Evil always comes from courage

In Henry Jane's account of the encounters on the whaling ship Catelyn, one of the cooks named Stuart Taylor seemed to have told something about narwhals.

She still remembered some of the people on the Caitlin, but after being frightened like this, she felt as if the memories in her head had been shaken, and she didn't know if she remembered them correctly.
