Chapter 79: Two Places At Once

Valtalere?

Their bodies froze at the same time at the mention of the name. Park Noah quickly skimmed the vicinity, pretending to fix her hat. On the other side of the corridor, which was a little quiet, someone was running with a delighted face — a middle-aged gentleman in a fedora. Soon, an answer came from right behind their backs.

“Oh, Mr. Calton. I see you there.”

Kyle Leonard hastily blocked Park Noah’s head as she was about to turn around. “I’ll look. Please stay inside.”

He took the key from his pocket and opened the door of the room. However, Park Noah grabbed his arm, which tried to push her inside, and hauled him straight towards her. Then, she thrust her hand on her robe’s pocket, pulled out a bead, and dropped it on the floor. As soon as it touched the ground with a faint sound, she slammed the door shut.

“Miss Noah?”

“You’re in danger of being caught even if you go. The magistrate recognized me at a glance earlier.”

Park Noah removed her hat and took another one of the beads out of her cape. It was exactly the same shape as the one she dropped outside.

She rolled the beads with her fingers a couple of times and then placed them down on the table in the middle of the room. Soon, a blurry blue ray of light shone out of the bead and a large screen came in sight.

Likewise, Kyle Leonard, who had put down his hat and glasses, rushed to the table. “Is it the invention of Eleonora?”

“Yes, it’s Largo’s eyeball.”

“What is it? Kyle Leonard asked back, sporting a look of astonishment.

Park Noah patted on the beads nervously and answered, “The manual says Largo’s eyeball. I’ve never used it before, so I’m not sure it’ll work. Oh, there we go.”

The view from another bead outside their room emerged on the screen. Perhaps because the beads fell on the floor, the screen showed a worm’s eye-view. The shoes and trousers of the two men occupied almost both sides of the screen. Unfortunately, their faces couldn’t be seen.

Frowning, Kyle Leonard took a recorder out and began recording the screen.

“I thought you were in Cezanne, but how are you here? Are you going up to the capital?”

“Yes, that’s what happened.”

The man on the left was Mr. Calton, and the man on the right seemed to be Mr. Valtalere. Lenia, the heroine, was the only daughter of a Count, hence the title “Mr. Valtalere” didn’t seem to mean a brother or so.

It was highly likely that the person addressed was Earl Valtalere, Lenia’s father. And the assumption became true as the next words left his lips.

“My daughter is suddenly begging me to go to the capital…”

Park Noah held her breath. His daughter, Lenia, had asked him to go to the capital, which meant the person they were looking for was on the same ship as theirs.

However, Kyle Leonard said he had already sent a summon to investigate Lenia Valtalere in the capital. When she looked back at him in shock, Kyle Leonard had his finger on his lips. The recorder was still recording everything  that flashed on the screen. He then mouthed, “The evidence must not contain a voice.”

Park Noah eventually turned her eyes back to the screen, her forehead creasing. The men’s conversation continued.

“I heard that there was a lot of difficulty in managing the farmland because it didn’t rain this year. Last year, he never stopped by the mansion in the capital city.”

“It’s raining, it’s heaven’s will, so what can it be? Fortunately, my daughter managed to avoid the deficit thanks to the good distribution network she went to and from the Imperial City. Well, I’m ashamed to tell Mr. Thayer, the owner of the big farm.”

“What can I say? Lenia said she had the skills of a businessman. I can’t help but admire the fact that she alone made connections to the Imperial City.”

On the screen, where there were only two men’s shoes visible, someone’s dress suddenly  appeared. Park Noah watched the screen intently, holding her breath still.

“Oh, you’re here just in time. It’s been a long time.”

For a moment, the purple dress covered the screen. Park Noah wondered if she would see a pointed sandal on the screen, but the screen shook violently. It flipped and turned with a thud.

Park Noah’s lips parted at the sudden situation. There was no more sound of conversation between the two men and the woman who appeared late. The screen only stopped after a long wave. The scene which the Largo’s eyeball flashed was merely a wall in a dim corner.

“…Sir, this.” Park Noah immediately realized what had happened, becoming speechless.
