“What do you mean?” Yan Su did not quite understand him, or rather, she did not dare to read any deeper into his words.

Chen Chen fixed his gaze on her. “Have you ever had suicidal thoughts at night? There was once when he picked up a knife in the middle of the night and slit his wrist. Good thing I was keeping a close watch on him and he was saved.”

Yan Su gasped.

“The whole thing was caught on camera by the paparazzi and we spent a huge amount of money to keep it under wraps.” Chen Chen laughed bitterly. “We usually only see the glamorous side of Shi Xiang, but deep inside, he’s just like a piece of glass — it shatters when touched. Others might not understand him, but don’t you know him better? For the past half-year, I arranged for him to see a psychologist, but he just can’t get over the wall in his heart. Jin Youlan is not someone you should mess around with.”

Upon mentioning that woman, a shiver ran down Yan Su’s spine. “How is she now?”

“She is, of course, having a wonderful time in Korea,” Chen Chen said sarcastically. “When Shi Xiang was with her, he was introduced to some of her businesses in China. But after that, Jin Youlan quickly moved them out of China. The little evidence that we managed to get wasn’t enough to convict her. Besides, she is not from China. I’m afraid that he might… finish her off himself. If death does not scare a person, there is nothing he is afraid of.”

Yan Su’s eyes widened in astonishment. After all, Shi Xiang was her first love and her high school friend — she would hate to see him go that far.

“If it’s possible, I hope you can persuade him personally,” Chen Chen said sincerely.

Yan Su bit down on her lips; her eyebrows furrowed indecisively. With some hesitation, she said, “if I meet him next time, I will persuade him. But to ask him out privately… I’m sorry, I don’t want Mo Liuxi to misunderstand…”

“Alright then, I won’t force it on you. Please just tell Mo Liuxi to stop provoking him.” Chen Chen sighed as he left.

It took a while before Yan Su could regain her composure and head back to her room.

Her mind wandered off as she walked towards her room. Upon opening the door with her room card, she noticed that the bed was empty and Mo Liuxi was gone.

After a quick look around the room, she went for her phone; she heard a knock on the door.

Opening the door, Mo Liuxi stood outside, looking grave.

“Why weren’t you sleeping in?” Yan Su yanked him in, afraid of any paparazzi lurking in the corridor. “Where did you go?”

“I went to Ji Nuanyi’s place to look for you since you were gone for so long. But she said you left a long time ago.” Mo Liuxi threw her a glance.

“I went to buy breakfast.” Yan Su pointed to the spread on the table. “They’re freshly made. I was waiting in line for quite some time to get these. Have you washed up? Come on and eat then. There are so many types of food in Guangzhou so I bought a lot for breakfast.”

Mo Liuxi sat on the chair expressionlessly, popping a shrimp dumpling into his mouth. The shrimp was fresh and delicious. He glanced up, noticing that Yan Su had also picked up a dumpling, but she looked preoccupied with other things on her mind.

His mood turned sour. Picking the dumpling from her chopsticks, he stuffed it into his mouth.

“What are you doing?” Yan Su stared at him, speechless.

“I should be the one asking you,” Mo Liuxi frowned deeply. “Did you only go to the restaurant to buy breakfast for me?”

Yan Su might be dense, but at that moment, she could sense that something was amiss. “When I was on my way back, I met Shi Xiang’s manager and had a few words with him.”

Seeing that she did not hide the meeting from him, Mo Liuxi eased up. “The both of you seemed to be chatting for a long time. Since when were you so familiar with that man?”
