Manaless Mage
19 Magic spell overload
He started muttering some strange words, his voice slowly getting louder as he chanted the spell. His veins were bulging and his eyes also started turning bloodshot from the extreme pain that coursed through his veins.
Harry paused in his steps, he still hadn't gotten a notification from the system about the quest completion. It shouldn't take this long, after all, he did complete the quest… or did he?
A frown appeared on his face as he turned around. As soon as he turned back, he saw Han, who was shakily standing with bulging veins and bloodshot eyes. Han had a crooked smile on his face as he stared at Harry.
Harry widened his eyes in shock, he wasn't expecting Han to take things this far.
He wasn't the only one in shock though, gasps could be heard from the crowd of students around them. Some of them subconsciously took a step back in fear, No one could have guessed that Han would use magic spell overload just to get back at Harry.
Regardless of their tier, all spells required a specific amount of mana for them to be cast successfully.
Mana could only be infused into a spell up to a certain minimum and maximum amount. A spell wouldn't work if the amount of mana contained or used on it was less than the minimal amount.
The term "magic spell overload" referred to when a spell had more mana than is necessary.
Although utilizing this approach would significantly boost the spell's power, it came at a very price.
The extra mana forcefully drawn from the mana core in an attempt to overload a spell would be permanently lost, which might result in a decrease in the mana core stage.
Additionally, it might exert too much pressure on the mana core, rupturing it and rendering the user incapable of storing or drawing mana.
All of a sudden, Harry felt his skin crawl and his body's cells tingle with anxiety.
The aura emanating from Han gave off an ominous feeling, and Harry felt his instincts scream danger at him.
"Flaming Arrow!!!" Han shouted, his body bent slightly to the side as he positioned his hand as if to make a throw. A small arrow coated in flames appeared above his outstretched palm, the size rapidly grew as it became about five feet long.
However, Han didn't waste too much time as he immediately launched the spell. The flaming arrow followed his movements as it also flew towards Harry with immense speed. Its size grew with every passing second as it closed in on Harry.
Harry's eyes widened, both in shock at the flaming arrow's speed and in fear for his life. He knew he couldn't let that get to him so he immediately used his best agility-based skill. ' Lightning da—'
But before he was able to complete the skill activation, a massive wall purely made of earth suddenly rose from the ground between him and Han.
BOOM!!!
Han's overloaded spell struck the earth wall with full force, filling everyone's ears with a loud, exploding sound.
Harry looked at the huge earth wall in front of him with different expressions flashing through his eyes. It was as if the earth wall was teleported in front of him, he wasn't able to sense it or follow its speed. Even if he had activated accelerate, the result would be the same, the speed at which the wall erupted was just too fast for him to react to.
'That's probably one of the instructors,' Harry thought. 'Their casting speed is still too fast for me to follow.'
The wall finally went back into the ground, leaving no trace of its former existence.
"What the hell is going on here?!!" A loud voice rang in the ears of all the students, now that the earth wall wasn't there to obstruct their view, they could all see who stopped Han's fiery arrow.
Standing a few meters away from Harry, was a bald man, he was quite tall with a height of about 1.7m. He had a face that looked rather rough, had deep black eyes, and appeared to be in his late forties.
His expression was stone cold as he stared at all the students gathered around the academy compound, silently etching their faces to his memory.
All the students felt cold sweat drip from their backs as they stared at the cold and indifferent eyes of the instructor.
They had all heard of the cold and indifferent instructor of the earth element hall—Instructor Leon. He was known to give the most brutal punishment to students who go against the academy's rules.
Some of them even tried to escape, only to find their legs glued to the ground and covered with earth. They could only accept their fates, blaming it on their stupid decision to watch the 'little show' Harry and Han were putting on for them.
As for Harry, he simply looked at the instructor without a hint of fear in his eyes. He didn't know why but he wasn't affected by the pressure the instructor was intentionally releasing on the students.
Instructor Leon was a stage five Elementalist, which was why Harry was slightly surprised that he wasn't affected by the pressure of someone with a stage four mana core.
He felt that it was related to the system or to him being a Manaless mage so he didn't put much thought into it—he planned on asking the system more about it later.
Harry's eyes turned to Han, a strange glint flashed through his eyes as he realized something. 'I got too complacent… I could have exposed myself if not for instructor Leon's appearance.'
He truly underestimated Han, he didn't even consider the possibility of Han using his fire element. Although he could overpower Han with his physical stats alone, It would be a different story if Han used his tier two spells(his fire element spells).
To make matters worse, he completely ignored Han's existence by turning around without being sure of his victory… something that could cost him his life.
Han had never used his fire element when bullying him. He always used his earth element which was actually the weaker one—Han only used his stronger element when facing powerful Elementalists.
This was because Han was trying to avoid killing any student by mistake. Due to how powerful tier two spells were, one of them was enough to kill an ordinary person or a weak Elementalist.
Although the academy ignored the bullying among students, it was a different case for the death of students. Killing on the academy grounds was frowned upon and could lead to not only expulsion but also arrest by the AMO.
Harry wasn't ready for the world to find out he could use 'spells' yet, just the imagination of the barrage of questions he would be asked made him cringe. So he was inwardly grateful that an instructor showed up on time. 'I would never make this mistake again.' He thought.
