The history of Mercedes-Benz AMG begins in 1967. Two Germans, Aufrecht and Melcher, started their modification business in the small town of Grossaspach. AMG is derived from the initials of the three names. Mr. Aufrecht once worked as an engine tester at Daimler-Benz Car Factory and is familiar with Mercedes-Benz's power system. In 1971, at the Belgian SPA 24-hour endurance race, AMG took second place with a 300SEL6.9AMG racing car, and the company's reputation began. In 1978, the flagship sports car code-named R107 was developed by AMG as a chariot for the European Touring Car Series. Although the results did not reach the highest podium, it was still at the leading level. In 1980, the 450SLC won its first victory at the Nürburgring, becoming a monument in the history of AMG.
