Fatal Shot
Chapter 403 - Skill Enhancement - Martial Arts
It was able to fuse with skills and personal Force Compatibility. Once this Chip was plugged into the personal terminal, Feng Luo could see a series of coefficients out of a 100% that appeared behind the skills he had now.
These coefficients in descending order were:
[Sniper Profession]
Pseudo Environment (70%), Quick Sneak (65%), Rapid Shooting (48%), Vehicle Driving Proficiency (42%), Danger Detection (3%), Ambush (0%), Maximum Shooting (0%).
[Light Armored Warrior Profession]
Battle Will (95%), Enhanced Martial Arts (88%), …, Raging Charge (72%), …, Throw (61%)…
According to the attribute introduction by this Chip, the skills advanced to Force Skills had “Compatibility” with players, affecting the power of the skills after their enhancement.
What disappointed Feng Luo was that among the seven Sniper skills, there were actually only two skills, Quick Sneak and Pseudo Environment, that had a Compatibility of more than 50% with his Force attribute, all the other skills had very low Compatibility.
The two skills, the Level 35 Ambush and the Level 40 Maximum Shooting, had a Compatibility of 0%. Even if he were to use the Chip to change these two skills into Force Skills, there would be no enhancement achieved in the end.
What he anticipated had come true, the Force awoken by the evolution Talent really did not have a high Compatibility with the Sniper profession skills.
Instead, it was matching with his Light Armored Warrior second profession, especially in this Light Armored Warrior Level 40 alternative ultimate move of “Battle Will,” which the Compatibility had reached 95%. Based on the numerical data, it undoubtedly seemed the wisest to choose “Battle Will,” a Level 40 ultimate skill. After enhancement, the skill effects earned should be really awesome.
Still, Feng Luo was doubtful.
The Sniper profession skills could only be temporarily excluded, as their Compatibility was not very high, he could only choose from among the Light Armored Warrior skills.
The “Battle Will” skill was precisely the reason why he was doubtful. Even though it had powerful effects, its usage limit was higher. In addition to having to Channel it in advance, it was also because this skill had serious negative side-effects. It would be impossible for its rate of usage to be very high.
In contrast, the Enhanced Martial Arts and Raging Charge skills that had higher rates of usage would seem to have a higher value after they were enhanced. However, the problem was that their Compatibility was much lower than Battle Will.
Feng Luo pondered once again for more than a minute and finally tapped his finger on the Enhanced Martial Arts skill with 88% Compatibility; deciding to enhance this skill.
He was still interested in using weapons for close-combat. Regardless of whether it was killing the rebel Scout that time at the Town of Exiles or in the “killing game” on Death Hunter Island, or when infiltrating the close combat within the Roaring Dragon Mercenary Group’s team the night before, it had all given him a feeling that was different from killing people using a sniper rifle.
The kind of heated blood-rush when killing people in close-combat was different from the cold and still composure right before long-range sniping. He loved to use the sniper rifle, but similarly did not discriminate against close-combat stabbing.
[Master Martial Arts]
Greatly increased close-combat ability, close-range attacks carry a certain extent of Force damage special effect, reduces damage from close-combat attacks to a certain extent (continuous usage of 10 Force points per second last).
After Feng Luo had made his choice, the Chip in the terminal instantly vanished, while on the skills panel, a new skill appeared.
“Master Martial Arts? Increases close-combat ability, this should be saying that there would be a certain extent of enhancement in strength, agility and other effects in close-combat, similar to the raising of strength effect of the Heavy Armored Warrior Shield Bash. There is no overall rise in damage reduction over 100%, I”ll probably only able to test it out in combat. But carrying “Force damage special effect,” what does this mean?”
From the skill description given by the system, others were more understandable. Feng Luo did not really understand “Force damage special effect.”
Just as Feng Luo was about to look up the detailed explanation of this attribute, a warning signal suddenly sounded from the cockpit.
“High amount of Energy response detected, high amount of Energy response detected.”
Below the rear of the Apache military helicopter flying in the air at close to 1000 meters from the ground, a mutant bird with black feathers and a wingspan of over an entire 20 meters had suddenly appeared. It had an eagle-like head and four grey claws. The mutant eagle creature was flapping its two gigantic wings, rapidly closing in on the Apache above it.
In flight, a string of faint green-colored Energy Wind Blades flew out from it, slicing towards the Apache like dense continuously-fired cannons.
In front of the military helicopter a huge two to three-meter tall faint green tornado was taking shape.
“Thud, thud, ching…”
The dense Energy Wind Blades hit the Apache’s alloy heavy armored body, leaving scratches of different depths; if it was not for the thickness of the Apache’s armor, it would have likely already been cut through.
It was fortunate that the attack had come from below; if it came from above it would cause the rotating wings to be sliced by the sharp Energy Wind Blades. There would definitely be the danger of them breaking whilst spinning at high-speed, resulting in the Apache crashing.
“Oh no, an Energy-type monster.”
In the cockpit, seeing the image that had appeared on the virtual screen, Feng Luo’s heart lurched.
For small-scale combats in War, the Federation and the rebellion mobilized more land troops and would not engage air forces. A big reason for it was because in the skies in the game, the danger was actually larger than on land.
In real life, even a typical small bird crashing into airplanes was likely to cause a serious air crash, let alone in War.
As a world with all sorts of mutant creatures, although the monsters in the skies of War were not as high in population and number of types as those in the ocean and on land, they were still a great threat.
The sky’s field of view was wide, it would take any flying mode of transportation to not rise to a sufficient height and it would very easily be targeted by the sky creatures nearby.
The Level 55 Barbaric King Giant Bird with a body size of over 50 meters, with wings that could break a fighter jet body with a slap, the Level 50 Thunderbird which could create thunderstorm regions of up to 100 meters. Even the fist-sized Level 40 Diamond Bird which upon collision would be able to drill through rare alloy in a five-centimeter radius like a bullet.
These were still only Normal monsters and Elite monsters, if a Commander, quasi-boss or even a boss was met, then even if one was on land, it would likely be able to strike down a taking-off or landing winged combat vehicle.
If such a situation was met, escape would not be possible even by firing bullets. If shot from a flying vehicle, the bullets would be completely unprotected targets and food to those large-sized monsters.
Large-sized civilian aircrafts boarded by players needed to be stronger. Since these aircrafts are a typical length of one or two hundred meters, they are also considered huge objects in the sky, with very thick and heavy armor. In addition, the flying routes would all be pre-arranged with detection facilities to prevent clashing with powerful Boss-Grade creatures throughout the journey, making the danger comparatively less.
It wasn’t like there was no danger, as in War, many creatures possessed detection-shielding abilities. Resulting in up to a hundred incidents of transport ships being attacked by monsters each day, and there would also be a plane crash occurrence almost every day.
Just like how the game company would not compensate losses due to the game plot, the deaths due to these “air accidents” similarly would not be compensated for by the game company.
However, it was fortunate that even though the game company in real life would not compensate, the game’s Federal Government would, under the assumption that one had bought insurance in advance.
In this instance, Feng Luo did not buy insurance before boarding this Apache. If this giant eagle was too powerful and destroyed the fighter jet, it would just be his bad luck. More importantly, it would also affect the Agent Mission he was about to do.
Just then, the screen had displayed informative data on the giant eagle-like creature which was already catching up to the Apache.
“Mutant Giant Wind Eagle, species code: Level 45 · Independent-type Commander.”
A Level 45 Commander monster. Luckily, though its attack felt overwhelming, its Grade and Level were not considered high.
For a creature with such a standard set of attributes, it was naturally harder to face it with the weapons on a normal small-sized civilian aircraft. With a heavy-duty Energy military helicopter belonging to the Federal army, it should not be unable to take down even a Commander monster of above Level 40.
“Di!”
The missiles hanging down from the Apache’s two short wings at its sides had automatically spun, turning towards the read and below.
“Rattlesnake-IV-type Energy air missiles, target lock-on complete.”
A mechanic AI signalling voice sounded from inside the cabin. “Fire!”
Two small-sized air missiles with faint blue tails drew two long and thin snake-like trajectories across the sky as they were shot towards the Level 45 Giant Mutant Eagle Commander chasing the military helicopter about 1000 meters above the ground.
“Crr!”
As if detecting the danger hidden in the two flying objects above its head, from the surface of the Mutant Eagle Commander’s body emerged a faint green layer of Energy Forcefield. With its gigantic flapping wings, the trajectory in its flight shifted a distance towards a side.
“Boom!”
One of the missiles accurately hit its Energy Forcefield, and the faint green-colored Wind Energy Forcefield immediately shattered from the explosion and vanished. But the other Rattlesnake missile had brushed past its side due to its dodging just in time.
The Rattlesnake missiles in the game were clearly made much more intelligent than the missiles with the same name on Earth.
The missile that had already flown more than 100 meters automatically changed its course in midair, its faint blue tail drawing a wide circle. After just a second, it turned back and hit the tail region of the Giant Eagle Commander, which had already been pretty injured by the explosion of the previous missile and was already falling downward.
“Boom!”
Behind it, a bluish-white Energy field of an entire 20 meters appeared in the air and completely engulfed the Giant Eagle’s body.
“Target defeated.”
The Apache continued flying in the course of its destination – the entire battle process was actually only slightly more than 10 seconds.
