God of Crime: Strongest Mafia Boss

338 CH 323: ARE YOU THE ONE WHO DID IT? (1)

While Adam was preparing himself to enter the Library of Akasha once again, Shuri could be seen sitting inside her office and working on the merger as she always would around this time for the past few days or so.

After all, the merger wasn't something that could be taken care of in a few days and she had to make sure that everything was going as perfectly as possible and that there were no chances of there being a mistake left anywhere.

She had a team of more than twenty lawyers working on the different companies that were about to be taken under their control but she still had to oversee all the deals by herself to make sure everything went smoothly.

After all, the most foolish thing a lawyer could do was to give his or her full trust to another lawyer. That was something that you learned on the first day of entering law school.

'Ugh. I wonder if Adam would be free after this.'

Since Adam had already decided to drop out of University, she wondered what he was going to do now outside of focusing on his life as a criminal.

'Should I warn Cecilia about this?'

She sighed, feeling a headache growing inside her the more she thought about his matter. Cecilia was not a dumb woman and she knew that behind all the jokes, fun, and the naive plus clumsy exterior she regularly showed to the world, there was something dark and deep hidden within her that she didn't let anyone, except for maybe Adam, learn about.

"Miss Shuri, there is an urgent call for you."

Shuri frowned deeply when she saw her secretary enter the office room with hasty steps.

She hated being disturbed when she was working, more so when it was something as important as the merger that she was working on right now, but she already knew that her secretary was well aware of that.

So, there should've been a good reason why she barged into the room and disturbed her. She could also see the hastiness in her gait so she decided to see what was going on.

"Transfer the call."

The secretary nodded her head and immediately walked out of the office, leaving Shuri alone.

Leaning against the back of her luxurious office chair, she closed her eyes and breathed out as the call transferred to her landline and she took it to see who was calling her right now.

"Sniff~ ...Sister…"

The first thing that registered in her ears was the sound of someone sobbing incessantly and the grief that was contained in their voice. It didn't take long for her to recognize the owner of the voice that was calling her at the moment and disturbing her work.

"What do you want?"

Her voice became cold and unfeeling. There was not much she wished to say to her sister or anyone in her family for that matter.

They could all go to hell for all she cared.

"I… I am sorry… I didn't know…"

Shuri frowned deeply at her words filled with sob and grief. Just what the hell was she on that? This was a pretty random thing to say even for her ever-pampered little sister.

She wanted to tell her to calm the fuck down and explain what was going on and not waste her time longer than she should but she decided to be considerate since she could faintly understand that something big was going on here. Going by her experience as a lawyer, she knew that being harsh to someone in this kind of state would only slow down everything further and she did not wish for that to happen.

In the end, once she was sure that her sister had calmed herself down somewhat, she spoke again and this time her sister responded with some shocking words in between her intermittent sobs.

"Williams is dead."

'Oh…'

Shuri was utterly astonished by those words. In fact, she had gotten so astonished that she became lost for words for some time. She had just been deciding on how she would take care of that man when she realized that he was the cause for the hit on her but she didn't expect that the problem would be taken care of like this before she could even do anything.

"He… He killed himself. I am sorry. I am so sorry…"

Her sister went into another fit of tears and sobbing. Shuri had to massage her brows to not yell at her to shut the fuck up. So much information could have been shared and understood if her sister had been more calm and coherent at this moment.

But this was why she was the beloved daughter. She was fragile, kind, and prone to tears or acting cute. That was how her genetic makeup was, there was nothing she could do about it.

She was the perfect weak-willed kind of woman that attracted the desire to protect from a certain criterion of males.

She simply wanted to hang up at the moment. She was sure that she would be able to get more information by moving her own agents or asking Yui than simply waiting for her to explain.

"He… Before killing himself he sent me a letter… He should have sent one to you as well."

She was wracked with more sobs as she explained the words with a grief-induced tone and Shuri had to tilt her head in confusion once she heard them. She had received no mail…

'Ah. Indeed…'

She had long since blocked the man and transferred all his messages to the spam section.

"Very well…I am sorry for your loss."

She was in no way sorry for the loss that her pamper sister had to go through.

"What do you plan to do now? What about your kids?"

This was perhaps the only thing she was concerned about. After all, the children were innocent in all this. They should not need to bear the sins of their parents.

"I… I will take care of everything."

It seemed like the mention of her kids helped her to take hold of herself.

"I cannot stay like this."

Her voice slowly became more steady though she was still able to hear the tears leaking through and the occasional sniffles.

"I am sorry for disturbing you. I am sorry for being so stupid and not understanding what was truly happening all this while."

Her voice became lower and lower and she finally hung up.

Now alone in her office room…

Shuri looked at her phone in utter silence and contemplation. This was perhaps the first true conversation she had with her sister in years.

'I feel so shitty.'

Sighing, she placed the phone back and focused on her computer, switching to her emails. Entering the spam section, she could see the messages from the one known as Shithead or Williams for short.

There were many messages mainly about asking for money or proposing surefire deals that would bring a shit ton of money to her.

Finally, her eyes landed on the most recent messages and the more she read, the more her expression became pensive.

This was indeed a suicide letter. Doubled with a confession of absolutely all the crimes he had ever committed and damn was the list way fucking long.

There were many crimes that he had done in the name of his wife and the most recent one was obviously asking for Shuri's death.

Shuri read all of this with an indifferent mind.

Her eyes flickered as she internalized and studied the crimes and words rather than simply accepting his death for what it was.

Pushing the intercom she immediately gave orders, "My brother-in-law died. I want all the information related to this in one hour."

Something was fishy.

Extremely fishy even.

Though this looked like a suicide she knew that he had only asked for her death quite recently.

She also studied the profile of Williams many times.

A narcissistic, arrogant and greedy man who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

This kind of man would never become suicidal in just a few days and would certainly not share all his crime because of some feeling of guilt.

This whole charade was illogical and too out of character. Most likely… Shuri stopped herself.

'Why am I even bothering?'

What did it matter to her whether or not his death was a suicide or not and so what if it wasn't a suicide? It wasn't like she was going to avenge him.

With this, she was in danger no more and this was why she had a hunch.

Either she was one of the luckiest women in the world or someone had actively tried to help her.

Everything else was far too convenient otherwise.

Taking her second phone, she decided to call her new partner and mayhaps a friend.

"Hello, Yui? I think we need to talk a little."

"Hi! So how may I help you?"

"Are you the one who ordered the death of my brother-in-law?"

It was a very direct question.

(AN: Our dear Shuri always like throwing a straight ball at her target. Welp anyway. Next chapter dealing with this library. I don't know how long this library arc is. I am still working on when he should enter the Silver library and what kind of power up I should give them there that wouldn't totally break the flow. Anyway don't hesitate to send gifts or simply comment. The numbers of comments on new chapters diminished quite a bit.)
