Manaless Mage

53 Recklessness is equal to trouble

Just then, he sensed a sudden amount of mana behind Dan. His eyes widened slightly as he realised. 'Don't tell me he is actually chanting a spell…' Han panicked.

The grin on Dan's face widened as he immediately stretched out his hand.

"Wind blade!" He screamed. The wind gathered around his hand immediately merged together, forming a thin line that was about 50cm.

The thin 'blade' immediately shot towards Han. It wasn't completely visible to the naked eye and could only be perceived as a dull white line.

Han didn't waste any time as he stretched out his hands, he immediately chanted the first spell that came to his mind.

"Hand of flames!" He screamed moments before the fast-moving wind blade got to him.

His hands visibly hardened, turning into a dark red colour. Flames erupted from his wrists climbing all the way down to his fingers.

Han immediately swiped at the wind blade using all the strength and power he could muster.

Due to the force at which he swiped at it, the wind blade was redirected away from him. It broke into two and then slowly dispersed.

The flames around Han's fingers slowly died down as his fingers reverted to their normal appearance.

No damage was done to his uniform even though his hands were literally covered in flames seconds ago.

This was due to the defensive properties of his uniform. The elite uniform was made using materials from mana beasts, it was very elastic and could also absorb damage quite well.

A frown appeared on Han's face as he stare at Dan. If he hadn't blocked that attack at the last second, he would have gotten injured.

The only saving grace he had was his spell casting speed. Though his mana core had regressed, his spell casting speed was still faster than that of an average stage one Elementalist.

"Hmm… I had my doubts before but now I'm sure of it, you really got weaker." Dan said with a smirk.

Han gritted his teeth in frustration, the last person he wanted to find out about his current weakness was Dan. "You know it's against the academy… to attack another student right?" Han asked.

"Don't tell me you believe that bullshit… besides, who would care if two elite student get into a quarrel." Dan scoffed. "Or what, you're gonna tell the instructors? Guess you're more of a pussy than I thought you were."

The frown of Han's face got deeper when he heard the grey haired student's words.

No matter how he wanted to deny it, he knew he couldn't. There was no way he would report this to the instructors, his pride wouldn't let his do that.

"Besides it was only a tier one spell." Dan continued. Wind blade was a lower version of the tier two spell 'wind slash'. Compared to the latter, the strength and power was a lot less weaker.

"Accept my duel Han… or I'll make your life in the academy a living hell." Dan said. He then turned around and left, leaving Han to his thoughts.

Han clenched his fists tightly as he watched Dan's figure slowly get smaller. Although, he had already expected himself to be in this type of situation sooner or later, it still frustrated him to the core.

[Just as I expected, it couldn't hold it.]

Harry's brows furrowed when he heard the other voice words. He didn't need to think too much before he understood what the other voices meant.

He knew his energy was more powerful than mana and he had already expected that the crystal—and perhaps some other low ranked artefacts—might not be able to hold his energy.

It was why he only channeled a minuscule part of his energy into the crystal, however what he didn't expect was that such little energy would be too much for the crystal to hold.

'You should have at least told me…' Harry said to the other voice. Ever since he registered as an Elementalist in the academy, he main plan was to try to draw as little attention as possible.

Luckily, the academy kept the information about his affinities secret so he didn't really attract much attention among other students.

However, with what just happened, he was sure to attract attention.

'So if it can't hold it, how am I supposed to pass this class?' Harry asked the other voice. Though he was mad at the other voice for withdrawing such crucial information,

The condition of his crystal unexpectedly caught the instructor's attention. He slowly approached Harry while staring at the broken crystal pieces on the ground.

"That's weird…" The instructor couldn't help but comment. He had already checked the condition of all the crystals before giving them out to the students, he was quite sure that none of them had any problem.

He stared at Harry for a few seconds before using his mana sense on the crystal.

'It's probably a problem with the runic structure.' He thought. His mana sense couldn't detect any fault in the crystal, besides this wasn't the first time a situation like this happened.

Although the crystals were very durable, they were only low rank artefacts so they didn't exactly last forever. One crystal could only remain durable for about three years.

The runic structure would gradually get weaker over time, it was similar to the way food stuffs expired. Cracks would appear on the surface whenever it 'expired'.

However, no matter how he looked at the situation, it was still strange. In this case, the crystal didn't just crack, it completely shattered into pieces…

Though the crystal he gave Harry was quite old when compared to ones he gave the other students, he was sure that it should still take a few months before it expired.

"You shouldn't worry… it's probably because it's expired and weak." He said to Harry before packing all the broken pieces into his storage device.

'I need to be more careful…' Harry thought. 'Being reckless would bring nothing more then trouble for me.'
