From Sidekick to Bigshot

Jian Yichen’s messy room had been cleaned up by Jian Yiling.

Other than the soup, there was also a delicious hot meal on the coffee table.

The meal had been recently prepared.

As Jian Yiling was unable to move her cousin, Jian Yichen was still lying on the floor.

However, there was a thin blanket covering his body.

A smile appeared on Jian Yichen’s face as he looked at Jian Yiling. His gaze was incredibly soft and gentle.

“Did I say anything strange last night?” Jian Yichen asked Jian Yiling.

“Yes.”

“Ugh…” Jian Yichen started. He was a little embarrassed before he quickly said: “Don’t take it to heart. I’m like that when I drink a bit too much.”

He didn’t mention anything too strange last night right?

His brotherly image… Was still there right?

As Grandma Jian was sick, the Wen family came over to visit her. The Wen family lived in Beijing.

The Wen family had a long history related to literature and art.

Wen Nuan had three older brothers. One of them opened a museum whilst another involved himself with antique businesses. Finally, the last one was a calligrapher.

On the surface level, the businesses of the two brothers did not appear to be doing incredibly well. However, in reality, their businesses were incredibly popular.

The ancestors of the Wen family had passed down a lot of exotic treasures. These treasures were worth a lot of money.

In addition to this, most people who were in this line of business were not ordinary individuals.

Thus, the Wen family was more highly regarded than the Jian family in Beijing.

In fact, the Jian family meant nothing in Beijing.

Grandma Jian was visited by the wife of Wen Nuan’s eldest brother. His wife was called Cai Qinyue. In addition, Cai Qinyue’s daughter, Wen Ruo also accompanied her.

Cai Qinyue and Wen Ruo’s appearance wasn’t considered outstanding. This was especially true when compared to the genetics of the Jian family.

However, their temperament and manners were on another level.

As individuals from a family of literary reputation, their actions were elegant and refined.

They didn’t do anything flashy and their actions could stand careful appreciation.

Wen Ruo was twenty years old. She was two years older than Jian Yiling.

Currently, she was studying at Beijing Normal University. Wen Ruo was in her third year of university.

After exchanging pleasantries with Grandma Jian, Wen Nuan guided her sister-in-law and her niece to the exit.

Wen Ruo opened her mouth and asked about Jian Yiling:

“Auntie, Grandma Jian mentioned that Jian Yiling is also studying in Beijing. Which university is she studying at?”

In the past, Jian Yiling’s grades were terrible. This was something that everyone knew about.

Furthermore, Wen Nuan never mentioned her daughter’s studies whenever she returned to the Wen family. And thus, the Wen family concluded that Wen Nuan was ashamed to talk about her daughter as Jian Yiling was not doing well in her studies.

And thus, the Wen family did not ask such questions to Wen Nuan.

However, the Wen family did not know the truth. If possible, Wen Nuan would rather her daughter be the same as before. It was okay if she didn’t like to study and work. It was fine to pamper and spoil her. However, she just didn’t want her daughter to be so well-behaved and serious.

Due to these reasons, Wen Nuan did not mention her daughter’s studies to the Wen family.

“She’s studying at Beijing University,” Wen Nuan replied. As she was questioned regarding this matter, she told them the truth.

Beijing University was the best university in the capital.

Although Beijing Normal University was already regarded as one of the better universities, the university still faltered when compared to Beijing University.

“Beijing University?” Wen Ruo repeated in disbelief.

Her arrogant and conceited cousin got into Beijing University?

“Auntie, why haven’t you mentioned this before?”

“It’s nothing much,” Wen Nuan replied. She didn’t like to mention this matter.

If her daughter’s liveliness and happiness were to be exchanged for her love of learning, that was a trade that Wen Nuan did not want to take.

She didn’t want her daughter to be an “excellent child.” Instead, she wanted her cute Yiling back.
