The dilapidated building reeked of corruption everywhere.

Trash was piled in front of every door, and the wooden stairs creaked.

Qiu Tong followed the old gangster’s directions and found the room. She looked down at the GPS on her phone and saw the flashing red dot.

The man who had attacked Ye Luan was squatting behind the door. He was holding a cup of instant noodles, drinking tea and chewing on a stale steamed bun.

A phone placed on a paint bucket vibrated. He glanced at it and cursed before opening the message. “Damn you! You are paying me so little but I almost got arrested by the police. If you don’t raise the price, I’ll do this business with others!”

Qiu Tong took a step back when she heard the voice coming from inside. She then raised her leg and kicked open the ajar door.

The man’s mouth was still half full when he finally read the message on his phone. His eyes widened in shock.

He threw his instant noodles to the ground and tossed the paint bucket towards Qiu Tong. He turned around and wanted to jump out of the window.

The man was clinging onto the railing with both hands. Before his other foot stepped onto the windowsill, Qiu Tong had already grabbed his collar and dragged him back onto the ground.

“I’ll fight you to the death!”

Seeing that he could not escape, the man took out a foldable knife from his pocket and made stabbing motions.

Qiu Tong dodged and her waist hit the corner of the table. She gasped in pain.

The gangster used to belong to a criminal gang. He was timid by nature and would hide in a corner during gang fights. He had never tried to attack anyone with a knife before.

His movements were stiff as he brandished the foldable knife. Qiu Tong took advantage of the situation and struck his abdomen with her elbow, snatching the weapon.

Bang bang—Qiu Tong punched his head twice. The gangster fell to the ground and lost consciousness for several moments.

When he opened his eyes again, Qiu Tong had tied his limbs to the bench.

The gangster saw Qiu Tong rummaging around and whimpered. “Who the hell are you?”

“Please do me a favor. I’ve never committed arson or murder!”

“If not for the fact that I can’t survive, who would want to hide in a place like this and live such a dark, shameful life?”

The gangster begged for mercy as he shifted his body, his feet making contact with the bench. Qiu Tong looked at him coldly. “Who sent you?”

“Which matter are you referring to?”

The gangster instinctively asked in return. Seeing Qiu Tong frown, he hurriedly explained, “I stole a few phones previously, you…”

Qiu Tong could tell that he was just pretending to be an idiot. She bent over to pick up the foldable knife from the ground and used her fingers to push the sharp blade against the gangster’s neck artery. “I just need to gently press down here and you will die without even feeling any pain. If you dare to lie again, I’ll let you die.”

“You wanted to kidnap my son. Who was behind this? What do you want?”

Qiu Tong exerted more pressure and a bloody cut appeared on the gangster’s neck. He was so frightened that his legs trembled and he shrank back.

Ye Luan?! This thought flashed across the gangster’s mind, but he quickly dismissed it. “Impossible!”

“His family is all dead. You can’t be his mother!”

The gangster had some information about Ye Luan’s situation. Qiu Tong felt that there was more to this than meets the eye. She aimed the foldable knife at the gangster’s thigh and drove it in.

The blade dug into his muscles as he howled.

Qiu Tong pulled out her knife and placed it on the gangster’s neck. “Do you want to die or live?”

The gangster did not dare to look at Qiu Tong. He was so frightened that he peed his pants and cried miserably. “Please let me go. I really don’t know! I’m just doing it for money. They asked me to capture a boy. After I capture him alive, I’ll wait for them to contact me.”

“Ye Luan is too smart. I followed him for a few days but didn’t succeed. I was even injured by a few children today.”

The gangster swallowed hard. “I’m telling the truth! If you don’t believe me, you can look at my phone records!”

He unlocked his phone with his fingerprint and took the initiative to point out the relevant records. Qiu Tong quickly scanned the information. “You can find him?”

“It has always been a one-way communication. He’ll call when he needs to reach me. He will let the phone ring thrice and hang up, after which I’ll call him back.”

“He changes his phone number every time. When I try to call the earlier numbers, it’s always disconnected.”

The gangster had his suspicions about this before, but the other party’s payment was too generous. He accepted it greedily.

Qiu Tong realized that the other party was very vigilant and careful. She removed the folding knife and the gangster heaved a sigh of relief.

“When was the last time you contacted him?”

The gangster recalled. “Around five last night. He told me I had to get the child here as soon as possible.”

“He’ll probably contact me today.”

The gangster’s phone rang.

The call ended after three rings. Qiu Tong looked at the encrypted caller ID and pressed the redial button.

She pressed the knife against the gangster’s artery again. “You know what to say!”

The call went through and there was silence on the other end.

The gangster cleared his throat, his voice trembling as he tried his best to control it. “That little brat is really too powerful. I almost caught him, but a few fellows who were slightly younger than him appeared out of nowhere and saved him..”
