevitably cause a sensation in the whole Chinese Medicine circle. You don’t know how attractive your book is to those highly-skilled doctors!

“Now, all the highly-skilled doctors in the country are studying your books. The medical conference is postponed to give those highly-skilled doctors enough time to study your book thoroughly. Only after they study your book thoroughly can they communicate more efficiently in the conference.”

Fang Qiu was stunned in an instant after hearing the words.

A bitter expression appeared on his face.

“I shouldn’t have written this book!”

Grinding his teeth, Fang Qiu unconsciously clenched his fists tightly and said with remorse, “How I wish it would only be postponed for half a year.”

“Don’t be too upset.”

Xu Miaolin frowned after hearing Fang Qiu’s words of remorse and said immediately, “As I said, it’s just possible; it’s not certain. A poll will be held in one month and a half to decide when to hold the conference, and by then, we’ll know if the conference will be postponed or not. Let’s wait patiently for further news.”

“Can you persuade them into holding it on time?” Fang Qiu asked through clenched teeth.

“I’ll try but it’ll be difficult.”

Xu Miaolin shook his head and continued, “Because they’re not just facing you. Though your medical skills and talent have attracted their attention, they are experienced doctors and would think differently from ordinary people. For them, they would rather postpone the conference and improve their medical skills than meet you now for discussion.”

“A doctor should have a kind heart.”

Xu Miaolin sighed softly and said, “You know what they would choose so as to save more people. After all, no one would break the rule in the industry.”

“I see.”

Fang Qiu gritted his teeth tightly, opened his mouth wide, and took a deep breath, trying to calm down. However, he couldn’t help gritting his teeth again as he said, “I’ll wait for further news.”

“Good.”

Xu Miaolin nodded and said, “Don’t be upset. There is still hope as long as the thing hasn’t happened. If those doctors could study your book thoroughly in one month and a half, the conference may be held on time.”

“Okay, I see.”

Fang Qiu nodded, closed his eyes slowly with a tired look on his face, and hung up the phone.
