1102 Alterac Valley
In the first version of the Alterac Valley, there was no such thing as reinforcements.
In that version, the deciding factor for victory was not tactics, but the number of people. Because there was no concept of reinforcements, the entire battlefield of Mount Olympus was likely to fight from day to night. At that time, there was no concept of cross-server battlefields. For those servers with unbalanced factions, the victory was decided when one side did not have enough people in the middle of the night.
In the later versions, Alterac Valley underwent a series of changes, mainly in two aspects:
The first was that the various complex mechanisms had been comprehensively weakened, including the removal of most neutral NPCs, the weakening of the guards 'attributes, and the disappearance of many powerful summonable NPCs.
The second was to add the concept of reinforcements, so that the duration of each battle was controlled.
On the whole, these changes were inclined to speed up the pace of the battlefield. After all, a battle could last from day to night without any results, so it was hard to say how good the game experience was.
Furthermore, the honor points awarded on the battlefield mainly came from key points such as occupying the stronghold and winning. The Alliance and horde were in an endless stalemate on the war Plains. Neither side could get many honor points, which was a serious waste of time.
In the initial design, ao Shan's design idea was a large-scale, interactive PVE game. PVP only took up a part of it. The players had to complete various tasks and make a key impact on the battlefield through many key NPCs.
For example, after the players rescued the Air Force commander and handed over all kinds of items, they would hear the Air Force roar and fly into the enemy's territory to start bombing.
Or players could capture their own animals in the stable and kill the enemy animals (sheep for the Alliance and wolves for the Horde). Then, they could summon their own cavalry to charge.
In addition, they could also summon Special Forces for support, upgrade the Army's defense, and even summon the ultimate unit to command the battlefield.
After handing over enough blood or storm crystals, the Druids would come to the war Plains. The players would help them with the summoning ritual to summon the king of the forest, yphus, or the King of the Snow, rockhola.
In other words, the Battle of Mount Olympus in that version was not a simple battle between Alliance and horde players. They had to rely on various means to increase the combat power of their allies in order to win the war.
Of course, it sounded good, but in fact, as the versions changed, some problems appeared.
This was because it took a lot of time to complete these quests. For example, the players had to split up to catch wolves and sheep. After collecting various items, they had to run back to hand them over. This created a contradiction:
If the NPCs were weaker, the opposing players would immediately gather to destroy your guard tower, and you would still be busy collecting items before you were pierced through. If the NPCs were strong, both sides would risk their lives to collect resources, and the battlefield would become a war between the NPCs. Moreover, the duration of the battle would be doubled, which would go against the goal of speeding up the pace of the battle.
As a result, these complex mechanisms were basically ignored by everyone. The Alliance and horde were more inclined to a fast-paced offensive and defensive battle, and every player was particularly important. Dividing people to collect these things was equivalent to slowing down the pace.
As such, Chen Mo's version of the Alterac Valley still retained the NPC mechanics, but added the concept of reinforcements. After all, it would be meaningless if the battle lasted for an entire night. For example, the Alliance was clearly at a disadvantage and then they defended the bridge to the death. In the end, neither side won. It sounded quite exciting, but it wasn't the case when they started fighting.
Chen Zhao saw that the Alliance only had around 100 reinforcements left, while the Horde only had around 400. This was too pathetic.
It wasn't that the Alliance was weak. There were many reasons why the Horde had the advantage in the early stages of the battle. Because of the tribe's appearance, most players who chose the tribe at the beginning were pure men who liked to kill people. Those who liked the appearance and scenery would usually not choose the tribe. That was why the tribe was more United at the beginning.
Of course, in the later versions, the Alliance gained the upper hand, and the conquered Island became the Alliance Island.
It was clear that this battle was a battle of great disparity in strength. The Alliance had lost many towers in the beginning, so they could only retreat to the bridge. The commander obviously didn't know much about the battlefield. Fortunately, he was still doing his job well and kept spamming the screen, hoping that everyone could quickly return to the bridge to defend.
The bridge was very easy to defend because the Alliance's terrain was loose on the outside but tight on the inside. The defense line of the first and second towers could be said to be full of holes, but the bridge was definitely easy to defend and hard to attack. In any case, with all sorts of blizzards, fire rain, and long-range skills being thrown at the bridge, even a fly would have a hard time flying over, let alone a horde.
The two sides were in a stalemate. Although the Alliance managed to defend the bridge, because of the reinforcement system, the Horde could trade three heads for one head.
