235 Aftermath
While the Hightown was in a state of chaos, two figures soared across the vastness of the world, enveloped in green light.
"Ngh!" Reinhardt groaned and grabbed Ambrose by his throat. "Where are we going?"
"Ngggh!" Ambrose gasped for air, struggling to speak.
They couldn't see the outside world because of the ball of green light surrounding them, but they were aware that they were moving extremely quickly.
It even made Reinhardt dizzy, but unlike Ambrose, he could move his head around and speak.
The wind rushed in, drowning out his attempts to shout to Ambrose.
"Cursed!" Reinhardt screamed into the howling wind.
The green light continued to fly far into the horizon, flying across mist-covered waters.
...
Bella stood up from the ground, holding her right shoulder, which was missing an arm.
After seeing Ambrose disappear, Leprechaun screamed in frustration.
'Where did they go.' Serenity frowned and only remembered Ambrose shouting "Somewhere far, far away."
"Boss." Glowstar walked over to Cerberus, still holding the wooden puppet made of Death Oak, and handed it over to him. "Here."
Cerberus took it silently and tossed it inside his inventory.
"Do you think he was planning this?" Mizuchi walked over, his cheek having a massive bruise as he had been punched by Reinhardt earlier.
"You mean his promise to me was bullshit and that he always planned this kind of ending?" Cerberus asked and saw him nod.
Cerberus chuckled and shook his head. "He ain't that smart. That was an act of desperation."
A small distance away, Olympos, who was hiding behind a corner, chuckled and glanced at his friends.
"He escaped; what a coward, right?"
89John rolled his eyes and thought. 'A sad ending. I thought it would be easy to defeat that katana guy, but to think he was that strong. I guess the plan is now scrapped, shame.'
...
Back in the cemetery, the wagon driver fast-walked over to the wagon and saw that it was empty.
He almost cried and touched his balding head.
"T-those fools forgot to do the salting!" He then looked at the sky and was grateful that it was already morning.
He happened to sleep through the entire night without any disturbance and was unaware of what had happened, but then he heard discussions from shopkeepers about the sudden zombie outbreak.
Tap, tap—suddenly, he heard metallic footsteps coming behind him.
He turned around, and to his surprise, there were five well-armored guards approaching him.
"You!" One of the guards pointed at the wagon driver. "You're coming with us for questioning."
"I-I am sorry, it was an accident!" The wagon driver threw his arms up in the air. "I really didn't know that those fools forgot to do the salting!"
"You should've made sure!" The guard screamed and slammed the butt of his sword into the gut of the wagon driver.
The wagon driver slouched over, gasping for air.
"You are the reason for the deaths of countless innocent civilians!" The guard said angrily and looked towards the abandoned-looking church with a sympathetic look. "The priest and his parishioners were first to perish."
The wagon driver's eyes shook, and tears streamed down his face as he realized the extent of the tragedy that had occurred.
"Take me..." He whispered, his voice trembling with grief and shock.
The guard scoffed, put shackles on the wagon driver, and led him away.
...
At the mayor's house.
"It's dawn..." He whispered emotionally and looked at the last sunrise of his life.
After several heartbeats, he heard the sound of footsteps coming from the hallway.
"Hah..." The mayor chuckled darkly. "I did my best; I truly did. I should've never borrowed money from him, especially knowing what he was capable of."
Unfortunately, he couldn't change the past and now had to face the consequences of his actions.
Slam—the door swung open, and he turned to it, expecting to see the blood-red eyes glowing in the darkness, but shockingly, he saw his wife standing there, tears running down her face.
"W-why are you here?" He shouted with shock flashing through his eyes. "He will be here soon; why did you come back!"
"You fool..." She whispered before lunging towards him and embracing him tightly. "You fool!"
"W-what?" The mayor whispered with a stunned expression, feeling the warmth of his wife's embrace.
"Sir." Then, a guard appeared in the doorway, not wanting to interrupt the reunion of husband and wife, but there were some urgent things that had to be done.
"What is it?" The mayor asked.
The guard sighed and told him about the battle that had occurred and how it ended.
Neither of them knew who the black-haired young man was, but somehow he managed to save the town from destruction.
No one knew where he and the red-eyed devil were currently, but for now, the town was safe.
"Also, the Red Inquisitors have arrived." The guard said. "They are waiting for you in your office."
"Red Inquisitors, why are they here?" The mayor asked in shock and then left his wife's embrace, but not before planting a kiss on her forehead and whispering that he would talk to her later.
The mayor then left the room, rushed down the hallway, and soon arrived in the office.
After opening the door, he saw five red-robed figures standing around the office.
One of them was browsing through the bookshelf, the other was sitting at the desk, and the other three were engaging in conversation.
"Mayor of the Hightown, it's a pleasure." The Red Inquisitor sitting on the desk crossed his legs and smiled. "I heard that you had some zombie problems here; I hope everything is alright."
"Lords." The mayor bowed, acting extremely humble. "May I ask, why have you come?"
"I heard that some vampire had managed to stumble upon your small town." The Red Inquisitor, who was browsing through the bookshelf, said. "Of course, we would keep track of such a dangerous individual."
'They sure didn't hurry to come here, even though the whole town was in danger.' The mayor thought, but he kept those thoughts deep inside his mind.
He was, however, certain that the Red Inquisitors wouldn't move a muscle even if the town was erased from the face of the planet.
"Tell us what happened." The Red Inquisitor commanded.
The mayor nodded and began recounting the things that he heard from the guard, ending with Ambrose and Reinhardt disappearing into green light.
"Hmm, does that black-haired young man look like this?" One of the Red Inquisitors pulled out a wanted poster, showing a sketched image of a young man.
"Uhm, I am not sure. I was not there when it happened." The mayor said with a regrettable look.
"That's fine." The Red Inquisitor folded the wanted poster and stored it inside his pocket. "We already knew it was him."
"Hmm, Ambrose, the Black Demon, is working with Reinhardt, the Red Devil. Hahaha, I wouldn't expect anything less from scum." The Red Inqusitor on the desk laughed.
"Working with?" The mayor frowned. "From what I heard, this Ambrose actually fought against Reinhardt and saved the town from destruction!"
"That is just an act!" The Red Inquisitor waved his hand lazily. "Reinhardt was aware of us tracking him, so he must've worked with Ambrose to trick us and make it seem like there was a fight.
"Then, coincidentally, he used the teleportation pearl to escape, both of them as well!
"Ambrose has already been reported to be a dangerous individual with the potential to do great harm. I wouldn't underestimate him, mayor."
"Huh?" The mayor frowned. 'That doesn't make a lick of sense. Why act like they were fighting?'
Seeing that look, one of the Red Inquisitors chuckled. "Of course, they don't want us to know that they are working together. So, if they fought, it would obviously seem like a coincidence.
"We don't know what their plan is or what they are planning to do in the future, but we must consider them a great threat from now on."
"I am sure you have a lot of things to do, mayor." The Red Inquisitor on the desk stood up and tipped his red top hat. "We shouldn't keep you occupied any longer."
The mayor nodded, and as the Red Inquisitors walked out of the office, he turned around and asked.
"What are you planning to do with Ambrose?"
"He is a threat." The Red Inquisitor smiled and turned back to the mayor. "With an increased bounty, we will ensure that he is captured and brought to justice."
