Michael Jordan was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the 1984 NBA Draft with the No. 3 in the first round and played for the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards during his career, winning the NBA Rookie of the Year in his rookie season. In the 1986-87 season, Jordan averaged 37.1 points per game and won the NBA scoring title for the first time. In the 1991-93 season, Jordan won the regular season MVP and the Finals MVP (FMVP) three times in a row, and led the Chicago Bulls to three NBA championships. On October 6, 1993, he announced his retirement due to the murder of his father, and announced his comeback two years later. In 1996, he was selected as one of the NBA's top 50 superstars. In the 1996-98 season, Jordan won the 10th NBA scoring title and the 5th regular season MVP of his career, and led the Bulls to 3 NBA championships (6 times) and was elected MVP of the 6th Finals. On January 13, 1999, he announced his retirement after the failure of collective bargaining and returned with the Washington Wizards two years later. Michael Jordan has been named to the NBA All-Star Team every year of his career (14 times) and has been named NBA All-Star MVP three times, All-NBA First Team 10 times, All-NBA Second Team in 1985, NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1988, All-NBA First Team of the Year nine times, NBA steal champion three times, NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest twice, and Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1992.

On April 16, 2003, Michael Jordan officially announced his retirement after the last game of his career at home against the 76ers. He is considered the greatest basketball player in history, and his No. 23 jersey was retired by the Bulls and the Heat.
