Biohuman

876 The Law of Motion

Evan felt his blood oozing out of him. He huffed as he held his shield up. Books and shelves were torn asunder as the Head Maid gritted their teeth. The shadow's form flickered showing a humanoid shape underneath the fog. Purple eyes glowed behind the fog as it held the black dagger in its right hand.

"Such a shame…" The shadow shook their head. "I thought you wanted to prove yourself? You only amount to this? A waste of time." Evan rushed forward, swinging his shield straight for the shadow's head. The shadow disappeared once again and reappeared, piercing the dagger into Evan's shoulder. Evan howled as he wrapped the shadow humanoid and pinning him against the wall.

"What're you trying to do?" Evan gritted his teeth. The shadow chuckled as it pulled the blade out of Evan's back. He began to go in for a lethal hit on Evan's head when a rainbow energy shot out of him, blasting him out the library and into the backyard.

"Master Evan." Head Maid Teresa spoke. Evan turned and pulled his last potion out. "I'll go get help!"

"Get to safety." Evan ordered.

"But, Master!"

"Get to safety, Head Maid Teresa!" Evan shouted. "I don't care what happens to me, but you have a family waiting for you! Don't you want to see them?" Head Maid Teresa froze. The young master had always thought about his servants. She couldn't help but remember all the times he had done things for them. "What was the promise we made to each other, hm?"

Evan wiped his mouth as he waited for her answer. She looked at him with such admiration for her young master. She couldn't help but think about how timid he used to be.

"I just don't get it, Young Master." Head Maid Teresa clicked her tongue. She bandaged the Young Master on the head while another maid worked on his bruises. "Why didn't you do anything when those boys beat you?" Young Evan kept his eyes down. He didn't dare look at the Head Maid nor the other maid patching him up.

"I'm here. What's wrong?" One of the butlers asked. His eyes focused on the Young Master, realizing he was hurt. "Oh lord." He scurried over, taking the spot of the other maid. He took the ointment and started to apply it, pushing some of his energy into the ointment. "May the ointment heal you to be big and strong, Young Master."

"Evan, you can fight back if anyone messes with you, dear. Your mother and father have even said so." The Head Maid sighed.

"Father will only be disappointed I resorted to that. Mother will ask me why I'm such a brute. There's no point in even trying to fight back… What will that solve?" Young Evan whispered. Head Maid stopped what she was doing and knelt down and grabbed her Young Master's hands.

"You are young yet you understand what it means for your family." Head Maid brushed Evan's hair. "You are smart. You are kind. Always thinking about your family. I wish you could learn from your friends."

"I only have one." Evan moved his hands away. He squeezed through the Head Maid and the butler. "He's too busy to care about me…"

"I'm sure that's not true, Young Master. Have you asked him to play with you?" Head Maid asked. "I'm sure Ritsuka wants to play with you, dear. You two always seem like you're having fun." Evan shrugged and continued on his way. She let out a sigh, clicking her tongue as if she was trying to conjure a solution.

"The Young Master is too kind." The butler stood up. "He thinks about others before himself and is timid. Do you think he will grow out of this phase?"

"I pray so." The Head Maid sighed. "Let's be patient like always. Thank you for coming right away Johannes. In times like this, the Young Master needs to not be alone. Call the Yamada Residence and see if we can set up a play date. Maybe they can help the Young Master."

Head Maid Teresa found the Young Master in the library. He engrossed himself in books. It was one of the few ways Evan found solace in his very much lonely life. Teresa readied a smile and traced her fingers along the spines of the books.

"What're you reading today, Young Master?" Teresa asked.

Young Evan didn't look up as he answered her. "I'm reading a book about the laws of kinetic energy."

"Again?" Teresa raised her eyes. Evan was a smart kid. He knew his father had the ability to control kinetic energy, changing the laws as he pleased.

"Newton's first law is motion. That's where Kinetic energy comes into play. If I can understand this now, I'll understand my powers easier when the time comes!" Evan smiled. Teresa nodded and took a seat next to her Young Master.

"Promise me one thing?"

"What's that, Mrs. Teresa?" Evan's excited eyes glimmered. She smiled and patted his head.

"Promise me you'll protect everyone you care, no matter what." Teresa smiled. Evan nodded.

"Promise!" He stuck his pinky finger out and watched Teresa wrap hers around his.

Memories of the Young Master came and went as the Head Maid snapped out of her daze. Evan was looking at him, waiting for her answer.

"You are more than capable of handling the situation now." The Head Maid began to recite the promise. "You promised me you will fight back as best as you can. That promise may have taken years to get from you, but you promised."

"And so I will… Get everyone to safety. My friends are here, too. You should know them, right?"

"I know, Master Evan." The Head Maid nodded. She lifted her hand and conjured chains. "Take my protection with you. You may need it to bind those shadows down." Evan reached  for the chains and watched them snake around his arms, binding themselves to his chest. "Blessings."

Evan knew what the Head Maid meant. She was binding a holy-attribute to him. It would help against the darkness that stood waiting for him.

"Go." Evan turned his attention onto the shadow. "This Deimon is mine." Evan jumped down, slowing the kinetic energy around him. He landed softly and centered his eyes onto the shadow. "You're a Deimon, right?" He pulled his shield off his arm and pressed it onto his chest.

"If you know, why do you ask?" The shadow Deimon asked.

"So, that means I can try this on you, then." The armor extended, wrapping his arms and legs as a rainbow see-through energy wrapped around his head like a helmet.

'This is what all of my training is for.' Evan thought. 'The perfect offense and defense.'

"Doesn't matter if you look like a lit up rainbow. In the end, your death will be the end." The shadow Deimon said. The two rushed at each other, brandishing their weapons. Evan raised his arm and conjured a sword and shield. "Darkness Descends!" The shadow Deimon  tore into the fabric of reality, conjuring shadows. Shadows rushed outwards, pouncing on Evan as his rainbow light disappeared.

Wraiths screamed as the shadow Deimon smiled. "That was it? I was really hoping for something… better than this."

"A body at rest stays at rest…" Evan grunted. "But a body in motion… will stay in motion with the same speed… and go in the same direction unless the body is… acted upon by an external force…" The wraiths hissed as they all disintegrated. Evan raised his sword up into the sky as he held the shield close to his heart. "I spent all this time learning Newton's First Law of Motion, yet never really understood it until recently." Evan pointed the sword at the Deimon.

"What's a nerd going to do? Explain motion to me?" The Deimon smirked. "I'd rather rip that tongue out and not hear any of it!" The Deimon rushed forward, raising the black dagger upwards. "Piercing Nightmare!" The Deimon turned to smoke, moving faster than any Biohuman eye could see. Evan smirked and lowered his sword and raised his shield.

"It means you lost a fight as soon as you met me. Kineticism: Stopping Flow!" The energy in Evan's shield exploded outwards, quickly freezing every single thing in motion. The wraiths flying around froze in place. The Deimon unblurred, stopping in mid-rush as the kinetic energy sparked and pulled away. Evan raised the sword and pointed it straight at the heart of the Deimon. "And if you have to act upon that, I don't need to attack you. You're just acting upon which the law was set… to continue your motion."

The kinetic energy dispelled, picking back up. Wraiths screamed as they moved and the shadow Deimon blurred.

"There's one flaw to your plan." The shadow Deimon said. They stopped short of Evan's sword and smiled. "I can see everything that happens and react accordingly."

"Who said you were dying to the sword?" Evan asked. He swung the sword and watched as Deimon jumped backwards. "I've always liked creating obstacles for people, so I'll stick with that!" The sun immediately grew dark overhead, drawing the Deimons attention to Evan's actual plan. A large rainbow wall hovered overhead as Evan's grin grew. "Strength? MY biggest strength is my defense, so… just die to my defense."

Evan swung his sword downwards and watched the wall fly downwards. The Deimon cursed, trying to blur. Evan clicked his tongue and shook his head.

'He froze me in place, again?' The Deimon thought. 'This Biohuman is just a Tank! What can a tank do—"

BOOSH!

Smoke rose as Evan pushed the kinetic energy back out in the area.

"A tank's job falls into three simple things: protecting your teammates, slowing the enemy down and taking as much damage as you can for your team to be successful." Evan recited. "But, there's a fourth thing they don't really teach you in school. It's learned on the field. Protection often means breaking these rules and taking matters into your own hands."

The holy chains rattled as Evan pulled on them. The chains flew off of him and he threw it on the wall. Teresa's chains wrapped around the walls, creating an intricate magical spell.

"If that didn't kill you, Mrs. Teresa's holy spell will definitely hold you."
