Humanity's Greatest Mecha Warrior System
1219 1219 Pernicious
The Great Enemy forces were appearing everywhere on the planet within minutes of the portals opening, and Max could sense the annoyance of the Myceloid God at this change in the situation. This was not part of its plan, and if things kept going this way, it would have to cancel its challenges of the human champions.
The Myceloid God knew that it would annoy its fellow Gods with this game, but it hadn't expected them to take direct action to mess with its fun. There was only one evolving human champion on the planet, and they had already sent three of their Greater Beings after it to no avail.
Now they were messing up the whole plan that it had devised just for the sake of spiting him, the Myceloid God was certain.
They should know their place.
Bringing in more of its own people would only make things more chaotic and overcrowded, since the Cathedral Ships were flooding the world with their soldiers, but that was a short-term annoyance. The other Gods were fickle and weak, in its opinion, not up for a serious fight, and by the time that its champions had finished with this group the other Gods were likely to have shifted their attention again and stopped sending reinforcements.
It had known the others for millions of years, and they had never changed much. It was their greatest weakness, in the mind of the evolution and battle - minded God of the Myceloids. They were incredibly set in their ways, too attached to a single aspect of reality. Originally, it had been a God of Destruction, but once it found a species that liked to smash things as much as it did, the Myceloid God began to change and appreciate greatness in a more subtle way.
Sure, you could just crush things, and that was fun. But where was the finesse? The sense of enjoyment? Casual destruction was only the most basic form of Destruction, it had learned. Now, perhaps, it was time to teach that lesson to its kinfolk.
Once they had learned that there could be such great joy in the fashionable destruction of sentient beings, they would begin to understand that mindless adherence to their aspects made them incredibly boring companions.
With the Human champions alongside its own, there should definitely be enough of a sample size for them to learn it if they were capable.
Max sensed a bit of the Myceloid God's thoughts, and immediately understood the situation.
"Nico, call back your challenge team. We are going to crush the Great Enemy first. The Myceloid God wants to teach the other Gods how to have fun." Max instructed.
"How to have fun? I can think of one or two ways to do that in this world." Nico laughed.
"I thought that you might say that. No need to hold back, other than the output limitations that were put on this place to keep the battles interesting." He added.
Max already knew that letting Nico loose was about to be both the greatest and worst idea that he had ever had, but they needed to do something about the number of warriors arriving on this planet, and if the Myceloids didn't think that they were going to play along with the plan, it could turn into one giant mess in a hurry.
The real question was what was he supposed to do while all of this was going on? He could just run rampant through the enemy forces, killing indiscriminately, but they already had Nico for that, and with the Gamers on the drones, there was enough indiscriminate fighting going on.
So, instead of just smashing, Max decided that he would do something fun too. It wouldn't be a long trip to the portals, and he had the perfect idea.
The enemy might be appearing all over the place on the planet, but they would have to stage near the portal on the other side in order to use the portals or teleportation devices. So if he just started randomly firing nukes through until he hit something or forced something to come fight him, it would be perfect.
Not even the Myceloid God could argue with logic like that. Slapping someone until they agreed to have a proper fight was a favourite tactic for it as well.
The area around the portals was also serving as their new base, so challenging it directly would not only benefit the war effort, it would greatly amuse and impress the Myceloids.
Max began to make his way toward the portals, flying low over the ground so that he wouldn't be as easy to pick up on radar, and flying prone to the ground so he would look like a fast-
moving tank or a group of speeders on most sensors. The longer that he could confuse the enemy, the less time that they would have to adapt to the imminent arrival of a Titan Class Mecha at their base, and the storm of firepower that Max was going to bring with him.
He didn't stay alone for long, though. Sylvie recruited a large group of crab drones as well as a combined Shin and Valkia fast attack squad to come with him to clear the base.
It wasn't a large force, more suited to harassing and distracting the enemy, but Max was the main fighting force anyhow, and the Myceloids had always valued Champions above numbers, even if the species was perfectly developed to attack in massive waves.
Or perhaps that was why they valued Champions so much. Waves of attackers were innate to them, they could do it mindlessly just by spreading spores. But Champions were special and unique, not part of the faceless horde.
They were something for the members of the most prolific species of warriors in existence to admire and strive to become. That sounded more like the truth of the situation to Max. Nobody wanted to be generic trooper number 6814. But becoming the Champion of Some battle or another was always going to be cool.
