"Check if it's still alive." Codename 11 shouted.

A brave guy jumped out of the military vehicle and carefully walked towards the beast. He aimed his rifle at the beast, prepared to take action if it was still alive.

Everyone stared solemnly while aiming their weapons. They were ready to shoot the creature once it made a move.

40 meters…

30 meters…

As the brave soldier went closer, everyone felt inexplicably nervous for him.

20 meters…

10 meters…

The beast still showed no signs of movement.

1 meter…

The brave soldier poked the beast using his gun, but it didn't show any signs of movement. "I think it's dead." He shouted.

Codename 11 gave the team a signal to retrieve the corpse. The beast was quite heavy and the modified military vehicle could barely carry it.

"We'll gather a few more before we go back to the base." Codename 11 shouted to the team.

"Yes, sir!"

The cleanup team moved deeper into the forest.

Meanwhile, in the settlement in San Vicente.

Gregorio's army had already escorted half of the people out. It took them three days because didn't bring many ships with them.

"This is taking longer than I expected. Request for more ships from the base." Gregorio uttered with furrowed eyebrows. There were still a lot of cities and towns that they had to visit. They needed to increase their speed or more people would die, waiting for them.

"Yes, sir!" Wolf nodded his head before he left the tent.

Gregorio rubbed his eyes. He hasn't had a good sleep in the last few days. They had to be on constant alert in case the zombies arrived.

While he was having some rest, he heard a series of urgent footsteps outside. He immediately sat up straight and adjusted his posture.

"Sir, I have something important to report!"

"Come in." Gregorio uttered.

A soldier entered the tent. Upon entering, he gave Gregorio a standard military salute. "Sir!"

Gregorio nodded his head. "What is it?" He asked.

The soldier handed a brown envelope to him and said. "Sir, our scouts discovered some weird movements in Wilfredo's group."

Gregorio grabbed the envelope and opened it to see the contents. It contained photographs of Wilfredo and his subordinates. Looking at the photos, they seemed to be gathering in secret.

Gregorio frowned as he put down the envelope and the photos. "Continue monitoring their movements and if they do something that would endanger the military and the people, kill them immediately!" He uttered in a cold voice.

The soldier inhaled a deep breath of cold air. They have been fighting zombies since the outbreak, but they have never fought against fellow humans. However, he also understood the situation so he nodded his head. "I understand." He hesitated for a moment before he asked. "What if they try to escape?"

Gregorio's eyes were still cold as he replied. "If they go out of the settlement, I allow you guys to use force. It would be better if you kill them. Just don't alert the civilians. Do you understand?"

Hearing this, the soldier no longer asked anything. "Yes, sir!"

"Good! You may leave." Gregorio waved him off. He had to get some rest. He might have been injected with the Body Enhancing Serum, but he still needed to sleep to energize his body.

He informed the soldiers outside the tent that he would get some rest.

"What did he say?" Wolf asked the soldier who recently reported Wilfredo's movements to Gregorio.

"The Colonel wants us to continue monitoring Wilfredo's group. We are allowed to use force if they show signs of hostility and danger. Sir, I think the Colonel wants us to kill that guy." The soldier replied.

Hearing this, Wolf revealed a vicious glint. "Knowing the Colonel, I can already guess his intentions. Go and inform the scouts about this. I will gather a small force to handle them in case they fight back."

"Understood."

Wolf didn't leave right away. He called the headquarters and requested for more ships to be sent to their location.

"We can't send more battleships, but we can send some carrier ships." This was the reply he got from the headquarters. They weren't at war so he agreed without hesitation. The carrier ships could carry more people so it was better than sending a battleship to them.

After dealing with this matter, Wolf summoned his personal unit. It was a team composed of twenty elite soldiers. Four of them were even injected with the Body Enhancing Serum.

Looking at his men, he was inwardly pleased. After fighting with the zombies in the last few days, their skills improved tremendously. Although they could still not compete with Sigurd's main unit, they were almost there.

Wolf informed them about Wilfredo's actions and also Colonel Gregorio's decision.

Wilfredo had already gathered about 70% of his subordinates, but his face didn't look good.

"Where are the others?" He asked in a low voice. He noticed that not everyone was there. He had invested a lot of money and resources in his personal guards, but who would have thought that some of them would actually betray him at the last minute?

"Boss…" His subordinates didn't know how to answer when they saw his ugly expression.

Wilfredo took a deep breath to calm his rage. "It doesn't matter. Moving with a larger group will attract the attention of the military. It's better that they are not here."

No one said anything. They knew that he was just trying to console himself.

"We should make a move now while the military is still transporting the civilians. It would be too late for us once they discover that we are meeting secretly." Wilfredo uttered in a stern voice.

Everyone looked solemn upon hearing his words. The people here are those who did most of Wilfredo's dirty work. They were afraid that the army would punish them once their crimes came to light so they decided to leave the settlement with their boss.

"Pack up your stuff. Bring some food and supplies. We have to leave now." Wilfredo stood up and grabbed the shotgun on his table. He had taken this weapon from a local police station. In fact, most of their weapons came from there. The police in their town were all infected with the virus so they took the vaccine weapons in the police station.

"Yes, boss!" Everyone started moving. They had already brought their things when they came here.

When night arrived, Wilfredo led his group to leave the settlement using a secret route behind his house. He had prepared this before to escape if something happened to the settlement. He never thought that he would be using it to escape the military.

Wilfredo was nervous the whole time, but he realized that the army didn't seem to notice their disappearance. This made him feel relieved.

"Boss, it looks like we have overestimated the army. They didn't even notice us sneaking out of the settlement." One of his lackeys said.

Wilfredo frowned upon hearing this. "Don't relax your guard. We still haven't gone far. Keep your eyes peeled!"

The group managed to escape further from the settlement and everyone loosened their guards.

Wilfredo was the only one who felt anxious the further they got from the settlement. It was a bit weird that the army didn't notice them sneaking out. He soon realized that things seemed strange.

Ratatatatatata!

Multiple gunshots suddenly echoed in all directions, scaring him out of his wits. He quickly dove to the ground while covering his head.

From his peripheral vision, he saw some of his subordinates being shot. Most of them died on the spot, while a few others fell into the ground while groaning in pain.

"Dammit! Damn that bastard! He never planned to bring us back!" Wilfredo cursed angrily. He rolled behind a tree to take cover. He then aimed with his shotgun while observing the surroundings. It was too dark and he could barely see anything. If not for the light coming from their flashlights, he wouldn't be able to see a thing.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

Two bullets grazed his cheeks and he barely managed to evade them. "Ouch!" If he didn't pull back his head, he would've been a goner. He anxiously held his shotgun as he watched his subordinates dying one by one.

Ratatatattatatatata!

Ratattatatatatatata!

They couldn't even fight back. It was a one-sided massacre!

Throughout the whole encounter, Wilfredo still hasn't seen a shadow of their enemies. Only the quick muzzle flashes were visible in his eyes.

"Dammit! I can't die here!" Wilfredo crawled his way into another spot and he miraculously survived the crossfire.

Ratatattatatatata!

Ratatatattatatata!

"Hey, buddy. Do you enjoy acting like a worm?" A taunting voice suddenly drifted into his ears. Wilfredo instinctively aimed his shotgun and took a wild shot.

BANG!

His shoulder almost shattered in from the recoil of the gun. He wasn't holding it properly so his arms and shoulder felt numbed.

Suddenly, he saw a shadow on the side, but before he could even do something, he felt a sharp pain at the back of his head. "Sleep well." That was the last thing he heard before he left this earth.
