Great Doctor Ling Ran

Chapter 744 - Amid All That

Panda Novel

At Mato Grosso, the small private jet that Ling Ran and his entourage boarded landed on a farm.

The runway of the farm was simple and wide. While the plane was landing, they could see the vast fields and herds of cows that looked like stars in the sky from afar. In Asia, this was something that could only be seen in Central Asia. Huo Qubing [1] once crossed the vast desert, arriving at and conquering the vast meadow. Ever since then, the word “vast” was only used to describe the Gobi Desert in China.

As for the New World, they only cared about there being a balance between the ratio of forests and meadows.

Tian Qi was wearing a pair of riding boots, a T-shirt and a military green windbreaker. She rushed down the private jet and took a deep breath. She then turned and smiled at Ling Ran in embarrassment. “If I didn’t rush down the plane, I’ll probably get airsick.”

Ling Ran looked at her face and applied the visual inspection parts of the physical examination. Once he determined her condition, he said, “I’ll help you.”

As he spoke, Ling Ran reached out for Tian Qi’s forehead and pressed her head a few times.

It only took a few seconds for Tian Qi to feel refreshed.

Tian Qi could not help but blush a little right after that. She said in a soft voice, “Thank you.”

Ling Ran merely nodded.

Tian Qi glanced at Ling Ran, and the sight of his face put her in a good mood. She started introducing the place to Ling Ran in a soft voice, “The farm we’re at right now belongs to my uncle, so it’s relatively small. It should be smaller than 50,000 acres. My uncle named his farm ‘Zheng’s Farm’ as his name is Tian Guozheng. Doesn’t it sound informal?”

As Ling Ran breathed in the foreign air and stepped on the soil beneath his feet, he could not help but smile. “This is my first time outside China.”

“Eh, it’s your first time? How do you feel about it, then?” For some reason, Tian Qi was curious.

Ling Ran took a deep breath and said, “I’m now sure that there are indeed countries on the other side of the earth, and that those countries are inhabited. This has made me believe in science more.”

Tian Qi was puzzled. “What?”

Ling Ran smiled. “It’s just like how even though doctors have access to MRI scans, they believe in the things they see after cutting open the patients more.”

No matter how defined these methods of indirect examination were, it did not change the fact that they were not as clear-cut as direct examinations. This was how the concept of a gold standard [2] came about in the field of medicine.

To Ling Ran, traveling to a foreign country and seeing with his own eyes that there was life on the other side of earth meant that he had achieved the gold standard in his personal scientific experiment.

“Let’s wait for Doctor Yu and Doctor Ma at the gazebo over there. We can go and see my uncle when they’re here. My uncle has been really bothered by his knee pain. He’s not even willing to step out of the door anymore.” Tian Qi decided to stop racking her brains over what Ling Ran just said.

Ling Ran nodded. They then boarded an open-air jeep to a group of Chinese-style buildings at the edge of the small in-farm airport.

A traditional Chinese gazebo graced the area in front of the rows of buildings, and a tea table, as well as a few benches, were neatly placed in the gazebo. A young woman in traditional Chinese clothes stood in the gazebo and made tea gracefully.

The steam from the pot rose in the air, giving the visitors an illusion that they were in ancient China.

Soon, the second private jet landed.

Ma Yanlin and Yu Yuan rushed out of the private jet in a haste. Even though they took a private jet over, they were tired and could not wait to set their feet on solid ground.

Compared to the doctors, the chefs who were sent to Yun Hua and had just returned to Mato Grosso seemed tremendously relaxed. By the looks of it, they probably traveled back and forth between China and Mato Grosso all the time. As soon as they arrived at the gazebo, without waiting for anyone to bark orders at them, they headed to three separate directions. They then brought over a bunch of equipment from the courtyard behind the gazebo. Soon, they had set up a barbeque grill beside the gazebo.

This was when someone walked out of one of the rectangular buildings. He was holding a long cut of marbled beef.

“This is a cut of edged beef. I’ve cut off the outer layer as the meat inside tastes better. It’s more tender, too.” One of the chefs explained things to Ling Ran and his entourage.

“Isn’t this quite a waste?” Ma Yanlin clicked his tongue a few times. He plopped down beside Ling Ran and gobbled down a few mouthfuls of water. “By the way, Chef Zhu, aren’t you going to ask us if we’re in the mood for beef? After flying for a day and a night, my whole body is super heaty.”

Chef Zhu, who had been cooking in Yun Hua Hospital for a few days, knew Ma Yanlin quite well by now. He placed a few slices of beef that he had just cut on the grill and asked, “Are you in the mood for beef?”

Ma Yanlin thought about it for a few seconds. “Yes.”

Chef Zhu rolled his eyes. “I’ll make sure that you’ll be the last in line for the beef.”

Ma Yanlin immediately refuted. “You do know that we have to make the patients’ family members sign the informed consent form even though we’re well aware that the patients will be operated on, don’t you?”

Chef Zhu said, “I’ll let you sign the informed consent forms before I put you on the grill and barbeque you.”

Chef Zhu switched on the air blower, and the charcoal fire started raging. The slices of barbeque meat were bright red.

The atmosphere was lively, which was what usually happened when a group of humans gathered. The vast meadow no longer seemed empty and dreary.

The sky was pretty much similar to the sky in China, with rolling white clouds.

Another airplane suddenly appeared amid the sunlight.

“Why is there another plane?” Ma Yanlin who was staring at the slices of meat happened to notice that the plane had gone lower.

“It seems that it’s about to land at this airport?” Tian Qi skillfully stood on the bench. She placed a palm before her forehead to cover the sunlight so that she could take a better look.

As Tian Qi spoke, the plane had already landed slowly and aimed at the runway.

“There’s more people coming over?” Ma Yanlin asked the young woman who was making tea.

“I don’t know either.” The young woman smiled and said, “You can ask the person in charge about it.”

No one bothered to do this. A few minutes later, they saw a group of people heading toward them in two separate jeeps. Three of them were wearing large white coats, and a stethoscope was hanging from each of their necks.

“Did your uncle invite other doctors too?” Yu Yuan hopped down from the bench and looked at Tian Qi.

“I don’t know.” Tian Qi whipped out her phone and said to Ling Ran, “I have only heard that he did consult a local doctor…”

“It doesn’t matter.” Ling Ran’s reply was very straightforward.

Before he departed for Mato Grosso, he had already carried out more than one hundred surgeries. Aside from this, he also guided around thirty surgeries. He did not really care if he got to operate on Tian Guozheng.

*Creak…*

The two jeeps stopped in front of the gazebo.

“Tian Qi… Miss Tian, what a coincidence, you’re here too.” A young man with a slender but muscular figure who was wearing a tight hunting suit hopped down from the front passenger seat of the first jeep.

All the people on the two jeeps got off the vehicles when they saw that the young man had hopped off.

“Miss Tian, you see, I heard that Uncle Guo Zheng was injured, so I quickly invited a few doctors over to take a look at him. You know, my father isn’t healthy either, and I have to call doctors over to our home and stuff all the time…” The young man in the hunting suit looked worked up, and his voice was loud too. He walked over quickly and leaned against one of the pillars of the gazebo as he stood.

Tian Qi looked calm as she nodded and said, “My uncle got injured two years ago.”

“He only wanted conservative treatment before this, right? I heard that he had been feeling unwell lately and want to receive surgery, so I quickly invited some doctors over.” The young man in a hunting suit smiled as he said, “It’s destiny that we happened to meet today. You must give me a chance to buy you a meal or something.”

Tian Qi glanced at him and shook her head. “I don’t like people with round shoulders.”

The young man in a hunting suit froze. He tried very hard to stop himself from turning and looking at his own shoulders. He asked hesitantly, “Round… round shoulders?”

“Among other things,” Tian Qi answered.

The young man in a hunting suit who had just flown for over twenty hours had a little bit of a breakdown. “Miss Tian, in all honesty, don’t you think that I’m considered handsome among men? Even celebrities nowadays can’t be that handsome—”

“I don’t want the meat to be too cooked.” Ling Ran rose and took a stainless steel plate from a chef.

There was sunshine.

There were rolling white clouds in the sky.

There was a slight breeze.

And Ling Ran stood amid all that.
